PU organizes EMDR training workshop

LAHORE, Dec 15 (APP):Punjab University (PU) Center for Clinical Psychology (CCP), in collaboration with the Pakistan Association of Clinical Psychologists (PACP), organized a three-day professional training workshop on Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for practicing clinical psychologists, here on Monday.
The workshop was aimed at enhancing trauma-focused therapeutic skills among mental health professionals.
CCP Director Prof Dr Saima Dawood, EMDR practitioner from the United Kingdom Dr Ali Akbar Mansoor, clinical psychologists, faculty members and students attended the opening session.
PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali appreciated the organizers for arranging a specialized training programme for professional clinical psychologists, stating that psychology is an important discipline and psychologists are playing a positive and constructive role in addressing mental health challenges in society.
On the occasion, Dr Ali Akbar Mansoor, an experienced mental health professional, shared his extensive clinical expertise in trauma-focused interventions, with particular emphasis on the theoretical foundations, standardized protocols and practical applications of EMDR therapy. He highlighted the effectiveness of EMDR in treating trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related psychological conditions.
Prof Dr Saima Dawood said that the Centre for Clinical Psychology continues to collaborate with national and international experts to provide quality training opportunities for mental health professionals. She added that such initiatives aim to strengthen mental health services and promote trauma-informed care across Pakistan. She said the workshop was designed to enhance the professional competencies of clinical psychologists in working with individuals experiencing trauma and related psychological difficulties.
According to the organizers, the workshop featured interactive lectures, case discussions, live demonstrations and supervised practice sessions, enabling participants to gain hands-on exposure to EMDR techniques within an ethical and evidence-based framework.
