FAISALABAD, Dec 09 (APP): Economic and Trade Counsellor of Uzbekistan Mr Alisher Duschanov said that a branch of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) would become functional in Uzbekistan next year which would not only give a quantum jump to bilateral trade but also help Pakistani exporters to penetrate deep into the other landlocked Central Asian States.
Addressing the business community during a meeting in the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI), he said that top leadership of two countries had decided to enhance bilateral trade to the tune of $2bn while Uzbek President is scheduled to visit Pakistan on the special invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in February next year.
He further said that a delegation of Uzbek businessmen is also visiting Pakistan during next week to explore opportunities for bilateral trade through B2B meetings and direct interaction with their counterparts.
He said that the Uzbek Embassy was issuing visas to the businessmen and exporters on priority basis.
He requested Senior Vice President FCCI Naveed Akram Sheikh to arrange a special delegation for Uzbekistan so that Pakistani textile tycoons could discuss joint ventures with their counterparts.
He also floated a proposal to establish Pak-Uzbek Joint Business Forum.
Earlier, Naveed Akram Sheikh SVP FCCI highlighted the importance to enhance bilateral trade and said that the newly created Uzbek Light Agency is focusing on the development of textile and garments etc. and Faisalabad has expertise in these sectors.
He said that many Pakistani companies intend to launch joint ventures with Uzbekistan and we must make B2B meetings for their match making. He also assured full cooperation to Uzbek Investors to launch new projects in Faisalabad.
Waheed Khaliq Ramay, Shahid Majeed and Muhammad Ali took part in the question-answer session while Vice President FCCI Engr. Asim Munir offered a vote of thanks.
Later, Senior Vice President FCCI Naveed Akram Sheikh decorated Mr Alisher Duschanov with a special
collar pin.
He also presented a FCCI shield to the Economic & Trade Counsellor of Uzbekistan.
