IG Punjab listens to problems of police employees, issues orders for relief

LAHORE, Aug 08 (APP):Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar met the police employees and their families at the Central Police Office here on Thursday.
He heard the requests and problems presented by the police employees and issued orders for immediate relief.
The IG Punjab directed Additional IG Training to provide relief on contract renewal request of former PTC Lahore’s psychologist Aqsa Safdar. He issued instructions to the AIG Admin to provide relief to the recruitment requests of the sons of Head Constables Jamshed Ali and Muhammad Tufail on family claims basis. He directed the DIG Welfare to provide relief on the application of educational scholarship of the children of Head Constable Zafar Iqbal Shaheed.
The IG Punjab issued instructions to AIG Admin on Constable Muhammad Hafeez Shaheed’s son transfer request to central police office from Special protection unit. On the request of the family of Constable Malik Noor Muhammad Shaheed, IG Punjab instructed DPO Khanewal to resolve the issues under personal supervision. On the recruitment request of son of Inspector Fida Hussain Shaheed on family claims basis, IG Punjab issued orders to the AIG admin for relief. He directed effective coordination and follow-up to provide relief through immediate action on all requests. He also issued orders for relief on requests regarding discipline, welfare, other professional matters. He said that the supervisory officers should provide relief to the employees’ families by solving the problems under personal supervision.

MNA Tahira Aurangzeb visits Nullah Lai to review water level

RAWALPINDI, Aug 08 (APP): Member National Assembly (MNA) Tahira Aurangzeb along with Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Engineer Amir Khattak here on Thursday visited Gawalmandi and Pirwadhai areas to review water level in Nullah Lai.

On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner, Rawalpindi Hasan Waqar Cheema was also present.

Tahira Aurangzeb and Engineer Amir Khattak inspected the water level in Nullah Lai following heavy rain in twin cities, Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Tahira Aurangzeb said, all possible steps were being taken by the Rawalpindi district administration to deal with any emergency and urban flooding.

She further said that Nullah Lai was cleaned before start of Monsoon rains on the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Despite heavy rains in twin cities, situation remained under control and there was no urban flooding in city areas, she said.
Tahira Aurangzeb appreciated arrangements made by the district administration and Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi for Monsoon.

The Commissioner said that due to the timely cleaning of Nullah Lai and other drains, no problem was faced during this season.

The officers concerned and staff had been deployed at 19 vulnerable points near Nullah Lai, he added.
Aamir Khattak said that Rawalpindi District Administration had done a great job.

The DC said that all the relevant departments were on high alert. The leaves of the officers and personnel of all the concerned institutions were cancelled and best possible arrangements were made for Monsoon, he added.

Chinese delegation keen to invest in Islamabad’s development projects

ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (APP):A Chinese delegation in a meeting with Chairman CDA, Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Thursday expressed their keen interest to invest in development projects of Islamabad.
The meeting focused on exploring avenues for collaboration and investment in key sectors.
During the briefing, the delegation expressed desire to invest in the project of transferring CDA offices and streetlights to solar energy.
This initiative aligns with country’s goal of promoting renewable energy sources and reducing carbon emissions.
Muhammad Ali Randhawa welcomed global investors, particularly from China, to invest in Islamabad’s development projects.
He assured the delegation that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) would extend full support to facilitate investments.
The meeting also discussed other upcoming projects of CDA, including the Silicon Valley and Four Tier Data projects for IT.
The delegation was briefed on the details of these projects, highlighting their potential for growth and investment.
Following the meeting, Muhammad Ali Randhawa announced that work on the feasibility plan for the discussed projects would commence soon.
He appreciated China’s initiative to invest in various projects in Pakistan, further strengthening the bond between the two countries.

US Ambassador calls on Muqam to discuss Afghan refugees’ issues

ISLAMABAD, Aug 8 (APP): United States Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Armin Blome on Thursday called on Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON Engr. Amir Muqam and discussed the matters related to the welfare of Afghan refugees, rehabilitation, and bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting here, the minister expressed his gratitude for the long-standing cooperation of US with Pakistan. He said that Pakistan was combating successful war against terrorism and also rendered countless sacrifices in terms of human lives and economic losses.

He said that more than 70,000 lives had been lost due to terrorism in Pakistan since 2001 and more than $150 billion in economic losses.

Amir Muqam urged the international community to recognize Pakistan’s efforts in the war against terrorism.
He emphasized the need for the assistance of the United States and other international partners in the return of Afghan refugees. He emphasized on increasing US aid to host communities and efforts to create favorable conditions in Afghanistan for the return of refugees.

On the occasion, US Ambassador Donald Blome reiterated US commitment to support Pakistan’s economic development, especially in improving exports in textiles sector.

He acknowledged the Pakistan’s efforts in eliminating the menace of terrorism and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan were affected badly Donald Bloom appreciated Pakistan’s role in supporting the hosting of Afghan citizens.

The meeting ended with both sides pledging continued cooperation.

The minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to work with the US and the international community to find a lasting solution for the Afghan refugees. He emphasized the need for increased cooperation and joint efforts.

University Students spend day with Pakistan Navy

LAHORE, Aug 8 (APP): The Pakistan Navy organized an event “A day with Pakistan Navy” for the students from various universities and colleges to enlighten them on the functioning, organisation and defence capabilities of Pakistan Navy.

A total of 250 students alongwith the faculty members from Lahore Garrison University and various cadet colleges under supervision of TABA Foundation attended the event, a Pakistan Navy news release on Thursday said.

During his interaction with students and faculty, Commander Central Punjab Rear Admiral Azhar Mehmood apprised them about Pakistan Navy’s commitment to protect maritime frontiers of the country. He also highlighted the importance of maritime sector for developing countries and how a strong Navy can facilitate economic development of their nation.

Later, demonstration of combat readiness by troops, display of arms and equipment followed by anti-terrorist demo by Pakistan Marines and Special Service Group (SSG) of Pakistan Navy were presented. The students took keen interest while attending the briefing about PN roles & responsibilities, latest platforms available in PN Fleet and other dimensions of Pakistan Navy. The visiting students and faculty members praised the state of commitment and professional competence of Maritime Defenders of the country.

CDA chairman for connecting cycle tracks to metro stations

ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (APP): Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Thursday emphasized the importance of connecting cycle tracks with metro and other bus stations in Islamabad.

The consultants from Asian Development Bank (ADB) gave a detailed briefing to Chairman CDA on proposed cycle tracks in Islamabad.

The meeting was held via Zoom aimed at introducing an affordable and alternative mode of transportation and recreation in the Capital City.

Chairman Randhawa stressed that the project should be developed according to international standards while being cost-effective.

He directed to consult environmental experts to ensure the design is eco-friendly and preserves the city’s green belt.

The ADB mission shared international best practices and experiences from various countries, providing valuable insights for the development of cycle tracks in Islamabad.

Suggestions were made to complete the project, incorporating these international standards.

Alhamra hosts live painting competition

LAHORE, Aug 08 (APP):Alhamra Arts Council organized a live painting competition to commemorate Independence Day.
Through their artwork, artists paid homage to the nation’s leaders of Pakistan Movement and honored the eternal sacrifices of the martyrs.
Executive Director Alhamra Sarah Rashid, in her remarks, emphasized that the organization planned a series of programs to mark Independence Day like the building was adorned with the national flag in green and white while young Pakistani artists are encouraged to reflect on the martyrs’ sacrifices through the medium of painting. “We are pleased to witness the enthusiastic participation of our youth, who have vividly depicted the struggles of the freedom movement, the crescent and star of our flag, and our revered leaders. Their work is a testament to their profound love for the country,” she said.
A jury led by Irfan Gul will assess the artworks created during the competition.
At the ceremony on August 14, the top three artists will receive certificates and cash prizes. Additionally, an exhibition of all the participating artworks will be held, showcasing the creativity and passion of the young artists.
The competition pays tribute to the nation’s heroes and inspires the younger generation to acknowledge the sacrifices made for their freedom.

PFA imposes Rs 0.5m fine on ice cream unit

LAHORE, Aug 08 (APP):The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) under the supervision of its Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid raided a famous ice cream production unit on 46km Multan Road and imposed Rs 0.5 million fine due to using expired ingredients.
Meanwhile, the authority has discarded 893kg of expired strawberry and vanilla flavours, 975kg of expired milk powder and 355kg of cocoa powder.
PFA DG Muhammad Asim Javaid said that the authority took action for using expired food-graded flavours in the preparation of yummy ice cream. Meanwhile, the raiding team also witnessed dirty walls, fungus on machines and stagnant water in the production area.
He expressed serious concern over recovering a huge quantity of expired food products during a raid on an ice cream unit and said that using expired raw materials in preparing children’s food is harmful to their health.
He said that the authority deals with small and big food businesses without any discrimination as per the law. On the special directions of Chief Minister Punjab, strict legal action will be taken against those involved in negligence in the preparation of food, he added.
He urged people to read the writing on the label before purchasing any foodstuff and avoid purchasing substandard foodstuff. He has requested the public to support the PFA in eliminating the adulteration mafia and report to the PFA on its 1223 helpline number in case of any complaints.

Minister visits Municipal Corporation General Hospital

LAHORE, Aug 08 (APP):On the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman visited the Municipal Corporation General Hospital, Kot Khwaja Saeed, on Thursday.
During the visit, he assessed the available medical facilities and reviewed the recent upgraded facilities at the hospital. The Minister inspected various departments, engaging with patients to inquire about the quality of care, the presence of doctors, availability of medicines, and the behavior of the hospital staff.
Addressing the hospital staff and the media, the Provincial Minister emphasized that the health sector remains a top priority for the Punjab government, with significant budget allocations directed toward health and education. He highlighted that the upgrade of hospitals across Punjab is currently underway and that within a year, the enhancement work at all hospitals, including THQs and BHUs, will be completed. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the people of Punjab can expect substantial improvements in the healthcare sector. The upgrade process is being directly monitored by cabinet teams, he added.
The Minister noted that Kot Khwaja Saeed Hospital, located in his constituency, was founded by his father, Shuja-ur-Rehman, during Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s tenure as Mayor of Lahore. In 2008, Shehbaz Sharif elevated the status of the hospital to a teaching hospital, ensuring regular doctor attendance, establishing a proper emergency department, and providing CT scan facilities. Additionally, specialized treatment for heart and other diseases was introduced. Under the leadership of Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the hospital’s capacity has now been further expanded, he said and added that currently, Kot Khwaja Saeed Hospital serves a population of 2 million, with new blocks and essential machinery being added.
The Minister assured that he is fully aware of the needs of his constituents and that any additional machinery or facilities required at the hospital will be provided.
Responding to media queries, the Minister shared that efforts to remove encroachments near hospitals in the city have begun. In the coming months, construction and repair work on the roads leading to the hospital will also commence, he added.

Pakistan’s total liquid foreign reserves increase to $ 14.47 billion

KARACHI, Aug 08 (APP):The total liquid foreign reserves of Pakistan increased to US$ 14,471.9 million as of August 2, 2024 while the reserves held by the central bank were recorded as $ 9,153.3 million.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), in a statement issued here on Thursday, informed that liquid foreign reserves held by the central bank increased by $ 51 million to reach $ 9,153.3 million during the week ended on August 2, 2024.
Meanwhile, net foreign reserves held by commercial banks were recorded as $ 5,318.6 million during the week under review, it added.
Total liquid foreign reserves held by the country, in the previous week ended on July 26, 2024, were $ 14,391.7 million. Among them foreign reserves held by the central bank were recorded as $ 9,102.2 million while $ 5,289.5 million were held by commercial banks.
