RAWALPINDI, Dec 31 (APP): The Emergency Services Department Punjab (the Rescue 1122) on Wednesday raised alarm after 140 people lost their lives in crime-related emergencies and dozens more died in drowning incidents in the Rawalpindi district during 2025.
According to the annual statistics released by the Rescue 1122 Rawalpindi, a total of 1,642 crime-related emergency calls were received during the year, affecting 1,721 individuals. Of these, 140 people were killed, 1,180 sustained serious injuries and 401 suffered minor injuries. The affected included 1,336 men and 385 women.
The data showed that these emergencies involved incidents such as physical altercations, firearm injuries, sharp-weapon attacks, recovery of abandoned newborns from roadsides and other serious cases. The Rescue 1122 said it provided a prompt response to all reported incidents.
Separately, the Service reported 41 drowning incidents in the district during 2025, affecting 43 individuals. Despite timely rescue operations at all locations, 33 people lost their lives, while 10 were rescued alive.
The Rescue 1122 said modern equipment, including boats, boat engines, sonar systems and other specialised rescue tools, was utilised during operations. Rescue divers retrieved the bodies of the victims and shifted them to relevant hospitals.
It urged citizens to adopt precautionary measures, avoid unnecessary risks near water bodies and immediately dial 1122 in case of any emergency.
The statistics highlight the need for stronger public safety measures, preventive action and increased social awareness across the district, the Rescue 1122 noted.
