Commissioner reviews anti dengue measures

LAHORE, Apr 29 (APP):Lahore Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, during a meeting at his office on Monday, reviewed the ongoing measures to curb dengue.
The commissioner emphasized the importance of immediate reporting of dengue cases on the dashboard by all public and private hospitals and laboratories.
During the briefing, it was informed that no positive dengue cases have been reported in the last 24 hours. It was also mentioned that with the rise in temperature, there is a likelihood of a decrease in dengue cases. However, the activities to combat dengue will continue.
Commissioner Randhawa stated that 24 dengue cases have been reported in current year. There are a total of 24,244 hotspots identified, out of which 3,047 have served warning notices, and 16 FIRs have been registered for violations of dengue prevention measures. Training sessions for dengue prevention workers are being conducted, and literature on precautionary measures against dengue is being distributed in homes.
The commissioner directed that due to the changing weather, all hotspots should be checked and cleared daily. He also instructed the deputy commissioners to monitor the anti-dengue activities on a daily basis.
The meeting was attended by CEO Health Dr. Faisal and Dengue Analyst Dr. Amir, who provided the briefing.

3rd polio drive of 2024 starts

LAHORE, Apr 29 (APP):A week-long anti-polio drive has started in the provincial capital on Monday.
Over 2.2 million children under five year of age will be vaccinated against polio during the third drive of current year from April 29 to 5 May.
Lahore Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haider chaired the planning review meeting of the drive in which Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Muhammad Shojain Vistro presented detailed briefing on the ongoing polio eradication drive. He briefed that in the polio campaign, 274 UCMOs, 1175 area in charges, 5820 mobile teams, and 371 fixed teams will perform duties.
The deputy commissioner directed the assistant commissioners, district officers and field teams to ensure 100 percent coverage of assigned target. She directed the district health officers to work according to the micro-plan. Those involved in fake entries on the dashboard should not be spared in any case, she warned.
Polio vaccine is extremely important for the safe future of children, she said and added that every member of society should play a key role in ensuring the safe future of children. Parents should ensure that their children receive two drops of polio vaccine, she appealed and suggested that parents and teachers should also be made part of the special anti-polio campaign.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General), Assistant Commissioners, C.O Health, DDHO, and all officers attended the meeting.

PPP always stood for strengthening democracy, upholding Parliament’s supremacy: Patel

ISLAMABAD, Apr 29 (APP): Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Abdul Qadir Patel on Monday said that his party had consistently worked for strengthening democracy and upholding the supremacy of Parliament.

Speaking on a point of order in the National Assembly, he said the PPP had suffered a lot for the cause of democracy.

Patel criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for victimizing the opposition while in government. It had put the opposition leadership behind the bars in fabricated cases.

He further alleged that the PTI had managed to form governments at the federal level and in Punjab as a result of rigged elections in 2018.
Its government failed to deliver on the promises the party had made during the election campaign, particularly regarding the construction of millions of houses and jobs creation.

The PPP leader urged the opposition to join hands with the government for the progress, prosperity, and development of the country. He emphasized on the importance of unity and collaboration among political parties for the betterment of Pakistan.

Pakistan being represented at Abu Dhabi Book Fair

ABU DHABI, Apr 29 (APP): Pakistan is being represented at the Abu Dhabi Internationally Book Fair being held here at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center from April 29 to May 5.

Besides the presence of Pakistani publishers, two panels will also be discussing the Pakistani literature and drama, said a press release.

CM vows merit-based system for officers’ appointment

LAHORE, Apr 29 (APP):In a determined effort to enhance governance in Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has been actively promoting a merit-based system for the appointment of officers.
While interviewing officers for various posts, she emphasized, “I am committed to the principle of ‘Right Person for the Right Job,’ and will ensure its strict enforcement to foster a culture of good governance across the province.”
She added, “I will personally monitor the process of appointment to important positions to discourage a culture of favoritism and recommendation.” A panel of at least three officers was interviewed for each post.
Asserting her stance on competence and integrity, she declared, “In Punjab, there is no tolerance for incompetence or corruption. Only those who demonstrate performance and integrity will retain their positions.”
The Chief Minister said, “I am taking regular meetings to monitor the performance of each department. Significant signs of improvement in governance have started to be visible.”

Italy reaffirms commitment to support poverty alleviation, rural development

ISLAMABAD, Apr 29 (APP):Ambassador of Italy to Pakistan, Marilina Armellin, during a call on meeting with Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Ahad Khan Cheema here Monday reaffirmed her country’s unwavering commitment to support Pakistan in poverty reduction and rural development, technical and vocational training, cultural heritage and agriculture.

According to press statement issued by Economic Affairs Division (EAD), she apprised the minister of the implementation progress of the ongoing development portfolio funded by the Italy, including special assistance package provided in the wake of the catastrophic 2022 floods.

She said, government of Italy would be continuously supporting Pakistan for economic development activities.

The ambassador was accompanied by Head of Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), Francesco Zatta and First Secretary of the Embassy of Italy, Augusto Palmieri. Senior Officials from the Ministry of Economic Affairs were also present in the meeting.

Minister Cheema appreciated the longstanding bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Italy ever since both countries signed a Joint declaration on 14th July, 2005 in order to expand bilateral co-operation in the economic and commercial fields.

Minister Cheema underscored the shared values and perspectives between the two nations on various global matters and emphasized the significance of Italy’s economic assistance to Pakistan.

“Pakistan attaches great importance to the economic assistance extended by the Government of Italy,” the Minister said.

Expressing gratitude, Minister Cheema assured Mrs Armellin of Pakistan’s dedication to closely collaborate with the government of Italy, ensuring the effective implementation and review of ongoing projects while further strengthening bilateral ties.
