Four killed in a road accident near Sukkur

SUKKUR, Aug 23 (APP):At least four people, including a woman, were killed in a truck-car collision on the M5 Motorway in Pano Aqil area, Sukkur district, on Friday.
According to rescue officials, a car was going from Sukkur to Multan when it collided with the truck coming from the opposite side.
Soon after the incident was reported, the rescue teams reached the site and shifted bodies and injured people to the Taluka headquarters hospital for medico-legal proceedings.
It is to be mentioned here that at least eight people have been killed and ten others have received injuries as a result of the collision between a passenger bus and trailer truck on the Sukkur-Multan motorway this week.

PFA collects Rs 603m fine in five months

LAHORE, Aug 23 (APP):Under the directives of Punjab chief minister, a rigorous inspection regime is in place to ensure provision of high-quality food to the public.
Since March, a total of 474,772 food businesses have been inspected, leading to imposition of fines amounting to Rs 603 million.
In the crackdown on violations, 1,337 food units have been shut down, and 508 cases have been filed. Additionally, a significant quantity of contaminated products has been confiscated, including 853,000 liters of adulterated milk, 272,772 kilograms of meat, 37,561 kilograms of spices, 53,700 kilograms of substandard ghee, 14,000 kilograms of pulses, and 290,900 liters of contaminated water and beverages.
In a statement issued here on Friday, Director General of the Food Authority Asim Javed emphasized that strict surveillance is maintained across Punjab on food preparation and distribution businesses.
Penalties have been imposed on food points violating health and safety regulations. Asim Javed, Director General of the Food Authority, highlighted that poor sanitary conditions and the use of prohibited, substandard ingredients were discovered in some establishments.
Surprise inspections are being conducted at various establishments including small and large restaurants, fast food outlets, dairy shops, confectioneries, and snack units.
Food operators are being instructed on essential practices such as covering food items, using filtered water, and adhering to food-grade materials.
Asim Javed assured that there will be no compromise on ensuring that every resident of Punjab has access to nutritious, quality food. A complete ban on the use of prohibited ingredients is enforced, and any violations will be dealt with strictly.

PHA launches plan for establishing commercial nurseries

LAHORE, Aug 23 (APP):Lahore’s Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has initiated a comprehensive plan to establish commercial nurseries at various locations throughout the city.
As part of this initiative, the second-largest commercial nursery in Lahore will be developed at Racecourse Park. PHA has already commenced construction work for the new commercial nursery, which will feature an array of exotic, rare, and high-value plants at the Jillani Park nursery.
This nursery will offer a wide selection of indoor and outdoor plants, shrubs, and other ornamental flowers. These plants will be sold at discounted rates to gardening enthusiasts and the private sector.
Prior to this, PHA successfully had established a commercial nursery in Gulberg, where flowers such as Zinnia, Cosmos, Jasmine, and Roses are currently available for purchase.
In a statement, Director General of PHA Muhammad Tahir Wattoo said the establishment of the Race Course Nursery is part of a broader plan to increase revenue. PHA achieved a historic profit of 2.5 billion rupees in the last fiscal year, with revenue doubling the previous year’s targets due to an effective strategy.

FIA busts gang running illegal currency exchange

LAHORE, Aug 23 (APP):The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Corporate Crime Circle Lahore has busted a well-organized gang involved in illegal currency exchange business.
According to a spokesman for the agency, a crackdown directed by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi, has resulted in the seizure of both domestic and foreign currencies worth millions.
Four suspects were arrested during the ongoing operations. The detainees were identified as Mohammad Tahir, Usman Ali, Khurram Shehzad, and Usman Majid. They were captured in a raid conducted in the DHA area of Lahore.
The operation has yielded over Rs 16.3 million in cash. Additionally, authorities recovered 34,980 British Pounds, 15,800 US Dollars, 11,660 Euros, 120,945 Turkish Lira, 2,500 Qatari Riyals, 392 Omani Riyals, and 774 Malaysian Ringgits from the suspects.
The arrested individuals were found operating an unlicensed currency exchange business and were unable to provide satisfactory explanations for the origin of the seized currency.

Commissioner calls on divisional heads of Forest, Health departments

SARGODHA, Aug 23 (APP):Commissioner Sargodha Division Jahanzeb Awan met Director Health Dr Rana Muhammad Riaz and Divisional Forest Officer Maher Muhammad Asif at his office on Friday.
The officials discussed administrative and operational matters related to their respective departments. Chief Executive Officer Health Authority Dr. Asad Islam, District Forest Officer Nisar-ul-Haq, ACG Hafiz Abdul Mannan, and ACR  Malik Muhammad Ashraf were also present.
The meeting was told by Director Health Dr Rana Muhammad Riaz that the Punjab government was committed to providing excellent healthcare facilities to the public, with a focus on quality medicines and medical staff presence in government hospitals. He also highlighted the importance of polio eradication and dengue prevention efforts.
He directed that the implementation of SOPs (standard operating procedures) should be ensured to provide the efficient healthcare services. Public hospitals shold maintain cleanliness standards without compromise, the commissioner said.
About Forest-related matters, DFO Maher Muhammad Asif informed the commissioner that the department has a total area of 156,912 acres in all four districts. He said that a total of 866,000 saplings were available in forest department nurseries. The commissioner emphasized that forest preservation is crucial for our survival. Forest officers should plan strategically, considering weather conditions and other factors, to maximize tree plantation, he advised.

Regional Federal Ombudsman decides cases related to SEPCO & SSGC

SUKKUR, Aug 23 (APP):On the instructions of Federal Ombudsman Ejaz Ahmed Qureshi, the Federal Ombudsman Sukkur Regional head, Syed Mahmood Ali Shah on Friday heard the petitions received against Sukkur Electric Supply Company (SEPCO) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) in Larkana.
Decisions were made on the applications while the remaining 2 applications were referred to NEPRA, in addition, decisions were issued on 15 applications filed against Sui Southern Gas Company.
Shah further instructed the officials of the concerned departments to implement the decisions issued by the affected applicants as soon as possible and not to do injustice to anyone while strict action will be taken against the violators of the order. SSGC Deputy Manager, Saeed Ahmed Korejo and the complainants participated.

Peace committee meeting held

SARGODHA, Aug 23 (APP):A meeting of the Divisional Peace Committee, under the chairmanship of Commissioner Sargodha Division Jahanzeb Awan, was held on Friday here.
MNA Malik Shakir Bashir Awan, Deputy Commissioner Capt (retd) Muhammad Waseem and DPO Dr Asad Ijaz Malhi, besides deputy commissioners, DPOs of other districts participated in the meeting through video-link. Members of the peace committee also participated.
The commissioner welcomed the scholars and appreciated their efforts to establish peace across the division.  Jahanzaib Awan said maintaining peace on 10th of Muharram is the result of the efforts of the members of the peace committees, along with the administrative and security institutions.
He said that the same spirit should be maintained for peaceful holding of processions of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS).  The commissioner said scholars should continue to take measures for further promotion of tolerance, unity, patience and brotherhood, and the code of conduct should be followed.
The meeting was told that 42 Chehlam processions and 61 majalis would held in the four districts. All administrative and security arrangements have been completed. Scholars of all schools of thought are on the same page for the establishment of peace.  The scholars expressed their views and said that there are different sects in the papers, but as Muslims and Pakistanis, we are all on the same page for the establishment of peace in this country.
