FGRF hands over keys of houses built for Kalam’s flood victims

ISLAMABAD, Dec 04 (APP):The Faizan Global Relief Foundation of Dawat-e-Islami (FGRF) on Monday handed over the keys of the houses built for the flood victims of Kalam that got affected during the disastrous floods of 2022.
By this time, FGRF-Dawat-e-Islami had built around 5,000 houses and handed them over to the flood victims across Pakistan, the FGRF spokesperson told APP while sharing relief updates in flood-hit areas.
It may be recalled that in the 2022 floods, several houses were also destroyed in Kalam and people were in a dilapidated state.
The FGRF provided ration, shelter and other supplies to the victims and also took responsibility for the construction of damaged houses and also built houses for them.
In this regard, a function was also organized in Kalam. DSP Circle Madin, Habibullah, AC Bahrain, former Tehsil Nazim, Habibullah Saqib, SHO Kalam and FGRF Supervisory Majlis member Haji Shifaat Attari, provincial officials Salim Attari along with division and district officials were present in the ceremony.
A large number of officials of Dawat-e-Islami participated along with the guests who later spoke to the media about the keys handing over to the victims.
The victims told the media that they thank the FGRF for this initiative. “FGRF supported us even during the flood days and provided rations, mattresses, beds and necessities of life and sent hundreds of truckloads of rations to our areas of Bahrain, Madin and Kalam. And today we are very grateful to Dawat-e-Islami for making houses for those whose houses were destroyed in this flood,” they said.
The spokesperson of FGRF said, “We have not forgotten the Muslims who are in trouble and the construction of more houses is going on.”
At the end of the program, FGRF also distributed rations to the victims.

Dr Nadeem holds meetings at COP 28 conference

ISLAMABAD, Dec 04 (APP): Caretaker Federal Minister for Health Dr Nadeem Jan on Monday met health ministers of various counties in the sideline meetings of the COP 28 conference in Dubai.

He met the ministers of Health of UAE, Macedonia, Netherlands, and Latvia.

Dr. Nadeem Jan has agreed to fully cooperate with these health ministers on the agenda of global health security.

He also agreed to advance the agenda of health and climate change.

All four health ministers fully supported the steps taken by the government of Pakistan in the health sector.

Dr. Nadeem has given full assurance to advance the agenda of health for all.

He informed them about the efforts to eradicate polio from the country.

AIOU accelerates dispatching books to BA students

ISLAMABAD, Dec 04 (APP):Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has completed the process of delivering books to the students enrolled in matric and FA programs for autumn semester 2023.
According to AIOU, the process of dispatching books to students of BA (Associate Degree) programs has been accelerated. Books have been sent to 5 thousand students in associate degree program.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nasir Mahmood, has instructed the Mailing section to complete the book delivery process for students enrolled in BA (Associate Degree) programs before the deadline for the first assignment, which is January 10th.
The mailing department has expedited the book delivery process to meet this target. Moreover, students enrolled in matriculation, FA, and BA programs can track their book delivery status on the Pakistan Post Office website.

Justice (R) Mazhar appointed as chairman Competition Appellate Tribunal

ISLAMABAD, Dec 04 (APP):The Ministry of Law and Justice on Monday issued notification regarding the appointment of Justice (retd) Mazhar Alam Khan as chairman Competition Appellate Tribunal.
The notification said, in exercise of  the powers conferred by Section 43 of Competition Appellate Act, 2010, the federal government is pleased to appoint Justice (R) Mazhar Alam Khan as chairman Competition Appellate Tribunal, Islamabad till attaining the age of sixty-eight years  with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post.

German Development Bank boosts support for power transmission, health sectors of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Dec 4 (APP): The Ministry of Economic Affairs and KfW, the German Development Bank on Monday signed an agreement for enhancing the capacity of the power transmission sector in Pakistan and supporting the health sector, particularly in areas affected by floods.

Sebastian Jacobi, Country Director of KfW and Dr Kazim Niaz, Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs inked the agreements that signify Germany’s commitment to furthering the development goals of Pakistan.

Managing Director NTDC, Engineer Dr Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan was also present on the occasion, said in a press release.

Under the accompanying Measures to support the “Promotion of Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency” program, KfW, representing the German Government, will provide an additional grant of Euro 2.5 million to the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC).

This funding will assist NTDC in ensuring the effective operation and maintenance of installations, incorporating robust environmental and social management systems. The initiative is poised to enhance the integration of needs-based renewable energy into the transmission system, thereby contributing to sustainable economic growth and climate protection.

In another significant move, KfW will allocate an additional Euro 1.5 million to the “Self-Employment of Women in the Private Health Sector” program. This initiative aims to empower women economically by establishing 400 clinics in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, creating income-generating opportunities. The support is designed to foster inclusive and sustainable economic growth while concurrently improving reproductive health services in rural areas.

Expressing gratitude, Kazim Niaz, Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, acknowledged the German Government’s steadfast support and commended KfW for its pivotal role in fostering economic growth and sustainable development in Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Sebastian Jacobi emphasized that KfW’s funding in the energy and governance sectors will not only drive sectoral improvements but also contribute to the socio-economic uplift of beneficiaries through job creation and infrastructure development.

Highlighting the longstanding economic cooperation between Germany and Pakistan, dating back over 60 years, Jacobi noted that Germany has consistently supported Pakistan in infrastructure development and improving social conditions.

The latest agreements reaffirm Germany’s commitment to being a reliable partner in Pakistan’s journey towards progress and prosperity.

Sightsavers sought stakeholders’ input for Rules of Business for GB Disability Act 2019

ISLAMABAD, Dec 04 (APP):Ensuring the journey from legislation to implementation, Sightsavers and Social Welfare Department Government of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) on Monday held a consultation workshop with stakeholders including government line departments, UN agencies, national NGOs and representatives of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities and their networks on the development of Rules of Business for Disability Act 2019.
This initiative will help gather participants input on draft Rules of Business for Disability Act 2019 and translating disability act into practical guidelines to ensure an effective implementation of the Disability Act 2019, a news release said.
The GB government approved the Disability Act but the Act had not been fully implemented due to absence of rules of business.
A detailed presentation on  rules of business was given to the stakeholders.
The participants gave their input and suggestions on the basis of their expertise and knowledge to make it an effective document covering all aspects.
The comments, feedback and suggestions provided by stakeholders will be incorporated in the draft to make it as effective as possible.
Social Welfare Department GB, Dr. Sarwar while addressing a stakeholders consultation appreciated Sightsavers and other stakeholders on this much needed support especially consultations with people with disabilities.
He said that this will help in ensuring the rights of persons with disabilities creating an equal access to opportunities and services for them. He requested stakeholders for their active participation and open feedback.
Country Director Sightsavers, Munazza Gillani said that including voice of people with disabilities is critically important to make sure that rules of business are addressing their needs.
She appreciated the department of social welfare on being forthcoming and including all key stakeholders in the process.
She reiterated that Sightsavers would employ all means to support this initiative further to get the rules of business developed.
She further added that approval of rules of business would be a step towards ensuring achievement of SDGs in the region.
Secretariate Coordinator CBID Network, Asim Zafar talked about the history of disability legislation in Pakistan and appreciated the government of Gilgit-Baltistan on taking lead in approval of Disability Act in 2019 and now initiating the development of Rules of Business for its successful implementation.
Advocate Rana Asif Habib led the participants’ input session and discussion on Rules of Business for the Disability Act.
