MULTAN, Sep 08 (APP):Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday reaffirmed his party’s solidarity with flood-affected families, stressing that the government must impose an agriculture emergency and extend immediate financial support through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
Speaking at Gilani Dumrah Tent City in Multan, Bilawal said the PPP would not leave the people alone in their time of crisis. He emphasized that saving lives, providing relief, and ensuring long-term rehabilitation were the foremost priorities. “Rescue operations must continue, relief in the form of rations and shelters should be delivered without delay, and the rehabilitation of displaced families remains the biggest challenge,” he noted. The PPP Chairman said farmers were the hardest hit by the disaster, and called for concrete measures to support them. “Agriculture has been devastated, and without urgent help, farmers cannot recover. The government should waive electricity bills and farmers’ debts to ease their burden,” he suggested. Bilawal said he had requested Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to ensure that relief was delivered transparently through BISP, citing its proven track record during COVID-19. He urged both federal and provincial governments to replicate the post-flood housing schemes introduced in Sindh and extend similar initiatives in Punjab.
He further appealed to the international community, particularly the United Nations, for urgent assistance. Bilawal also called on political parties to set aside differences and work together in the service of the people. During the visit, he mingled with children at the camp and assured flood victims that PPP representatives would remain by their side. On this occasion, Governor Punjab Saleem Haider, MNAs Abdul Qadir Gillani, Ali Qasim Gillani, Senior Vice Present PPP South Punjab Khawaja Rizwan Alan , Malik Manzoor and others were also present.
