Islamabad police boosts officer well-being with free medical camp

ISLAMABAD, Jan 28 (APP):In order to prioritize the health and well-being of Islamabad Capital Police (ICP) officials, a dedicated one-day medical camp was organized on Sunday at the Traffic Police Office.
Spearheaded by Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, the Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO), the initiative aimed to enhance both the mental and physical health of officers, shielding them from potential diseases, an ICP spokesman said.
The initiative of Dr Akbar Niazi Hospital featured a range of health activities, psychological tests, and checkups. The officers and officials of ICP underwent thorough examinations, receiving valuable advice and medications to enhance their overall health.
Dr Ghulam Mujtaba Abbasi, the Executive Director, along with Director Arij Niazi and other medical professionals from Akbar Niazi Hospital actively participated in the camp and their expertise contributed significantly to the success of the initiative.
The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Islamabad also checked himself at the medical camp. Expressing gratitude to the executive director for organizing the event, he acknowledged the importance of such initiatives in safeguarding the health of the police force. Commending the dedication of the medical team, he affirmed that the Islamabad Capital Police remain committed to ensuring the well-being of its officers and staff.
The CTO emphasized that the Islamabad Capital Police is steadfast in its commitment to maintaining the physical and mental health of its officers and jawans. He pledged to continue organizing similar health-focused activities in the future, ensuring a sustained effort toward improved well-being.
The officers and employees present at the camp took a moment to express their gratitude to the medical team. The collective thanks echoed the sentiment that such initiatives not only enhance health but also foster a sense of appreciation and camaraderie within the police force.

LESCO detects 406 power pilferers in 24 hours

LAHORE, Jan 28 (APP):Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has detected a total of 406 connections from where the customers were pilfering electricity in all its circles of five districts (Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur and Okara) on the 141st day of grand anti-power theft campaign.
The LESCO spokesman told media here Sunday that the company has also submitted FIR applications against 405 electricity thieves, out of which 173 FIRs have been registered in respective police stations, while two accused have been arrested.
Grand anti-power theft operations against electricity thieves are being conducted on the directives of the Federal Power Division and the LESCO Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Engineer Shahid Haider is supervising these operations. The LESCO chief vowed that the operations would continue without discrimination until the complete end of electricity theft. The electricity pilferers as well as the LESCO officers and employees who facilitate them are also being brought to justice.
On the 141st consecutive day of the anti-power theft campaign, the spokesman added, large commercial consumers were also found involved in electricity theft and all of them were also disconnected and charged with detection units. Among the seized connections 13 were commercial, 02 agricultural, 01 industrial and 390 domestic, and all these connections were disconnected and charged with a total of 330,607 units as detection bill amounting to Rs 9.423 million.
Apprising the media about some major power pilferers, he explained that LESCO charged Rs 200,000 detection to an electricity pilferer in Johar Town; Rs 175,000 fine in the form of detection bill to a customer stealing electricity in Alahabad; Rs 170,000 and Rs 130,000 detection bills respectively to two power thieves in Shahdara Town.
During the 141 days of grand anti-theft campaign, the spokesman mentioned, the LESCO detected pilferage on 48,900 power connections and submitted 48,434 FIR applications against electricity thieves in the relevant police stations out of which 45,563 FIRs have been registered, while 17,421 accused have so far been arrested by the police. The LESCO has so far charged a total of 69,414,387 detection units worth Rs 2,680,563,479 to all the power pilferers.

FIH Hockey5s World Cup: Pakistan win one, lose one

ISLAMABAD, Jan 28 (APP): Pakistan’s joy of celebrating a thumping victory against Nigeria in their opening match of the FIH Hockey5s World Cup Oman 2024 was short-lived as the team fell down fighting hard against the Netherlands in their second match of the day in Muscat on Sunday.

Pakistan launched their campaign in the FIH Hockey5s World Cup Oman 2024 on a winning note, thrashing Nigeria 11-5.
Captain Rana Abdul Waheed Ashraf scored five goals, including a hat-trick, while Abdul Hanan Shahid chipped in with four goals, including a hat-trick. Arshad Liaquat and Zikriya Hayat scored one goal apiece, according to the information made available here by Pakistan Hockey Federation.

Nigeria’s Solomon Dennis scored two goals, while Ibrahim Benjamin, Godwin Sunday and John Peter scored one goal each.

In their second pool match against the Netherlands, Pakistan gained an edge in the 5th minute when Ghazanfar Ali
scored a splendid field goal. But Alexander Schop ended the lead in the 10th minute. At the start of the second quarter, Pakistan’s captain Rana Abdul Waheed re-established Pakistan’s superiority once again. However, Netherlands’ Van Der Drift Yannick equalized the scoreline in the 20th minute.

One minute later, Alexander netted another field to give his side a lead. Pakistan’s Abdullah scored a scintillating field goal in the 23rd minute to make it 3-3.

But Middendorp Lucas(25th minute and Alexander (30th  minute) scored two more goals for their side to hand Pakistan 3-5 defeat.

Sixteen teams, divided into four pools are featuring in the event. Pakistan are in Pool A along with Nigeria, the Netherlands and Poland.

Pakistan will play their third pool match against Poland on Monday.

The tournament is the first-ever Hockey5s World Championship, organized by International Hockey Federation and played with a different format of five players on each side.

Two injured Pakistanis in Iran to be discharged soon: Ambassador

ISLAMABAD, Jan 28 (APP): Pakistan’s ambassador to Iran Muhammad Mudassir Sunday said two Pakistanis injured in a terror incident in Iran will be discharged soon from the hospital while the third citizen required more treatment.

In a post on X, he said “Our Consul in Zahidan reached hospital & met our three brave and hardworking Pakistanis whose sacrifices I salute. Glad that 2 will soon be discharged while our third brother will require more treatment. Pakistan firmly stands with them and does whatever is required for their well-being.”

Rain likely in Lahore on Tuesday

LAHORE, Jan 28 (APP):The Meteorological Department on Sunday predicted rain in Upper Punjab including Lahore on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 30-31.
So far no rain system has hit the plains of Punjab. According to weather forecasters, there is a possibility of heavy rain and snowfall on the mountains on January 30 and 31, including rain in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Sargodha and other cities, which will also reduce seasonal diseases.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued instructions to the district authorities concerned to remain alert in view of rains and snowfall.

ECP releases summary of polling stations for elections 2024

LAHORE, Jan 28 (APP):The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released the summary of polling scheme for general election 2024.
According to the ECP local chapter sources, a total of 90,675 polling stations have been established across the country. There will be a total of 25,320 polling stations for men and 23,950 for women, while there will be 41,405 combined polling stations.
According to the summary, there will be 50,944 polling stations in Punjab, out of which 14,556 will be for men, and 14,036 for women, while 22,352 polling stations would be for both men and women. There will be 19,060 polling stations in Sindh, including 4,439 male polling stations, 4,308 female polling stations and 10,259 joint polling stations.
Similarly, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa will have 15,697 polling stations, including 4,814 male polling stations, 4,289 female polling stations, and 6,594 combined polling stations. Also, 5028 polling stations have been established in Balochistan: 1,511 for men, and 1,317 for women, while there will be 2,200 joint polling stations in the province.
The Election Commission says that there will be 276,402 polling booths across the country, including 147,560 polling booths for men and 127,842 polling booths for women.
There will be 149,434 polling booths in Punjab, 65,005 polling booths in Sindh, 47,081 polling booths in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 14,882 polling booths in Balochistan.

Cultural diplomacy essential to promote soft image: Deputy Chairman Senate

WAH CANTT, Jan 28 (APP): Senator Mirza Muhammad Afridi, the Deputy Chairman of the Senate on Sunday stated that cultural diplomacy is essential to advancing the rich and historic cultural legacy globally.

He expressed his views while talking to media representatives at the traditional orange festival hosted by the Zaildar family, led by Syed Zaheer Shah and Syed Ahsan Shah. To foster a more cordial atmosphere among the diplomatic community and their families, this celebration was organized. The occasion also sought to draw attention to and promote Taxila’s rich cultural heritage.

He further said that events such as the Orange Festival are a great way to introduce the diplomatic community to Pakistan’s people, culture, and history. The time, he added, had come for Pakistan to showcase its riches and its distinctive orange and mango through international exhibitions.

On this occasion, foreign diplomats were treated to a show that included Taxila’s well-known game of “Rock Lifting” and traditional “Horse Dancing.” The audience was amazed by the talent of the locals and cheered the exhibition of both. More than 70 countries’ ambassadors and delegates attended the event, which featured a vibrant display of Taxila’s most well-known cultural features. Diplomats shared their opinions, saying that this festival had allowed them to see firsthand the splendour of Pakistani customs and culture.

DEO Rescue-1122 seeks plan for elections in two days

MUZAFFARGARH, Jan 28 (APP):District Emergency Officer (DEO) Punjab Emergency Service Rescue-1122, Dr Hussain Mian sought plans from all station incharges regarding the general elections 2024 within two days.
Presiding over a meeting to review the six-month performance of all stations on Sunday, the district emergency officer said that code red would remain active during the elections to deal with any emergency-like situation. He said that all staff of the district would be on duty during the election process while staff along with rescue volunteers would make a comprehensive plan to quick response at any polling station.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Hussain Mian said that it was the top priority to prepare policies for controlling increasing accidents. He said that all concerned departments would be intimated in advance about the expected hazards.
The incharges of all stations gave a detailed briefing to the district emergency officer about the performance, available equipment and services on which he expressed satisfaction on the performance across the district.
