More than eight million people registered to vote in Multan division

MULTAN, Jan 29 (APP):More than eight million people are registered to cast a vote across the division comprising four districts, Multan, Vehari, Khanewal and Lodhran in the Feb 8 elections, an official source informed Monday.
As per the given statistics provided by the local election commission office, an overall 809,725,9 voters are enlisted to cast votes here in the upcoming general election.
As per the detail, about 311,019,1 voters among 164,049,7 (52.75%) male and 1469, 694 (47.25%) female voters are registered respectively in district Multan.
In Vehari, the total number of votes is registered as 1929211 with 1048074 (54.33%) males and 881,137 (45.67%) females respectively.
District Khanewal enlists 1942, 633 voters to the bifurcation of 1043272 (53.10%) as males and 899, 361 (46.30%) as females.
District Lodhran has a sum of the registered votes of around 1115,22,4. It’s the male figure fixed with 597, 961 (53.62%) and 517, 263 (46.38%) as females.
Regional Election Commissioner, Ch. Nadeem Qasim said that they’re keeping track of voter registration statistics across the region.
He said all votes are registered with care and following a set code of procedure by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

PFA seals one food outlet, imposes fine

ATTOCK, Jan 29 (APP): To control adulteration and sale of substandard food stuff, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) carried out raids in various bazaars and markets of Attock city on Monday.
PFA officials said that a special food safety team, under the supervision of Director Operations Amna Rafeeq has carried out surprise visit of various restaurants and bakery manufacturing units operating in the city and sealed a bakery production unit overutilization of substandard food items, poor storage system, wrong labelling, usage of blue drums and poor sanitation.
The raiding team also discovered the presence of insects, unavailability of record and medical certificates of its workers and improper cleanliness arrangements; subsequently the production unit was sealed. Food items weighing to 220 kilogram was also destroyed during the raid.
The spokesman has said that the team also imposed fine worth over 0.160 million over two restaurant and one bakery production unit over poor hygienic condition.

Dera’s Rescue 1122 service handles 174 emergencies last week

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Jan 29 (APP):The district’s emergency service- Rescue 1122 provided services in a total of 174 emergencies during the last week under the supervision of District Emergency Officer Awais Babar.
According to the weekly performance report issued here on Monday, Rescue 1122 tackled different kinds of emergencies over the week including 145 medical, 24 road accidents, one fire eruption and three violence.
It said that the service received a total of 18869 emergency calls including 15889 fake or irrelevant calls.
He said that Rescue 1122 also tackled 23 referral-related emergencies including 22 within the district while in one emergency patients were shifted to hospitals in other districts.
The service spokesman says that the rescue 1122 teams are always fully equipped with all necessary equipment and have been efficiently rendering their services during emergencies.

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29 (APP):Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) conducted on Monday sealed a factory allegedly involved in the production of counterfeit veterinary medicine in Lahore.
The operation was conducted in the Iqbal Town area, leading to confiscated evidence including crucial records and bogus documents, according to an FIA spokesperson.
He said the agency acted swiftly on information provided by a key suspect apprehended earlier associated with the factory leading them to the main office in Iqbal Town, a private news channel reported.

Breastfeeding awareness drives safest way of preventing outbreak of ‘Pneumonia cases’: Minister

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29 (APP):Punjab Caretaker Health Minister Professor Javed Akram Monday expressed that the low rate of breastfeeding is a major cause of the pneumonia deaths among kids.
Talking to a private news channel, he said that lack of breastfeeding can also result in stunted growth in children and so the health department is taking steps to encourage this feeding and nursing of infants in early ages.
To another question, he said that the Punjab has reported around 17,000 pneumonia cases so far this, with a mortality rate of 1.3 percent.
He said media need to run massive awareness campaigns to educate the public about benefits of mother feed and for timely vaccination.
“A majority of victims of pneumonia are malnourished kids with low immunity,” he said, adding, mothers must breast-feed their children to boost their immunity against such diseases.
Minister for Health said that malnutrition and promotion of breastfeeding remained a top priority agenda of the current government as relevant ministries and departments have been endlessly engaged in efforts to address the issue of malnutrition and to control Pneumonia cases.
Replying to a question, he said the there was rise in pneumonia cases in Punjab to the prevalent winter season resulting air pollution, especially smog. Smog, a consequence of air pollution, has been identified as a significant factor contributing to the spike in pneumonia cases.
The minister added that the situation is improving with the intensity of the winter season subsides in the coming months.

Education institutions play vital role against drug addiction among students

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29 (APP):Consultant, Anti Drugs & Narcotics Campaign Syed Zulfiqar Hussain Monday expressed his serious fear over the rising number of drug addiction among students and called for taking up necessary steps for prevention of drug use as it has emerged as a serious threat in the present digital lives of society.
Talking to the PTV news channel, he said that earlier the problem used to prevail among males, but now it has spread among females and children in our country in an alarming proportion, adding, that there is a dire need to urgently combat the situation with the coordination efforts of academic institutions.
He said that it is not just self-interest habit but motivation by their near one and friends’ company which was the most important factor, which led to the drug use.
He said addiction to narcotics must be eradicated from its roots to safeguard the youth and prosperity of the country, adding, that drug use can be reduced through public awareness seminars and campaigns.
Experts recommended there should be awareness of the dangerous effects of narcotics in the youth of Pakistan.
He said that appropriate treatment facilities should also be established for children and female drug users.
The problem of drug abuse is likely to explode in the next decade, particularly affecting children under age 14, adding, that the impact of the increasing drug abuse will be seen in both urban and rural areas of the country due to the busy schedules of parents and excessive use of digital gadgets.
He said the adverse effects of drug abuse are immense and it not only harms the brain but other organs of the body which soon loses immunity to fight disease.
The individual cannot lead a productive life for himself, his family or society and hence one should guard oneself against drugs, he added.
“Education is only best weapon against drugs”, he added.
“Children need to be taught about the dangers of consuming drugs”, he mentioned.
 He said that the government is collaborating with non-government organizations, including educational institutes, to raise awareness among people, especially youngsters, about the harmful effects of drugs on society.
Replying to a question, he explained that there is a problem in the family’s communication with the children, adding,
all busy with other things such as chatting through their mobile phones.
  We believe that the modern communication systems have created a sort of isolation with the family,” he said.
  “There is a need for strong communication between the parents and the children”, he advised.

ECP sets up 15,697 polling stations in KP

PESHAWAR, Jan 29 (APP):The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has set up 15,697 polling stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to a summary released here.
There were 4,810 polling stations for men and 4,289 for women while 6,601 were the combined polling stations.
Apart from this, the ECP has also established 47077 polling booths including 26,147 male and 20,930 female.

The workshop will be held at the Women Resource Centre and Incubation LG-1 Vogue Tower, Lahore, according to a source in the authority.
The training program will provide information about introduction to HRM, HRM planning process, recruitment and selection, team development strategies, and integrating HRM into the overall management system.
It also highlights capacity building through training and coaching, performance management, and retention strategies and success planning.
The session would be attended by emerging and existing women entrepreneurs, small business owners and CEOs of women businesses, and all those desirous of improving knowledge on the subject.

CTD arrests street criminals linked to robbery-related murders

KARACHI, Jan 29 (APP):The Sindh Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) apprehended two suspected street criminals on Monday, accused of fatally shooting citizens who resisted robbery attempts.
The arrests, made within the Model Colony police station’s jurisdiction, resulted in the recovery of two pistols and ammunition.
As per the CTD Sindh spokesperson, the detainees, identified as Waleed and Raheem Babar, have admitted to their involvement in numerous street crimes.
They confessed to the murder of Fahad during a robbery altercation on August 15th, 2023, within the Tipu Sultan police station’s jurisdiction.
Additionally, they confessed to the killing of Allah Ditta during a street crime in the PIB Colony on November 21st, 2023. Both incidents had been formally documented by the respective police stations.
Before their recent apprehension, the accused had a history of criminal activity and had previously served jail time.
A case has been filed at the CTD police station, and the recovered weapons have been dispatched for forensic analysis. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

NCGSA, IST to hold First National CanSat Competition

ISLAMABAD, Jan 29 (APP): National Center of GIS and Space Applications (NCGSA), Institute of Space Technology (IST) Islamabad, Pakistan is organizing the First National CanSat Competition to design, develop and launch the student satellite (CanSat) model.

An official of IST informed that high school, college and university students will participate in the competition that would be held between February-April.

The competition is a part of the efforts towards Space Technology Education and Popularization (STEP) through STEM education.

The competition will be held in multiple phases (online/onsite), while the final phase will be held at IST, Islamabad by the end of April.

The competition has been designed for teams from Abecedarian (Grade 9 – 12 / O / A levels) and Virtuoso (Undergraduate BS) groups.

Each team may consist of 2-4 students along with one Team Lead as a faculty member, the official informed.

The STEM investment is PKR 5000 per team. The winners will be awarded cash awards of PKR 100,000 and PKR 50,000 for each group (Abecedarian and Virtuoso) along with winning and participation certificates.
