LAHORE, Nov 15 (APP): Punjab’s Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has congratulated the public, Parliament, coalition partners, and all political leaders on the approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment, describing it as a historic step that will further strengthen Pakistan’s democratic, constitutional, and defence structure.
In a statement issued on Friday, she said Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif led the drafting, consultation, and approval process of the amendment. She added that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, leaders of coalition parties, and all members of Parliament demonstrated unity by ensuring democratic decision-making through complete consensus.
Maryam Aurangzeb said that Parliament is the highest constitutional authority in the country, responsible for improving the Constitution and fortifying national institutions. “Rejecting the decisions of Parliament is a violation of the Constitution. Those who do not accept the authority of Parliament are neither democratic nor constitutionalists,” she asserted.
The senior minister said the 27th Amendment has strengthened state institutions, adding that opposing this amendment is tantamount to rejecting parliamentary supremacy. She criticised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, saying the party damaged national institutions—including the judiciary—for personal and political interests, creating division and instability. “No support for positive constitutional advancement can be expected from such elements,” she remarked.
Commenting on defence-related provisions, she said that the amendments regarding the Field Marshal and other military ranks will reinforce Pakistan’s security framework. The creation of the Chief of Defence Forces—a structure adopted by several modern militaries—will allow the armed forces to operate with improved coordination and effectiveness.
She added that the inclusion of the Field Marshal rank in the Constitution is a national recognition of the sacrifices and achievements of Pakistan’s armed forces, who secured historic victories in operations such as Bunyan-e-Marsus and Ma‘rakah-e-Haqq.
Maryam Aurangzeb said the passage of the amendment has made Pakistan’s constitutional, democratic, and defence foundations stronger than ever, calling it a milestone toward national stability, institutional harmony, and enhanced security.
