QUETTA, Jan 4 (APP):Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has said that Right to Self-Determination Day serves as a reminder to the international community that the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination is not a political slogan but a legally recognized international commitment enshrined in United Nations Security Council resolutions, which remains unfulfilled to this day.
In a special message, the Chief Minister recalled that on January 5, 1949, the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan adopted a resolution granting the people of Jammu and Kashmir the right to determine their future through a free, fair, and impartial plebiscite.
He said India’s continued illegal occupation and intransigence have consistently violated this international pledge.
Sarfraz Bugti added that the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have endured decades of repression, excessive use of force, and grave human rights violations. He added that following India’s unilateral and unconstitutional actions of August 5, 2019, efforts to alter the political, social, and demographic character of the territory have intensified, worsening hardships for the Kashmiri population.
He noted that Kashmiri leadership has been detained, freedom of expression curtailed, and political parties restricted, while arbitrary detention laws, raids, and search operations have become routine—actions he described as blatant violations of human dignity and international norms.
Despite sustained repression, Sarfraz Bugti said, the resolve and courage of the Kashmiri people remain unshaken. He emphasized that Pakistanis deeply admire their sacrifices and stand in solidarity with their struggle for self-determination.
The Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti stressed that a just and lasting resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute is essential for durable peace, regional stability, and prosperity in South Asia. He urged the international community to compel India to end human rights violations, reverse the illegal measures of August 5, 2019, repeal repressive laws, and implement UN resolutions granting Kashmiris their right to self-determination.
Sarfraz Bugti assured the people of Kashmir that Pakistan, including the people of Balochistan, will continue to extend full moral, political, and diplomatic support for their legitimate struggle at all international forums.
