LAHORE, Jan 30 (APP):The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday reserved its verdict on a petition, filed by former chief minister Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi for allotment of ‘peacock’ electoral symbol, on conclusion of arguments by the parties.
The single bench comprising Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan heard the petition filed by the former chief minister Punjab.
During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel argued that his client was contesting election from provincial assembly constituency PP-32. He submitted that an application was filed for allotment of a peacock electoral symbol but the returning officer refused to accept the application and allotted a donkey-cart electoral symbol to his client. He pleaded with the court to issue directions for allotment of peacock electoral symbol.
However, the counsel for the Election Commission argued that the commission had notified that the electoral symbols would not be changed. He submitted that the ballot papers had been printed and it was not possible to print them again. If the symbols were changed then the election would not be possible in such constituencies on February 8, he added. He further submitted that the petitioner might have approached the returning officer with a delay for change of the symbol.

FAISALABAD, Jan 30 (APP):Former Interior Minister/Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Punjab President Rana Sanaullah Khan on Tuesday said the PML-N would form government at center and provincial level with heavy public mandate.
Addressing a corner meeting during his election campaign in his constituency NA-100 (Faisalabad-VI) in Chak No.81-JB Panduri here, he said the PML-N was a pro-people party which always strived hard to save Pakistan from crises.
He said that Pakistan was making speedy progress during 2017 when under a calculated move, the PML-N government was ousted and an incompetent man was clamped on the nation. This man (PTI founder) divided the nation and promoted the culture of hate and hatred in addition to implicating his political opponents in false and fabricated cases. “A similar bogus case of heroin was also registered against me but it was never proved,” he added.
He said that due to ill-conceived policies of PTI government, the country plunged into deep economic crisis which resulted in uncontrolled inflation in the country and made the life of common man very miserable.
He said that the people should once again pose confidence in the leadership of PML-N and it would surely drag Pakistan out of prevailing crises as it saved the country from unprecedented load shedding and terrorism during 2013.
He said that at present the country was experiencing multifaceted problems but price hike was the major issue today. However, it was not a problem bigger than the terrorism, he added.
He said the PML-N government under dynamic leadership of Nawaz Sharif overcame the menace of terrorism which was rampant in the country during 2013. The PML-N would also resolve the problem of price hike on top priority basis after winning the General Election 2024, he added.
He asked the people to come out of their houses on 8th February and support the PML-N so that it could form its federal and provincial governments with thumping majority.
He also asked the area people to vote for him during the general election and assured them to redress their genuine problems on top priority basis.

NCRC drafts legislative bill against child labor

0
ISLAMABAD, Jan 30 (APP):The National Child Rights Commission (NCRC) has drafted a comprehensive piece of legislation aimed at preventing child domestic labor.
The consultation on the proposed ‘Child Domestic Labour Draft Bill’ was held in a local hotel of  the federal capital. Esteemed stakeholders, including representatives from UNICEF, ILO, Ministry of Human Rights and various other organizations, gathered to contribute their expertise and insights, said a press release issued by the law ministry. The event was graced by the presence of Ms. Ayesha Raza, the Chairperson of the National Child Rights Commission (NCRC).
The issue is exacerbated by child labor in various sectors such as brick kilns, carpet factories, and the ominous nexus of narcotic terrorism. Children engaged in domestic labor are subjected to health risks, rights violations, disrupted education, and exposure to violence and brutality.
Recognizing the gravity of this issue, the NCRC has taken an admirable initiative by drafting a comprehensive piece of legislation aimed at preventing and regulating child domestic labor.
The proposed bill takes a bold stance by criminalizing child domestic labor, marking it as a non-bailable offense.      Furthermore, it seeks to establish a uniform child rights legislation applicable across the entire country of Pakistan.
One of the key provisions emphasizes the urgent need to set a uniform age for children, aligning with the spirit of the Child Rights Convention, i.e., 18 years.
The Secretary Law, in acknowledgement of the significance of the cause, also attended the event. Additionally, the Ministry of Law and Justice has pledged its full support to facilitate the enactment of the Child Domestic Labour Law to address the multifaceted challenges posed by child labor. The proposed legislation aims to go beyond being merely punitive; it seeks to fully incorporate the commitments made in the Child Rights Convention.
As the consultation concludes, there is a shared sense of urgency among stakeholders to expedite the legislative process. The commitment of all participants signals a united front against child domestic labor. The proposed child domestic labour draft bill represents a significant milestone in Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to safeguard the rights and future of its children.
