Data of 341,000 persons with disabilities compiled

LAHORE, Aug 04 (APP):The Punjab government has compiled and verified the data of 341,000 persons with disabilities to give them financial support and various other incentives under its Himmat Card initiative, Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal sources told APP on Sunday.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz recently announced launching a loan scheme for those with disabilities, who are eligible to work. Special individuals will be given a loan of Rs. 1 to 2 lakh for financial independence.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government is already providing stipend of Rs. 7,500, which is a valuable support to individuals suffering from any physical or mental disability.
In line with the directives of the Punjab chief minister, members of the provincial assembly were now being involved in the Himmat Card initiative. It is being ensured that the Himmat Card should reach every deserving individual promptly. The spokesman said progress on the Himmat Card initiative was being reviewed on daily basis across the province.
“To successfully accomplish the initiative across all Punjab districts, we need full cooperation of the assembly members,” the Bair-ul-Mal official said.

Police martyrs’ day observed in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Aug 04 (APP):The Police Yaum-e- Shuhada (Martyrs’ Day) was observed in the district to pay homage and tribute to the sacrifices rendered by the policemen with a ceremony held here at Ejaz Shaheed Police Lines, Dera Ismail Khan on Sunday.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Dera Nasir Mehmood Satti, Acting Sessions Judge Mian Mehmood, Additional Session Judge Jameel Khan, District Police Officer Nasir Mehmood, Officers of Pak Army, SPs Investigation, CTD, City, Saddar, SDPOs, relatives of martyrs, religious leaders, traders, media persons and people from different walks of life participated in the meeting.
To pay tribute to the martyrs of the police, the children of the martyred policemen performed Naats, songs and speeches.
Addressing the ceremony, RPO Nasir Mehmood Satti said that the rank and position that the Almighty has given to a martyr in Islam was matchless. “The martyrs are our real heroes and their families were a source of boosting the morale of our forces,” he mentioned.
He paid tribute to the police martyrs who rendered their lives while safeguarding the people’s lives and properties.
“Their great sacrifices of police martyrs can never be forgotten,” he acknowledged.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police made an unparalleled story of sacrifices by rendering their lives for the sake of national survival and security against terrorists, he said.
The August 4th is observed as ‘Police Martyrs Day’ across the country to assure the families of the martyrs that the blood of their martyrs will not go in vain, the RPO said and added that today’s peace in the region was because of the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs.
He paid salutes to the mothers and sisters of those whose loved ones sacrificed their today for the nation’s tomorrow.
He said the police would not hesitate to sacrifice their lives in future for the survival of the country and the nation.
Earlier, the RPO also visited ‘Yadgar-e-Shuhada’ and prayed for the elevation of martyrs’ ranks.
Later, the RPO and DPO Nasir Mehmood along with the children of martyrs also planted saplings in the Ejaz Shaheed Police Lines in connection with the ongoing Monsoon tree plantation campaign.

PSCA commemorates Police Martyrs’ Day

LAHORE, Aug 04 (APP):The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) organised a solemn ceremony in respect of the brave police martyrs and their families on Police Martyrs’ Day.
The event was held to pay tribute to the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty to ensure the safety and security of our nation. During the ceremony, Safe City officers, along with representatives from Allied forces, Operation Command, and police communication officers, recited Fateha and offered special prayers in memory of the martyrs. The officers also prayed for the prosperity of the country and its people.
The PSCA spokesperson said: “The martyrs are our precious asset, and their eternal sacrifices will always be remembered. These brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the path of duty are our pride.”
The ceremony was a poignant reminder of the selfless dedication and courage of our police force, whose sacrifices have paved the way for a safer and more secure society. Seven brick kilns sealed for causing pollution

KHANEWAL, Aug 04 (APP):The district administration has sealed seven brick kilns for not shifting kilns on latest zigzag technology, during a special crackdown launched across the district on Sunday.
In line with special directives of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Ali Bukhari, the Assistant Director Environment Department Sarfraz Anjum along with his team, launched a crackdown against kilns causing environmental pollution due the old technology. The team visited different areas of Kabirwala and Makhdoom Rasheed and sealed seven brick kilns.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarfraz Anjum said that final warning was issued to the kiln owners to shift their kilns on latest zigzag technology. He said that the special steps were being taken to prevent environmental pollution and zero tolerance policy was being followed in this regard.
He maintained that the deputy commissioner has directed for stern action against violators adding that the crackdown would continue on daily basis to control environmental pollution.

7 dead, 1,240 injured in Punjab road accidents

LAHORE, Aug 04 (APP):At least seven people were killed and 1,240 others injured in 1,184 road accidents in Punjab during the last 24 hours.
As many as 550 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 690 with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by rescue medical teams.
The data analysis showed that 711 drivers, 51 underage drivers, 125 pedestrians, and 411 passengers were among the victims of road crashes. The statistics showed that 258 accidents were reported in Lahore, which affected 279 people, placing the provincial capital at top of the list, followed by Faisalabad with 93 accidents and 103 victims, and at third Gujranwala with 66 accidents and 58 victims.
According to the data, 1,080 motorbikes, 79 auto-rickshaws, 103 motorcars, 24 vans, six passenger buses, 27 truck and 110 other types of vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in the road accidents.

Over 95% areas cleared of water on time: Sukkur Mayor

SUKKUR, Aug 04 (APP): Spokesperson for Sindh Government and Sukkur Mayor, Barrister Arsalan Islam Sheikh on Sunday has said that some people are conspiring against him and Sukkur city by paying money, but we are not worried about them.
Despite continuous rain in the last 22 hours, 95% of the city’s areas have been cleared of water adding that they  acknowledge that issues arose in the clock tower area and Government Degree College due to generator failure, but we have provided alternative solutions, he added.
According to him, Sukkur experienced the highest rainfall in Sindh over the past 22 hours, with 137 mm of rain causing issues in some areas.
He stated that, for the first time in 70 years, the old Sukkur area remained flood-free due to improved arrangements, and there is currently no water-logging in the area. He added that backup machinery has been installed at 57 disposal stations across Sukkur city to ensure prompt response to any emergency.
He further added that work on the project to address the issues at Ghanta Ghar Chowk in the city center will commence from  September2024 , explaining that tackling this problem during the monsoon season would have caused issues in other areas. He said that out of the allocated two billion rupees for this project, one billion eighty crores have not been released yet.
He said that the false news is being circulated on the social media that Rs. 2 billion project of disposal couldn’t change the fate of Ghanta Ghar area.
He urged traders and citizens to not fall prey to such elements, but to support us for the betterment and benefit of the city and keep an eye on these evil elements.

4 labourers injured in roof collapse

FAISALABAD, Aug 04 (APP):Four labourers sustained multiple injuries due to a roof collapse in the area of Tandlianwala police station.
Rescue 1122 spokesman said here on Sunday that old and redundant roof of a house caved in during its repair work in Chak No. 408-GB.
As a result, four labourers including Aslam (60), Shahid (45), Iqbal (60) and Akram (35) received injuries and Rescue 1122 provided first aid in addition to shifting them to Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital Tandlianwala for treatment, he added.

Special anti-polio campaign to commence during next three months in Balochistan

QUETTA, Aug 4 (APP):Prime Minister’s Focal Person on Polio Eradication Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq on Sunday expressed concern over the recently reported polio cases from Balochistan and determined to launch a special anti-polio campaign in the province during the next three months to get all children under the age of five vaccinated to keep them protected from paralytic polio.
The special anti-polio drive planned in light of two recent polio cases reported will commence in September, October and November this year across the province.
Chief Minister (CM) of Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti, Prime Minister’s focal person for anti-polio Ayesha Raza Farooq met here at the CM’s Secretariat. Commissioner Quetta Division Hamza Shafqaat and Coordinator Emergency Operation Center Inam Khan Mandokhail were also present on the occasion.
In the meeting, the prevention of polio in the province, the successful outcome of the anti-polio campaign in Balochistan and other related issues were discussed.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that full administrative support will be provided to the anti-polio teams and strict action will be taken against those who interfere in the polio campaign for making significant progress in the fight against polio.
The chief minister directed the health secretary that the health department should not show any negligence in the anti-polio and immunization program and conduct a standard campaign in this regard. He directed that an extended program of immunization (EPI) should be conducted frequently for the next few months in high-risk districts.
He said that the campaign of the anti-polio program under the supervision of deputy commissioners will be carried out successfully and any kind of administrative negligence will not be tolerated in this regard. He said that for the success of the anti-polio drive, it is necessary to boost public awareness, in this regard, the role of scholars, media and civil society is vital to become polio-free.

Punjab to inaugurate Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar programme on Aug 14

LAHORE, Aug 04 (APP):Punjab Chief minister Maryam Nawaz will inaugurate ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ programme on August 14. On Sunday, she approved in principle three models for ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ programme.
Presiding over a meeting here, the CM stopped the authorities from collecting service charges from the plot owners. Model houses have been developed as a pilot programme of the ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ initiative. The chief minister ordered to include living room also in the map of model houses. She ordered to introduce toll-free numbers for the convenience of people.
On the directions of the chief minister, the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will develop a special portal for ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ programme through which the aspirants would be able to submit online their applications. Secretary Housing Captain (retd) Asadullah Khan gave a briefing on the programme.
The meeting was briefed that ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ programme forms could be obtained from the offices of deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners. Plot owners of up to 5 marlas would be able to get interest-free loan for building their houses. According to the chief minister’s instructions, the house owners would get the facility to repay the loan in easy installments. Allottees of the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA under the PHATA Ordinance 2002, would get 3- and 5-marla houses in private schemes.
Meanwhile, according to the programme, allottees of PHATA would pay house installments in five years after buying a house in private scheme. The Punjab government would also provide subsidy to reduce housing cost in private scheme.
In this connection about 70,000 plot owners in any city or village would be able to take loans. Likewise, owner of plot of up to 5-marla would be able to get interest-free loan for building house. Important decisions were approved in the meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

President HCSTSI for ensuring transparency of all projects related to energy

HYDERABAD, Aug 04 (APP):Muhammad Farooq Shaikhani, President, Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry (HCSTSI) has urged the government to ensure transparency of all projects initiated under public-private partnership agreements. He called for regular audits and a robust monitoring system to curb corruption and advocated for the promotion of alternative energy sources, such as solar and wind power.
In a statement on Sunday, the President HCSTSI argued that these measures would help reduce electricity prices and amend policies to eliminate unreasonable conditions, ultimately easing the economic burden. He asked the government to ensure the transparency of all projects, making decisions with the public interest in mind.
Shaikhani stressed that a strong economy was essential for a strong Pakistan. Therefore, any projects found detrimental to the economy must be reviewed and if necessary, cancelled to protect the nation’s financial stability, he said.
