LODHRAN, Jul 30 (APP): The Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal department distributed assistive devices among 84 special persons in the district. The ceremony took place at the District Council Hall Lodhran.
During the event, modern activity wheelchairs, white canes, walkers, mobile toilet chairs, and other assistive devices were handed over free of cost to eligible beneficiaries. This marks the second phase of the province-wide distribution programme aimed at ensuring equal participation and independence of persons with disabilities.
The event was attended by prominent political and social figure Umair Khan Baloch as the chief guest, while Deputy Commissioner Lodhran Dr Lubna Nazir graced the occasion as guest of honour.
Speaking at the event, Umair Khan Baloch stated, “The initiative by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif reflected a compassionate vision to empower individuals with disabilities and help them lead independent lives. These devices will enable recipients to perform daily tasks without relying on others.”
Dr Lubna Nazir reaffirmed the administration’s support, saying, “it was one of the flagship programmes of the Punjab government under the dynamic leadership of the Chief Minister. The goal was to support every differently-abled individual across the province and bring ease into their lives through practical tools and services.”
Divisional Director Social Welfare, Um-e- Farwa Hamdani, emphasized the scale of the initiative, revealing that over Rs 1 billion has been allocated to provide free assistive equipments, including wheelchairs, prosthetic limbs, and hearing aids across Punjab.
Deputy Director Social Welfare Lodhran, Nand Lal, said, “The purpose of the programme was to empower persons with disabilities (PWDs) and to ease their their lives.
