Federal Ombudsman DI Khan office resolves 799 cases in 2023: Official

DI KHAN, Apr 29 (APP): The Federal Ombudsman’ Regional Office DI Khan has resolved 799 cases under Informal Resolution of Disputes (IRD) mechanism during 2023, which is highest figure of any regional office in the country.
It was stated by Senior Investigation Officer of Federal Ombudsman (Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat) Regional Office DI Khan Imran Khan while talking to APP here on Monday.
He informed that IRD, started in April 2022, was a mechanism under which the Ombudsman office plays a mediation role for resolving disputes.
He said the regional office DI Khan has disposed of about 4961 cases out of total 5391 registered complaints received during last year with 80 percent success ratio.
Similarly, he mentioned, the Complaints Collection Center, Wana which was established in December 2022 has disposed of 2067 cases out of total 2255 registered complaints with 95 percent success ratio during the same period.
Moreover, Imran Khan said, the office also conducts open courts in different areas in order to provide them inexpensive and speedy justice to the masses at their doorsteps.
He informed that next two open courts would be held in Paroa and Paharpur Tehsils of Dera Ismail Khan on May 6 and 9 respectively. He said the regional office also taking steps for creating awareness among the citizens about the federal ombudsman so that maximum people could get benefit of it.
He said the awareness seminars were being organized in different educational institutions including Gomal University besides displaying banners at offices of various federal government departments.
The regional office DI Khan was mandated to decide complaints received from DI Khan, Tank, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, South Waziristan (Upper & Lower), North Waziristan and Bhakkar districts.
The complaints filed against alleged irregularities and mismanagement of public sector departments are being addressed within 60 days and our findings are also being shared with the Federal Ombudsman Office, Islamabad

Government committed to promoting hockey: Hanif Abbasi

RAWALPINDI, Apr 29 (APP): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Leader, Hanif Abbasi on Monday said the national game hockey was top priority of the government, and efforts were being made to promote sport across the country.

In the previous PML-N government’s tenure, over 20 hockey stadiums were constructed and astro turfs were laid across the country. This year would see a significant boost in sports promotion, he added.

Abbasi expressed these views during a visit to Viqar-un-Nisa Post Graduate College, where he also announced the establishment of a hockey academy. He promised to provide all necessary facilities and coaching to the academy, with the help of Olympian Khawaja Junaid.

Abbasi said the PML-N government had always supported sports and athletes, and this initiative was also part of that commitment. Khawaja Junaid, who was also present on the occasion, lauded Abbasi’s efforts in constructing hockey grounds across the country and expressed his full support for the hockey academy.

The hockey academy will start functioning within the next 10 days. A cricket academy has already been established in Viqar-un-Nisa Post Graduate College in collaboration with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The college will provide the necessary infrastructure and players, while Khawaja Junaid’s hockey academy will provide the necessary equipment, including hockey sticks, balls, goalkeepers’ kits, and qualified coaches.

This initiative was a significant step towards promoting hockey and providing opportunities to young athletes to excel in the sport.

13 buildings sealed over illegal commercial use

FAISALABAD, Apr 29 (APP): The buildings department has sealed 13 buildings in Model Town on charge of illegal use for commercial purposes.
Chief Officer Municipal Corporation Faisalabad Zubair Watto said on Monday that the building owners were bound to get prior approval for commercial use of their building by paying commercialization fee but owners of 13 buildings in Model Town violated the law and used their buildings for commercial purposes illegally.
To which, premises of these buildings were sealed as the status of these buildings was residential in the record of buildings department. Now these buildings would be de-sealed when their owners would pay their fee with an amount of fine, he added

International seminar on interfaith harmony held at IUB

BAHAWALPUR, April 29 (APP): An international seminar on interfaith harmony was held here at Islamia University of Bahawalpur.
On this occasion, the guest speaker from Malaysia, Dr. Shaheer Akram Hassan, Director of the Center for Islamic Development Management Studies, had a special interactive session with the students and teachers of the university.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of the Department of World Religions and Interfaith Harmony Dr. Sajeela Kausar said that this is a great opportunity for the students of the university to hear the reasons for interfaith harmony in an Islamic country like Malaysia from a great thinker.
Dr. Shaheer Akram while presenting scenario of Malaysia in front of the audience regarding inter-faith harmony and said that main reason for inter-faith harmony in Malaysia is that they accept diversity in a pluralistic society.
People of different religions and cultures live together in Malaysia, Dr Akram added. Restaurants and festivals provide great opportunities to people for social interaction.
Malaysians spend most of their lives busy with work and new challenges, so they don’t have time to criticize others, he stated.
Prof. Dr. Rana Muhammad Shahzad, Chairman Department of Media Studies said that guest speaker from Malaysia, Dr. Shaheer Akram drew our attention to a very important topic which is an important need of our country.
Later, Dr. Zia ur Rahman, Head of the Department of Quranic Studies thanked all the guests and said that unity in diversity should be our commitment so that we can serve our dear country by creating a better society.

Director General Iran Culture center meets Makhdoom Saeed-u-Zaman Atif’

HYDERABAD, Apr 29 (APP): Director General Iran Culture Center Hyderabad Raza Parsa called on Chairman Sindhi Adabi Board Makhdoom Saeed-u- Zaman Atif here on Monday.
On this occasion Director General Iran Cultural Center presented a flower bucket and Pictorial Album of Iran to Makhdoom Saeed-u-Zaman Atif.
Both officers decided to publish Sindhi translation of the important books of Persian language and rare persian manuscripts available in the library of Sindhi Adabi Board.
Later , Makhdoom Saeed u Zaman ‘Atif’ presented Quran-e-Majeed translated  in Persian language by Hazrat Makhdoom Nooh,  ‘Gulshan Raaz ‘ Sindhi Translation of Persian Masnavi of Shaikh Mehmood Shabstri ,Kashaful-Ejaz by Mirza Qaleech Baig to Raza Parsa and exchanged good wishes with each other.

President urges steps to promote local businesses for GB’s self-sufficiency

ISLAMABAD, Apr 29 (APP):President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday stressed the need for steps to promote local businesses and economic activities to make Gilgit Baltistan (GB) self-sufficient as well as for inclusive and sustainable development in the area.
The president, in a meeting with GB Governor Syed Mehdi Shah and Chief Minister Gul Bar Khan, who called on him here, said the GB had enormous hydroelectric potential that needed to be capitalized for its development.
He said that GB was blessed with abundant natural resources, including mining, gems, and minerals, and called for their full exploration and development to bring economic prosperity to the area.
During the meeting, the GB governor and chief minister informed the president about the development projects being undertaken by the GB government.
They also apprised President Zardari of various issues facing the GB people, particularly the lack of education and health facilities, and unemployment.
They also requested the president to visit GB and address the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.
Emphasizing the constitutional reforms, the GB governor also pointed out the issues facing the universities and requested for president’s special attention for their resolution.
President Zardari underlined the need to initiate programs for the training and skill development of GB’s youth to equip them with employable skills as per market demand.
He called for accelerating infrastructure development in GB as well as focusing on strengthening the education and health sectors to bring it at par with other developed areas of the country.

Ahsan committed to get prepared Narowal Sports City

NAROWAL, Apr 29 (APP): Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Prof Ahsan Iqbal vowed on Monday to get prepared Narowal Sports City as per international standard before South Asian Games next year.
Presiding over a meeting, he said a cricket ground would also be prepared so that
first class cricket matches could be organized in next season. He said that he would
visit the Narowal Sports City personally and monitor the performance of executing
agencies.
Earlier, the federal minister visited the Narowal Sports City. He said after the handover of Narowal Sports City to University of Narowal from the Pakistan Sports Board, a three-member committee comprising representatives from Vice Chancellor University of Narowal, Pakistan Sports Board and Higher Education Commission was formed to run the administrative and financial affairs of the Narowal Sports City.
The committee would ensure the speedy completion of ongoing development projects
in the Sports City and ensure the payment of these projects so that Narowal Sports
City could be opened for all sports as soon as possible, he added.
On the occasion, Prof Ahsan Iqbal directed the executing agencies to complete the
restoration work of squash and badminton halls, basketball, cricket, football and hockey
grounds and hostels of Sports City in Narowal Sports City as soon as possible. He also
directed to build a Kabaddi ground in the Sports City as well.
The meeting was attended by Vice Chancellor University of Narowal Prof. Dr. Muhammad Younis, Federal Secretary for Inter Provincial Coordination Nadeem Irshad Kayani, DG Pakistan Sports Board and Additional Secretary Inter Provincial Coordination Zahoor Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Narowal Syed Hasan Raza, Focal Person Narowal Sports City Farooq Azam and representatives from the Higher Education Commission and Pakistan Sports Board.
Talking to the media, the Federal Minister said that Pakistan would organize national games before the hosting of South Asian Games. He said that coaches for all sports would be present at Narowal Sports City throughout the year to provide international standard training to the talented players.

Polio drive in full swing: ICT admins oversees campaign activities

ISLAMABAD, Apr 29 (APP): All the Assistant Commissioners of the Federal Capital were actively engaging with polio teams to ensure the success of the a seven-day anti-polio drive which started on Monday in ICT.

This proactive involvement aligned with the directives from Islamabad’s Deputy Commissioner and the Additional Deputy Commissioner East, said the Spokesman of Islamabad Capital Territory Administratiin, Dr Abdullah Tabassum here.
In this regard, the Assistant Commissioners from across the city have visited different locations to oversee the polio teams’ activities.
At Jinnah Garden,  Assistant Commissioner Saddar area, Ms Mehreen joined the morning assembly, where she discussed the day’s goals and addressed  issues concerning polio vaccinations.
She emphasized meeting the targets, addressing “not available” (NA) cases, and handling refusals to ensure maximum coverage. Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Nellore area, Uzir Ahamd participated in the morning briefing at I-8 area.
During this session, he reviewed the first day’s planning and addressed any complaints or concerns related to the polio campaign.
Similarly, in the Industrial Area, Assistant Commissioner, Farwa Batool checked in on the polio teams at UCG-15, issuing additional guidance to enhance their operations.  This focused approach aimed at streamline the vaccination process and solve any logistical issues.
Furthermore, Assistant Commissioner, Shalimar area attended the morning assembly and provided feedback on reaching out to those unavailable for vaccination and managing refusals.  Dr Abdullah said these efforts were part of a coordinated approach to ensure that the polio vaccination campaign runs smoothly and covers as much ground as possible.
It is important to note that these visits were part of a broader initiative to maintain close supervision of the anti-polio campaign. On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon said the polio campaign was a critical public health effort to eradicate the crippling disease, and the involvement of the Assistant Commissioners was a key factor in its success.
By monitoring the progress, addressing challenges, and ensuring efficient operations, ICT administration aimed at to make this anti-polio drive effective and comprehensive.

Rangers, ANF capture drug traffickers in joint operation

KARACHI, Apr 29 (APP): The Pakistan Rangers Sindh and Anti-Narcotics Force conducted a joint snap checking at Nishtar Road, resulting in the apprehension of two individuals, Shamsuddin and Abdul Ghafoor, who are on the most-wanted list for drug trafficking.
A spokesperson for the Sindh Rangers reported on Monday that in addition to the arrests, 2 kg of methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice,” was seized from the suspects.
Initial investigations revealed that the accused are part of a network responsible for distributing drugs across Karachi, sourcing their supply from Balochistan. These individuals have a history of prior arrests and incarcerations.
The agencies are currently conducting raids to apprehend other associates of the arrested suspects. The detainees, along with the confiscated drugs, have been handed over to the police for further legal proceedings.
