54,330 challans issued to traffic violators

RAWALPINDI, Oct 02 (APP):City Traffic Police (CTP) Rawalpindi issued 54, 330 challans to violators last month while 2,340 vehicles and motorcycles were impounded in different police stations due to incomplete documents.
According to a CTP spokesman, the motorcyclists were at the top of breaking the rules, some  24,680 motorcyclists were issued challans.
In addition, 12,281 vehicles were issued challan tickets while action was taken against 17,369 other commercial vehicles.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rawalpindi Taimoor Khan said that CTP trying its best to make Rawalpindi district road accident-free and making further improvements to ensure smooth traffic.
Khan dispelled the impression that traffic wardens were given a target of issuing challans and he said that challans are issued only for the correction of citizens so that they can protect themselves and other road users from road accidents.
The traffic education unit is engaged in providing awareness to the citizens on the highways about the traffic rules on a daily basis besides educating in schools and colleges.
He further said that while driving, the citizen should prove to be a good citizen by showing discipline on the roads.
