Peace committee meeting held

SARGODHA, Aug 23 (APP):A meeting of the Divisional Peace Committee, under the chairmanship of Commissioner Sargodha Division Jahanzeb Awan, was held on Friday here.
MNA Malik Shakir Bashir Awan, Deputy Commissioner Capt (retd) Muhammad Waseem and DPO Dr Asad Ijaz Malhi, besides deputy commissioners, DPOs of other districts participated in the meeting through video-link. Members of the peace committee also participated.
The commissioner welcomed the scholars and appreciated their efforts to establish peace across the division.  Jahanzaib Awan said maintaining peace on 10th of Muharram is the result of the efforts of the members of the peace committees, along with the administrative and security institutions.
He said that the same spirit should be maintained for peaceful holding of processions of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS).  The commissioner said scholars should continue to take measures for further promotion of tolerance, unity, patience and brotherhood, and the code of conduct should be followed.
The meeting was told that 42 Chehlam processions and 61 majalis would held in the four districts. All administrative and security arrangements have been completed. Scholars of all schools of thought are on the same page for the establishment of peace.  The scholars expressed their views and said that there are different sects in the papers, but as Muslims and Pakistanis, we are all on the same page for the establishment of peace in this country.

Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ project registration begins in Lodhran

LODHRAN, Aug 23 (APP):The district administration has started registration process for ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ housing project, launched by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for low-income families.
District-level registration centres has been set up at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Lodhran, while tehsil-level centres have been established in the offices of the assistant commissioners. An online portal for the project has also been launched by the chief minister for online registration and information. People could get registered for the project or obtain information from the registration centres at the DC office in Lodhran or assistant commissioners’ offices in Dunyapur, Lodhran, and Kahror Pacca tehsils.
Additionally, people of Lodhran could apply through the online portal available at acag.punjab.gov.pk.
For more information about ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’ programme, citizens could call helpline number 0800-09100.
The criteria set regarding the project included the applicant must be head of the family as per NADRA record, a permanent resident of Punjab as per CNIC and the sole owner of up to 5-marla land in urban areas, or up to 10-marla in rural areas.
The applicant must not have a criminal record. Additionally, the applicant should not be indebted to any bank or institution. The household must be registered in NSER, and the PMT score should be less than 60.

NHMP shifted five semi-conscious passengers to hospital, 4 died

ISLAMABAD, Aug 23 (APP):The National Highway and Motorway Police on Friday found five people lifeless near Bhera interchange on the Motorway.
According to NHMP North Zone spokesman Muhammad Saqib, while patrolling the NHMP received a call that a Honda car was parked alongside the road.
Upon approaching the car to offer assistance, the NHMP found five individuals in a semi-conscious state and immediately shifted them to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Bhera for medical treatment.
During the treatment, four people died and one was in an unconscious condition, the spokesman informed.
According to doctors, the death cause could be food poisoning, he said and added that the deceased have been identified as Romila, 60, Mahwish, 30, Samar, 28, and Aun, 4.
The travelers were residents of Lahore and were going to Islamabad from Lahore.

Young foreign service officers visit Pakistan’s ambassador in Brussels

BRUSSELS, Aug 23 (APP): A group of young officers from the Foreign Service of Pakistan (FSP), currently undergoing diplomatic training at Clingendael Institute in the Netherlands, called on Pakistan’s Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, and Luxembourg Amna Baloch.

Ambassador Baloch extended a warm welcome to the young officers and congratulated them on their recent induction into the prestigious Foreign Service of Pakistan, a press release issued here on Friday said.

She expressed her confidence in their ability to represent and advance Pakistan’s interests on the global stage, emphasizing the crucial role they will play in the country’s diplomatic efforts.

In her address, Ambassador Baloch provided the officers with an insightful briefing on the roles and responsibilities of the Embassy.

She shared her own experiences and offered a comprehensive overview of the current state and future prospects of Pakistan’s relationships with the European Union, Belgium, Luxembourg and NATO.

She encouraged the officers to remain informed and actively engage with the ever-changing landscape of international relations, particularly in relation to key partners such as the EU.

Sukkur receives light showers

SUKKUR, Aug 23 (APP):As the sky remained overcast throughout the day, several areas received a small amount of rainfall on Thursday night, said a local Met official while forecasting similar weather conditions for Friday as well.
The weatherman added that scattered rain/thunder showers were expected in Sukkur divisions on Saturday.
He said, the maximum temperature recorded was 35 degrees Celsius. About the Sunday forecast, he said that the weather was expected to remain partly cloudy/cloudy with chances of rain/thunderstorm.

Five power pilferers booked

SARGODHA, Aug 23 (APP):The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) caught five power pilferers during an ongoing crackdown here on Friday.
According to official sources, a task-force conducted raids in various areas of the district and caught the accused stealing electricity directly from the main line, and through meter tampering.
The teams imposed Rs 6,663 fine on power pilferers. On the report of FESCO, the police registered cases against pilferers.

Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S.) rendered supreme sacrifices for humanity,

SUKKUR, Aug 23 (APP):Prominent figure, ex-consultant of the Sukkur Ombudsman office, Major (Retired) Ali Munim has said that Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) and his devotees rendered supreme sacrifices for humanity, justice and righteousness.
Talking in a session, in connection with Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain AS on Friday, he said that the teachings of Islam are centered on social supervision in the community, the call for good, and the avoidance of corruption and selfishness. During his journey from Medina to Mecca and then to Karbala, Imam Hussein worked to revive religious teachings.
Munim said that Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) emphasized in his statements that the reason for his uprising was to revive the higher teachings of Islam and the true practice of his grandfather Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his descendants.
He said the incident of Karbala was a struggle for justice against cruelties and barbarism.
He said Hazrat Imam Hussain (A.S) was an Imam of the whole Muslim Ummah and not for a particular sect. He kept Islam alive with his sacrifice at Karbala and there was a great message of humanity for the whole world in it, he added.
Imam Hussain (A.S) taught Muslim Ummah to support the truth and justice and not to compromise on the teachings of Islam, he said.
Major Retired Ali Munim said Imam Hussain (A.S) did not fight to grab the reins of power but for the rule of law.
He thought that it was our collective responsibility to highlight the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (A.S) and urged the parents to let their children know about the incident of Karbala.
He said Hazrat Abbas (A.S) dedicated his life for the sake of saving Islam on the 10th Muharram 61 AH. He proposed people should follow such great personalities who laid their lives for humanity, to have a real change in their own lives.
He urged the media and the nation to raise voices against corruption, atrocities, and injustice. There was a dire need to promote tolerance amongst the nation at the moment.
He said the media, religious scholars, and civil society should play their due roles to eliminate hypocrisy from society as it has no place in Islam.

Second case of mpox virus infection detected in KP

PESHAWAR, Aug 23 (APP):Within a gap around one week, another case of Mpox virus infection has been detected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at Nowshera district.
According Director Public Health, Dr. Irshad Roghani, the infected person is 47 years old and belongs to Nowshera district.
The first case of mpox virus in KP during current year was conformed on August 15, 2014 at Mardan district.
In a video message shared here on Friday, Dr. Roghani said the infected person was detected at Peshawar airport on Thursday morning during screening of passengers coming from Gulf in an Air Arabia flight.
The screening team shifted the suspected patient to Police Hospital Peshawar for further examination and isolation.
After obtaining travel history of the patient, his blood tests were sent to Public Health Reference Laboratory of Khyber Medical University (KMU) which confirmed infection of mpox on Friday, said Director Public Health.
For genetic sequencing of mpox variant, blood sample has been sent to National Institute of Health Islamabad and finding will be shared with stakeholders including media, he added.
Dr. Roghani appreciated surveillance team over timely detection of case and isolation of patient from airport to prevent spread of the disease.
The patient is admitted at Police Hospital at isolation ward and is in good condition, he added.
Dr. Roghani said the infected patient worked as wielder and he used to live in an apartment shared by around seven persons.
The patients also shared that such symptoms were also visible in another person who lived with him in the same apartment.
On August 11, he felt fever and appearance of lesions on skin which kept on increasing. As he arrived at Peshawar, he was isolated and tested for mpox infection, Dr. Roghani continued.

PESHAWAR, Aug 23 (APP):Businessmen dealing in Pak-Afghan trade have demanded a two-month delay in the implementation of the recently enforced Temporary Admission Documentation (TAD) policy to allow clearance of the long queue of trucks standing on both sides of the border in wait of permission for goods delivery.
The demand was made during a meeting of the Pak-Afghan Liaison Committee held at the Directorate of Transit Trade Model Custom Collectorate with Additional Director Transit Trade, Dr. Tahir Iqbal Khattak.
According to a press release issued here on Friday, the meeting was attended by Coordinator Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI), Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi, Former SVP SCCI, Engr Manzoor Elahi, President Khyber Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Syed Jawad Hussain Kazmi, VP Frontier Custom Agents Association, Imtiaz Ahmad Ali, Commercial Attache Afghan Consulate, Waheedullah Himat, Transport Attache, Syed Muhammad Faiz, President North Waziristan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Qadirullah, and others.
Responding to demands made in the meeting, Additional Director of Transit Trade, Dr. Tahir Iqbal Khattak, assured the participants of taking action with mutual coordination and consultation with the business community for the resolution of all problems.
