RAWALPINDI, Jun 03 (APP): Two alleged car thieves were arrested in injured condition and their two accomplices escaped after a shootout with the personnel of Crime Control Department (CCD) and police in the area of Rawat on Tuesday.
According to the Rawalpindi Police spokesman, during the crossfire, a bullet hit Constable Mudassar Rasheed in the chest but he remained safe due to his bulletproof jacket.
The CCD and police personnel during snap checking signalled the accused riding in a car to stop, but they started firing on the police.
In the retaliatory fire by the policemen, two of them were injured and taken into custody while the other two made their escape good abandoning the car.
The car, which was reportedly stolen one and a half months ago from the area of Rawat, was seized by the police, besides recovering weapons from the arrested accused.
The injured accused were shifted to a hospital while a search was underway to nab their absconding accomplices.
Senior police officers reached the spot on receiving information about the incident.
Meanwhile, City Police Officer Syed Khalid Hamdani congratulated the SSP Crime Control Department, SP Saddar, CCD and Rawat police teams for bravely facing the accused risking their lives and recovery of the stolen car despite the fire.
