ISLAMABAD, Oct 22 (APP):The Islamabad district administration intensified efforts under the dengue control action plan, inspecting more than 44,000 sites and completing fogging at 2,418 locations in the past 24 hours, as 24 new dengue cases were reported across rural and urban areas.
The district administration on Wednesday issued a fresh dengue surveillance report highlighting ongoing activities to contain the virus across Islamabad. According to the report, field teams completed inspections at 44,843 sites in the past day as part of the anti-dengue campaign.
During inspections, dengue larvae were detected at 515 locations, while samples from three sites tested negative. To prevent the spread of the virus, administration teams carried out spraying at 934 houses in high-risk zones and fogging operations at 2,418 points across the city.
The report stated that 24 new dengue cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours. Of these, 20 cases were reported from rural areas, while four cases emerged from urban localities. The total number of dengue patients receiving treatment in city hospitals has now reached 64.
The administration said all measures are being taken under the dengue control action plan to identify breeding sites and ensure strict compliance with preventive guidelines. Officials have instructed field teams to maintain round-the-clock surveillance, especially in high-risk sectors and rural pockets where most cases are being reported.
Emphasizing community participation, the district administration urged residents to support ongoing efforts by keeping their surroundings clean and ensuring no standing water accumulates in homes or streets. “Without public cooperation, it is not possible to completely control dengue,” the administration said.
The report also noted that strict legal action would be taken against those violating the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for dengue prevention. Any negligence by housing societies, shop owners, or construction site managers will be met with immediate penalties, the administration warned.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon directed that all assistant commissioners and health teams intensify field monitoring and ensure timely larvicide spraying and fogging. Special attention is being given to areas where larvae were recently found.
Officials said the anti-dengue campaign will continue without interruption until the risk is significantly reduced. Teams have also been tasked with documenting daily progress to ensure transparency and accountability in operations.
The administration reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health and stressed that no lapse in duty during the campaign would be tolerated. “Any negligence during anti-dengue operations will result in strict action,” the report stated.
Public awareness activities are also being expanded to educate citizens about dengue prevention. Information campaigns through local mosques, schools, and community centers are underway to spread guidance on eliminating mosquito breeding grounds.
The administration urged residents to promptly report any signs of mosquito breeding or water stagnation in their localities to the helpline so that immediate fumigation can be arranged.
Furthermore, health experts have advised citizens to use mosquito repellents, cover water containers, and wear full-sleeve clothing to reduce exposure.
The Islamabad district administration reaffirmed that coordinated efforts between government departments, health authorities, and the community are essential to controlling the dengue outbreak effectively.
