Hidayatullah elected as chairman of Senate Committee on Narcotics Control

ISLAMABAD, Sep 15 (APP):Senator Hidayatullah Khan was elected unopposed as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Narcotics Control.
Senator Hidayatullah Khan was nominated for the position by Senator Ashraf Ali Jatoi and seconded by Senator Bilal Ahmed Khan.
In his remarks, the newly elected Chairman thanked the committee members for their confidence in him and assured them of his commitment to work as a team to combat the growing menace of narcotics in the country.
The committee members congratulated Senator Hidayatullah, expressing their confidence in his leadership and extending full support for the smooth functioning of the committee.
The meeting was attended by Senators Abdul Shakoor Khan, Ashraf Ali Jatoi, Bilal Ahmed Khan, Mir Dostain Khan Domki, and Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb.

KLESF International Challenge to be held from Nov 08-10

ISLAMABAD, Sep 15 (APP):The KLESF International Challenge 2024 will be organized in conjunction with the Kuala Lumpur Engineering Science Fair (KLESF) from November 08-10 in Kuala Lumpur.
The KLESF International Challenge will be held at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Center (MIECC), Kuala Lumpur.
The challenge is aimed at encouraging young minds to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Organized by the Kuala Lumpur Engineering Science Fair (KLESF), this challenge offers primary and secondary school students a platform to showcase their creativity and problem-solving skills through innovative STEM-related projects.
According to an official of the ECO Science Foundation (ECOSF), Pakistan, the challenge has been designed to enhance school students’ interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and unleash students’ innovative potential via their STEM projects.
This competition will help promote students’ skills in problem-solving, communication, thinking, and innovation and foster greater interaction for schools, educators, industries, and public and private sectors to share information and experiences on projects in STEM.
The schools students from Malaysia and overseas including Pakistan with STEM projects may participate in the KLESF International Challenge 2024 by demonstrating their projects to the public.
The competition will be held in two categories including Primary School (12 years old or below) and Secondary School (13-18 years old).
The project must address the sustainable development goals `Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3)’ and `Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11)’.
The prize-giving ceremony for the KLESF International Challenge will be held on November 10.

ED IBCC meets CM Balochistan to discuss education & exams reforms

ISLAMABAD, Sep 15 (APP):The Executive Director of the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) Dr Ghulam Ali Mallah met with the Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Sunday to discuss the latest educational reforms introduced by the Federal Ministry of Education and the exam reforms proposed by IBCC.
During the meeting, the ED IBCC also presented a copy of the IBCC Annual Report and a commemorative shield to the Chief Minister as a gesture of partnership and mutual commitment to education.
The Chief Minister appreciated the wide-ranging efforts by IBCC and expressed his support for enhancing the education system and exam processes in the province.
As part of the meeting, the Chief Minister agreed to hand over a government building to the IBCC, aimed at providing improved public access to IBCC services. This new facility will offer easier access for students and educational institutions across Balochistan.
This collaboration reflects a shared vision between the federal and provincial governments to uplift educational opportunities and streamline examination systems, ultimately benefiting the youth of Balochistan.

13 dead, 1,366 injured in Punjab road accidents

LAHORE, Sep 15 (APP):At least 13 people were killed and 1,366 others injured in 1,294 road accidents in Punjab during the last 24 hours.
As many as 585 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 781 with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by the rescue medical teams.
The data analysis showed that 738 drivers, 43 underage drivers, 168 pedestrians and 473 passengers were among victims of road accidents. The statistics showed that 246 accident were reported in Lahore, which affected 258 people, placing the provincial capital at top of the list, followed by Faisalabad with 105 accidents and 106 victims, and at third Multan with 83 accidents and 92 victims.
According to the data, 1,185 motorbikes, 66 auto-rickshaws, 119 motorcars, 23 vans, nine passenger buses, 27 trucks and 111 other types of vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in the road traffic accidents.

SUPARCO announces Poster Competition on “Space Travel” theme

ISLAMABAD, Sep 15 (APP):Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has announced the Poster Making Contest 2024 for students across the country under the theme of “Space Travel”, to showcase their creativity and skills.
Each year SUPARCO arranges Poster Competition as part of its participation in the Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF).
According to an official of SUPARCO, the contest is open to students aged 6 to 12, with eligibility determined based on birth dates between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2018.
Students from various schools across the country are encouraged to participate, with each school allowed to submit up to three posters.
About the guidelines, the official informed that the participants must adhere to specific guidelines to ensure their entries qualify for consideration.
Each poster must be the work of a single student and be submitted through their respective schools.
The deadline for submission is set for September 20, 2024, and no late entries will be accepted.
It is crucial for participants to follow the instructions carefully, including attaching a fully completed submission form to the back of the poster and ensuring no personal information appears on the front.
The competition seeks to encourage young artists to explore the theme of space travel using traditional art materials such as pencils, crayons, watercolors, and oils.
Explaining the rules of competition, the official said that the artwork must be submitted on flat paper, no smaller than A3 and no larger than A2, and should not incorporate digital tools, photo collages, or 3D objects. Posters must refrain from including text, signatures, flags, or references to any specific person, country, or organization.
Once submitted, the posters will become the property of SUPARCO. The winning entries will be selected to represent Pakistan at the international level in the APRSAF competition.
The results of the contest will be announced through SEAD’s Facebook page, and participants are urged to submit their entries well before the deadline to avoid disqualification.
