111 couples wed in mass marriage ceremony

FAISALABAD, Feb 03 (APP): A mass marriage ceremony was arranged under Dhee-Rani programme at a local marque on Sheikhupura road on Tuesday.
Provincial Minister for Social Welfare Sohail Shaukat Butt was the special guest on the occasion.
Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar, MPA Azad Ali Tabassum, Jafar Hocha, and others participated in the ceremony.
As many as 111 couples, including eight from Christian community, tied a knot under the programme. The daughters of prisoners were also made part of the ‘Dhee-Rani’ programme. The newly wed couples were also given ‘Salami’ of Rs 200,000 through ATM cards by the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The minister hoped that the target of 5,000 girls’ marriages will be completed by the end of February.
He said that the Dhee-Rani programme is a practical example of social security to wed the daughters from deserving families in an honorable way.
He said that the aim of launching the Dhee-Rani programme was to share the financial burden of parents from less privileged segments.
