MNA Tahira Aurangzeb visits Nullah Lai to review water level
RAWALPINDI, Aug 08 (APP): Member National Assembly (MNA) Tahira Aurangzeb along with Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Engineer Amir Khattak here on Thursday visited Gawalmandi and Pirwadhai areas to review water level in Nullah Lai.
On this occasion, Deputy Commissioner, Rawalpindi Hasan Waqar Cheema was also present.
Tahira Aurangzeb and Engineer Amir Khattak inspected the water level in Nullah Lai following heavy rain in twin cities, Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
Tahira Aurangzeb said, all possible steps were being taken by the Rawalpindi district administration to deal with any emergency and urban flooding.
She further said that Nullah Lai was cleaned before start of Monsoon rains on the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Despite heavy rains in twin cities, situation remained under control and there was no urban flooding in city areas, she said.
Tahira Aurangzeb appreciated arrangements made by the district administration and Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi for Monsoon.
The Commissioner said that due to the timely cleaning of Nullah Lai and other drains, no problem was faced during this season.
The officers concerned and staff had been deployed at 19 vulnerable points near Nullah Lai, he added.
Aamir Khattak said that Rawalpindi District Administration had done a great job.
The DC said that all the relevant departments were on high alert. The leaves of the officers and personnel of all the concerned institutions were cancelled and best possible arrangements were made for Monsoon, he added.

US Ambassador calls on Muqam to discuss Afghan refugees’ issues
ISLAMABAD, Aug 8 (APP): United States Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Armin Blome on Thursday called on Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON Engr. Amir Muqam and discussed the matters related to the welfare of Afghan refugees, rehabilitation, and bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting here, the minister expressed his gratitude for the long-standing cooperation of US with Pakistan. He said that Pakistan was combating successful war against terrorism and also rendered countless sacrifices in terms of human lives and economic losses.
He said that more than 70,000 lives had been lost due to terrorism in Pakistan since 2001 and more than $150 billion in economic losses.
Amir Muqam urged the international community to recognize Pakistan’s efforts in the war against terrorism.
He emphasized the need for the assistance of the United States and other international partners in the return of Afghan refugees. He emphasized on increasing US aid to host communities and efforts to create favorable conditions in Afghanistan for the return of refugees.
On the occasion, US Ambassador Donald Blome reiterated US commitment to support Pakistan’s economic development, especially in improving exports in textiles sector.
He acknowledged the Pakistan’s efforts in eliminating the menace of terrorism and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan were affected badly Donald Bloom appreciated Pakistan’s role in supporting the hosting of Afghan citizens.
The meeting ended with both sides pledging continued cooperation.
The minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to work with the US and the international community to find a lasting solution for the Afghan refugees. He emphasized the need for increased cooperation and joint efforts.
University Students spend day with Pakistan Navy
LAHORE, Aug 8 (APP): The Pakistan Navy organized an event “A day with Pakistan Navy” for the students from various universities and colleges to enlighten them on the functioning, organisation and defence capabilities of Pakistan Navy.
A total of 250 students alongwith the faculty members from Lahore Garrison University and various cadet colleges under supervision of TABA Foundation attended the event, a Pakistan Navy news release on Thursday said.
During his interaction with students and faculty, Commander Central Punjab Rear Admiral Azhar Mehmood apprised them about Pakistan Navy’s commitment to protect maritime frontiers of the country. He also highlighted the importance of maritime sector for developing countries and how a strong Navy can facilitate economic development of their nation.
Later, demonstration of combat readiness by troops, display of arms and equipment followed by anti-terrorist demo by Pakistan Marines and Special Service Group (SSG) of Pakistan Navy were presented. The students took keen interest while attending the briefing about PN roles & responsibilities, latest platforms available in PN Fleet and other dimensions of Pakistan Navy. The visiting students and faculty members praised the state of commitment and professional competence of Maritime Defenders of the country.
CDA chairman for connecting cycle tracks to metro stations
ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (APP): Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Thursday emphasized the importance of connecting cycle tracks with metro and other bus stations in Islamabad.
The consultants from Asian Development Bank (ADB) gave a detailed briefing to Chairman CDA on proposed cycle tracks in Islamabad.
The meeting was held via Zoom aimed at introducing an affordable and alternative mode of transportation and recreation in the Capital City.
Chairman Randhawa stressed that the project should be developed according to international standards while being cost-effective.
He directed to consult environmental experts to ensure the design is eco-friendly and preserves the city’s green belt.
The ADB mission shared international best practices and experiences from various countries, providing valuable insights for the development of cycle tracks in Islamabad.
Suggestions were made to complete the project, incorporating these international standards.
