MULTAN, Mar 09 (APP):Akhuwat Foundation Chairman Amjad Saqib has said that the foundation has provided interest-free loans to nearly four million families across Pakistan, amounting to about Rs 400 billion, with a recovery rate close to 100 percent.
He shared these views during his visit to the Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Monday, where he met Chamber President Mian Bakhtawar Tanveer Sheikh and other office-bearers.
Dr. Amjid Saqib said Akhuwat’s journey began with an amount of Rs10,000 and gradually evolved into one of the country’s largest welfare initiatives. He added that the organization is supporting deserving segments of society through interest-free loans, free education and various social welfare projects.
He said the philosophy of Akhuwat is to transform people from beneficiaries into contributors to society. He stated, Zakat is a right of the needy in the wealth of the affluent and should be spent on welfare initiatives for public benefit.
Speaking on the occasion, Chamber President Mian Bakhtawar Tanveer Sheikh praised the services of Akhuwat Foundation, saying Dr. Amjad Saqib and his team have set a remarkable example of humanitarian service. He said the foundation has played a significant role in helping millions of families achieve financial independence through interest-free lending. He expressed hope that the business community would actively support Akhuwat’s mission to expand its welfare initiatives.
Later, Mian Bakhtawar Tanveer Sheikh, along with his wife Sidra Bakhtawar, presented the Chamber’s crest to Dr. Amjad Saqib.
Among others present were Vice President Azhar Baloch, former presidents Mian Rashid Iqbal, Mian Fazal Elahi Sheikh, Khawaja Muhammad Hussain and Sheikh Muhammad Asim Saeed, Secretary General Muhammad Shafiq, Akhuwat Foundation Chief Coordinator Abu Bakar Siddiq, Chief Security Head Colonel (R) Monam, Ahmad Nawaz and Khizar Hayat.
