Digital Art Exhibition held in PAC

RAWALPINDI, Aug 08 (APP):A two-day digital art exhibition titled “Historical Places of Pakistan” was organized at the Punjab Arts Council (PAC) in connection with the Independence Day celebrations.
Former Directors of the Arts Council, Naheed Manzoor and Waqar Ahmed inaugurated the exhibition as the chief guests.
The exhibition showcased 60 artworks by 30 students from the Arts Council’s graphic designing class. The chief guests remarked that digital art is as much an art form as the work of a painter or any other artist.
They emphasized that the promotion of art and culture not only strengthens society intellectually but also highlights national identity and serves as a means of connection between different civilizations.
Waqar Ahmed on the occasion said that art and culture were the soul of any society.
“Art is an expression of human emotions, thoughts, and creativity, manifesting in various forms such as painting, sculpture, music, dance, literature, and theater”, he said adding ” art reflects human creativity and experiences”.
Waqar further said that the promotion of art and culture not only leads to social development but also guides individuals toward a comprehensive and meaningful life.
Director PAC Rawalpindi, Sajjad Hussain, reiterated that PAC would continue playing an exemplary role in promoting and advancing the culture of Punjab.
“The Punjab Arts Council is not only preserving its heritage but also transferring it to the new generation”, he added.
 At the end of the ceremony, certificates of appreciation were distributed among the students.

Jam Kamal visits Expo Centre to review Food Ag-2024 arrangements

KARACHI, Aug 08 (APP):Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan on Thursday visited the Expo Centre Karachi to review the arrangements for FoodAg 2024.
Jam Kamal accompanied by officers of Commerce Ministry and the TDAP inspected arrangements made for the three day Exhibition which will be participated by over 1,000 delegates from 74 countries.

Naveed Qamar elected President of PGA

ISLAMABAD, Aug 08 (APP): Parliamentarians from across all parties in both Houses of Parliament Thursday elected Syed Naveed Qamar as the President of the Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA).

PGA is a non-governmental, multi-party international network of legislators acting in their individual capacities to contribute towards the creation of a rules-based international order for a more equitable, safe, sustainable, and democratic world.

Upon his election, the newly elected PGA President, Syed Naveed Qamar, underscored the significance of the organization and its remarkable achievements since its establishment in 1978. He encouraged parliamentarians to join the PGA and actively contribute to advancing human rights and the rule of law.

Addressing the plight of the innocent Palestinian people, Qamar highlighted that such forums provide a crucial platform to collectively raise voices for victims of aggression and barbarism.

He also informed the participants that the National Assembly of Pakistan would be hosting the 45th Annual Forum of the PGA, alongside the 13th Consultative Assembly of Parliamentarians on the International Criminal Court and the Rule of Law (CAP-ICC), from October 28-29, 2024, in Islamabad.

Parliamentarians congratulated Syed Naveed Qamar on his election to the prestigious office of PGA President, noting that his achievement is a source of pride not only for him but also for the entire parliament and the nation.

The parliamentarians expressed great interest in PGA’s activities and assured their full support towards making the October conference in Pakistan a success.

The meeting was attended by the Minister for Law & Justice, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, and parliamentarians from both Houses of Parliament, with the virtual presence of First Lady Ms. Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and other renowned parliamentarian.

Rs.1.1125b fine imposed on 11016 power pilferers during 334 days

FAISALABAD, Aug 08 (APP):Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) caught 11016 power pilferers during last 334 days and imposed a fine of over Rs.1.1125 billion for stealing electricity in six circles of the company during the ongoing special anti-power theft drive.
FESCO Spokesman Tahir Sheikh said here on Thursday that over 25.7 million detection units were charged and more than 10,832 cases were registered against power theft in various police stations.
The police arrested 8083 pilferers so far including 47 accused during past 24 hours in addition to recovering Rs 803.3 million from the power pilferers.
Giving further details, he said that the FESCO teams detected electricity theft at 2672 points in Faisalabad First Circle and imposed a fine of Rs.275.4 million on them under the head of 6362,000 detection units.
In Faisalabad Second Circle, the FESCO teams caught 2103 electricity thieves and imposed a fine of Rs.208.9 million under 5416,000 detection units.
Similarly, 1207 cases of electricity theft were detected in Jhang circle and the company handed down the power pilferers with a fine of Rs.118 million under 3459,000 detection units.
He further said that 1602 electricity thieves were caught from Sargodha circle and they were imposed a fine of Rs.163.9 million under 3538,000 detection units.
In Mianwali circle, 2740 consumers were found involved in electricity theft and they were handed down with a fine of Rs.261.1 million for 5341,000 detection units.
The FESCO teams also caught 692 power pilferers from Toba Tek Singh circle and they were fined with Rs.84.9 million for 1645,000 detection units, spokesman added.

LG elections in ICT to be held on Sept 29: ECP announces schedule

ISLAMABAD, Aug 8 (APP): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday announced schedule for conduct of Local Government (LG) elections in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

Public notice inviting nomination papers to be issued by the Returning Officers (ROs) on August 15 and the candidates could file their nomination papers with the ROs from August 16 to 20, said a notification issued here.

The name of nominated candidates would be published on August 21 while the ROs would scrutinize nominations papers
of the candidates from August 22 to 26.

The candidates could file appeals against the decisions of the ROs (accepting/rejecting the nomination papers) from August 27 to 29.

The revised list of the candidates would be published on September 4 while the last date for withdrawal of candidature and publication of revised list would be September 5. Symbols to the candidates would be allotted on September 6. Polling would be held on September 29, the notification added.

Polling hours will be observed from 08:00am to 05:00 pm.

Azadi Float to depart on August 10 for Lahore

RAWALPINDI, Aug 08 (APP):The Punjab government’s Azadi Float is in the final stage of completion at the Rawalpindi Arts Council, which will depart for Lahore on August 10.
Director Punjab Arts Council (PAC), Rawalpindi Sajjad Hussain while giving a briefing about the float on Thursday said
the float is 60 feet long, after covering a distance of more than 300km with stopovers at four cities, it will reach Minar-e-Pakistan on August 14.
He informed that entire representation of Pakistan has been shown on the float.
“Besides Minar Pakistan, the models of Quaid’s Residency in Balochistan, Khyber Pass in KP, Quaid’s mausoleum in Sindh, Legislative Assembly of Azad Kashmir and Bomburit Masjid in Gilgit-Baltistan have also been made. The height of  Minar e Pakistan model is 20 ft, whereas other models are 16 feet high approximately.
Sajjad informed that the float would start its journey from Rawalpindi on August 10, and after going around the city the whole night, it would reach Gujar Khan on August 11 in the morning and would reach Jhelum city on the same day.
The float would reach Gujrat on August 12 and Gujranwala on August 13 as its stopovers.
Colorful programs would be presented in the cities wherever the float would stop, in which people from all walks of life would participate in large number, he added.
“On August 14, the float would reach Minar e Pakistan, where a ceremony would be held under the chairmanship of CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in which traditional dances of all provinces would be performed in addition to national songs”, he said.
Former Director Rawalpindi Arts Council, Waqar Ahmed said that PAC prepares floats for 23rd March Parade each year, generally it takes 30 to 45 days to complete it but this float is being prepared in 10 days.
