47,000 cops deployed across Punjab for Eid security:IGP

LAHORE, Mar 21 (APP):Inspector General of Police(IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem on Saturday extended heartfelt greetings to citizens across the province,including Lahore,as well as to police officers and personnel on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, while announcing that over 47,000 officers and officials have been deployed to ensure security at more than 29,000 Eid congregations across Punjab.
In a statement,the IGP said that police were on high alert to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for citizens to perform their religious obligations during Eid.
He added that in the provincial capital alone,over 10,000 police officers and personnel had been deployed for security duties.
Abdul Kareem directed that,with the assistance of Special Branch,Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) and other security agencies,strict vigilance be maintained against terrorists and miscreants.
He instructed that personnel deployed at mosque,police check posts,pickets and other sensitive locations should remain highly alert. He further emphasized continuous monitoring of mosques,imambargahs and important sites through CCTV cameras.
The IGP also directed Dolphin Squad,Police Response Unit (PRU), and Elite teams to ensure effective patrolling around mosques,markets and key public places.
He reiterated that one-wheeling,aerial firing,hooliganism and kite flying would not be allowed under any circumstances.
The IGP further instructed regional police officers (RPOs), district police officers (DPOs), and senior officials to personally oversee Eid security arrangements.
He also directed deployment of additional personnel to maintain smooth traffic flow on major highways,parks,graveyards, and other recreational and public places.
