Naveed Qamar elected President of PGA
ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (APP): Parliamentarians from across all parties in both Houses of Parliament Thursday elected Syed Naveed Qamar as the President of the Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA).
PGA is a non-governmental, multi-party international network of legislators acting in their individual capacities to contribute towards the creation of a rules-based international order for a more equitable, safe, sustainable, and democratic world.
Upon his election, the newly elected PGA President, Syed Naveed Qamar, underscored the significance of the organization and its remarkable achievements since its establishment in 1978. He encouraged parliamentarians to join the PGA and actively contribute to advancing human rights and the rule of law.
Addressing the plight of the innocent Palestinian people, Qamar highlighted that such forums provide a crucial platform to collectively raise voices for victims of aggression and barbarism.
He also informed the participants that the National Assembly of Pakistan would be hosting the 45th Annual Forum of the PGA, alongside the 13th Consultative Assembly of Parliamentarians on the International Criminal Court and the Rule of Law (CAP-ICC), from October 28-29, 2024, in Islamabad.
Parliamentarians congratulated Syed Naveed Qamar on his election to the prestigious office of PGA President, noting that his achievement is a source of pride not only for him but also for the entire parliament and the nation.
The parliamentarians expressed great interest in PGA’s activities and assured their full support towards making the October conference in Pakistan a success.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for Law & Justice, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, and parliamentarians from both Houses of Parliament, with the virtual presence of First Lady Ms. Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and other renowned parliamentarian.

LG elections in ICT to be held on Sept 29: ECP announces schedule
ISLAMABAD, Aug 8 (APP): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday announced schedule for conduct of Local Government (LG) elections in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
Public notice inviting nomination papers to be issued by the Returning Officers (ROs) on August 15 and the candidates could file their nomination papers with the ROs from August 16 to 20, said a notification issued here.
The name of nominated candidates would be published on August 21 while the ROs would scrutinize nominations papers
of the candidates from August 22 to 26.
The candidates could file appeals against the decisions of the ROs (accepting/rejecting the nomination papers) from August 27 to 29.
The revised list of the candidates would be published on September 4 while the last date for withdrawal of candidature and publication of revised list would be September 5. Symbols to the candidates would be allotted on September 6. Polling would be held on September 29, the notification added.
Polling hours will be observed from 08:00am to 05:00 pm.
