MIRPUR, Nov 29 (APP): The Higher Education Department of the Azad Jammu & Kashmir government has announced the appointment of 341 lecturers on an ad hoc basis, following a rigorous selection process that drew applications from roughly 15,000 candidates. The appointments, approved by AJK Prime Minister Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore, aim to address a chronic shortage of teaching staff in public colleges across the region.
Secretary of the Higher Education Department, Muhammad Tayyeb Chaudhry, said, while exclusively talking o APP on Saturday, the selections were made on open merit after written examinations and interviews conducted in collaboration with the Public Service Commission of AJK. The induction includes 185 male and 156 female lecturers across 13 subjects, who will be posted to colleges throughout Azad Jammu & Kashmir where vacancies have remained unfilled for years.
Chaudhry explained that the appointments were made through a formal notification after a regular advertisement in the media, and that the process had been stalled for several years before the new prime minister’s intervention. He expressed confidence that the fresh faculty will improve teaching standards and encourage higher enrollment in state-run institutions of higher education.
The move is seen as a key step in fulfilling the government’s commitment to strengthening the education sector, a priority highlighted by Prime Minister Raja Faisal Mumtaz. By filling these long-standing vacancies, the administration hopes to uplift academic performance and provide better opportunities for students across AJK.
The appointments are expected to be formalized shortly, with the newly inducted lecturers set to begin their duties at the start of the upcoming academic term, bringing much-needed expertise to colleges that have struggled with staff shortages for years.
