QUETTA, Mar 17 (APP):A high-level meeting chaired by Quetta Division Commissioner Shahzaib Khan Kakar reviewed sanitation and security arrangements in the provincial capital ahead of Eid ul-Fitr, with officials expressing concern over current cleanliness standards and calling for urgent improvements.

The session was attended by Deputy Commissioner Quetta Mehrullah Badini, Metropolitan Corporation Administrator Zahid Khan, Saafa Quetta Operational Manager Muhammad Kamran, DDS Metropolitan Corporation Muhammad Anwar Khan, Assistant Commissioner (Political) Muhammad Kaleemullah, and other senior officials.

Representatives of the Safa Quetta project briefed the commissioner on ongoing operations, including door-to-door waste collection, machinery availability, and workforce deployment.

Commissioner Kakar noted that the project had not yet delivered the expected results and stressed the need for improved planning and administrative efficiency.

He directed authorities to expand operational coverage and enhance service delivery mechanisms to ensure visible and sustainable improvements in urban cleanliness.

Officials reported that the project currently operates 36–38 garbage collection vehicles, with 20 more vehicles expected soon. Services are being expanded in Zone One areas such as Multani Mohalla and Kasi Qila, though challenges in fee recovery persist.

To address this, the commissioner instructed Safa Quetta to conduct a formal survey and introduce a structured monthly fee system.

He noted that citizens are generally willing to pay between Rs250–Rs500 per month, stressing that improved recovery mechanisms are essential for sustaining door-to-door waste collection.

Officials outlined special sanitation measures for Eid, including deployment of 15–20 workers at each major Eidgah and Imambargah for sweeping, cleaning, and lime application. Operations will begin two days before Eid.

Additional teams will manage increased waste accumulation on Chand Raat, when commercial areas remain active late into the night, through continuous cleaning operations.

In light of possible rainfall, the commissioner directed departments to prepare for water accumulation in areas such as Zarghoon Road, Brewery Road, Jinnah Road, and Airport Road. Safa Quetta assured that machinery and specialized vehicles would remain on standby for drainage and emergency response.

The commissioner instructed magistrates, district administration, and Safa Quetta teams to work jointly in the field and maintain continuous monitoring. Deputy Commissioner Badini was directed to ensure magistrates remain active on the ground.

Concluding the meeting, Commissioner Shahzaib Khan Kakar stressed that comprehensive security arrangements will also be put in place for Eid, with coordination between police authorities to deploy additional personnel and formulate a robust plan to ensure public safety during the festivities.
