FAISALABAD, Jul 12 (APP): The Social Welfare Department distributed 51 wheelchairs among special persons in Faisalabad.
In this connection, a special ceremony was held in Municipal Corporation Hall where a large number of people including social and political figures were present.
Former parliamentarians including Muhammad Akram Ansari, Faqeer Hussain Dogar, and Mian Tahir Jameel graced the event as chief guests and said that the government is committed to empower differently-abled individuals in addition to integrating them respectfully into the mainstream of society.
They said that dignity and accessibility is right of special persons and the government is using all available resources to protect this right in letter and spirit.
They echoed the sentiments of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and said that special persons are not a burden but an integral part of our social fabric and they deserve equal opportunities and a life of respect.
Divisional Director of Social Welfare Khalida Rafiq said that 37 assistant controller wheelchairs and 14 active wheelchairs were distributed.
She said that Social Welfare Department would continue support of special persons. The provision of wheelchairs would also continue in the future as part of long-term rehabilitation and inclusion plan of the department, she added.
PMLN leaders including Raja Daniyal, Aftab Akbar Chaudhary and others were also present and they lauded efforts of the government in addressing the mobility challenges of the differently-abled community.
On this occasion, the wheelchair recipients also expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for her inclusive vision and timely assistance. They described the distribution of wheelchairs as a ray of hope in their journey toward a more dignified and independent life.
