Lahore Police arrest 2,280 for begging

LAHORE, May 29 (APP):A total of 2,280 individuals including 2,168 men, 100 women, and 12 facilitators have been arrested for violating the Anti-Beggary Act, officials said on Thursday.
As many as 2,255 cases have been registered against them.
A police spokesperson said, Lahore Police are actively enforcing the Anti-Beggary Act across all divisions of the city. Among those arrested, 529 were apprehended in the City Division, 461 in Cantt Division, 231 in Civil Lines Division, 255 in Saddar Division, 226 in Iqbal Town Division, and 466 in Model Town Division.
Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana said that strict action against beggary is ongoing in the provincial capital. He added that implementation of the law is being ensured and that legal action is being taken against professional beggars, particularly those who force children into begging.
The CCPO also highlighted the use of modern technology in the crackdown on organized begging rackets. He said the police, in coordination with the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau and the Social Welfare Department, are working on the rehabilitation of underage beggars.
