18 tourists swept away by flash flood in Swat river, 4 bodies recovered: DG Rescue 1122

SWAT, Jun 27 (APP):The Rescue 1122 teams on Friday recovered four bodies out of a total 18 tourists swept away by a powerful flash flood in the Swat River.
According to Director General of Rescue 1122 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shah Fahad, so far, rescue teams have recovered four bodies as the search and recovery operation continues.
Local residents reported that the victims were tourists visiting Swat, who got trapped near the bypass area and were carried away by the fast-moving water.
Following reports of the incident, Rescue 1122 launched a large-scale search operation. DG Shah Fahad stated that five different points along the river were currently being searched.
Around 80 personnel from Rescue 1122 were actively participating in the ongoing efforts, despite the dangerous water flow.
Authorities were urging tourists and locals to avoid visiting riverbanks and low-lying areas during the current monsoon conditions, as the risk of sudden flooding remains high.

Commissioner reviews progress of NSIC

Sargodha, Jun 27 (APP):Commissioner Sargodha Jahanzaib Awan on Friday visited the under-constructed project of Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology (NSIC) and reviewed the recently completed Out Patient Department (OPD), which has been made functional on a trial basis.
According to Commissioner office spokesperson, the OPD has been running on a trial basis for last week, providing services to around 50 patients daily. Two cardiologists were currently providing services and modern facilities such as ECG, ETT, echo and holter monitoring have been activated.
On the occasion, Sargodha Medical College Principle, Dr. Waris Farooq informed the commissioner that the recruitment process for 16 cardiologists was underway and arrangements were being made for the supply of medicines.
He also informed that the hospital’s processes have been made paperless, ensuring efficient service delivery.
The engineers briefed the commissioner on the construction progress, stating that 77 percent of the main building’s work has been completed and one out of three lifts has been made functional. “State-of-the-art machinery has also been installed in the hospital”, they added.
The commissioner was informed that the NSIC will be an autonomous institution, functioning under its own Board of Governors and Chief Executive Officer. Plans were being made to officially inaugurate the OPD in the second week of next month.
Commissioner Jahanzeb directed that the construction work should be completed as soon as possible to ensure the provision of complete facilities to citizens.
He appreciated the progress made so far and emphasized the importance of timely completion.

Finance Minister announces five honorariums for budget session staff

ISLAMABAD, Jun 27 (APP):Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb on Friday announced a special honorarium equal to five basic salaries for government employees who performed duties during the federal budget session.
Speaking at the conclusion of the session in the National Assembly, he said the reward was in recognition of the dedicated efforts of officers and staff from the National Assembly, Senate, and various government departments.
He praised the secretaries and additional secretaries of both houses for their hard work and professionalism.
The minister especially highlighted the efforts of the legislative team, who worked late into the night to ensure accurate and error-free budget documents.
He also acknowledged the valuable contribution of the Law and Justice Division.
In addition, he thanked the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) teams, including those working in the opposition lobby and the National Assembly library, for their timely and consistent support during the session.

PM urges unity, collective efforts for country’s economic development

ISLAMABAD, Jun 27 (APP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday appreciating the economic team and the coalition parties for their hard work and support in the passage of annual budget 2025-26 through the parliament, called for replicating a similar exemplary unity and efforts to achieve national economic development. 

Now, we must all work together day and night for Pakistan’s economic progress. I firmly believe that this exemplary unity will ensure Pakistan’s economic uplift,” he said in a meeting with members of the Senate and National Assembly after the approval of budget 2025-26. 

He said the economic team worked tirelessly to prepare a people-friendly budget and also thanked the allied parties whose consultations helped shape a budget as per the public aspirations. 

Discussing the regional situation, he said Allah Almighty had granted Pakistan a splendid victory in response to India’s recent unprovoked aggression against Pakistan.  

The Pakistan armed forces, the entire political leadership, the public, civil society, and the media unitedly thwarted the enemy’s evil designs. Pakistan’s victory has elevated its stature among the comity of nations, he added. 

He told the parliamentarians that under the leadership of Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the diplomatic delegation effectively highlighted Pakistan’s stance and exposed India’s malicious intentions toward Pakistan on the global stage. 

He stated that the multi-party delegation was warmly received internationally, and overseas Pakistanis also enthusiastically greeted them, offering heartfelt tributes to the government and Pakistan armed forces over diplomatic and military triumph. 

Coming to recent Israel’s aggression against Iran, Prime Minister Shehbaz said that Pakistan expressed solidarity with the Iranian government and its people at every level. 

“I was in constant contact with the Iranian leadership, particularly President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, during the conflict. The resolution of Israel-Iran conflict will open avenues for peace and prosperity in the region,” he remarked.

Pakistan secures first win in Asian Youth Girls Netball Championship

ISLAMABAD, Jun 27 (APP):Pakistan got off to a flying start at the Asian Youth Girls Netball Championship 2025, thrashing Saudi Arabia 71-15 in their opening match in South Korea on Friday.
The national side, featuring standout performances by Lia Raza Shah, Alisha Naveed, Samia Safdar, Halima, Sareena Hussain, Jasmine Farooq, Farah Rasheed and Pareesa, displayed dominance throughout the match, according to information made available here by Pakistan Netball Federation (PNF).
Following the impressive victory, Chairman of the PNF Mudassar Arain, President Sameen Malik and Secretary General Muhammad Riaz extended their congratulations to the team.
Pakistan will play its second league match against Chinese Taipei on Saturday (June 28). The Green Shirts are scheduled to face hosts South Korea on June 29, Japan on June 30 and Maldives on July 1 in their remaining group fixtures.
The championship, featuring 11 participating nations, has been divided into two groups. Group A includes Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, and India, while Pakistan is placed in Group B alongside Chinese Taipei, Japan, Korea, Maldives, and Saudi Arabia.
The tournament will continue till July 4.

Finance Minister lauds lawmakers support in budget approval

ISLAMABAD, Jun 27 (APP):Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb Friday expressed heartfelt gratitude to members of both the government and opposition for their active participation and valuable input in the federal budget process for the fiscal year 2025-26.
Addressing the National Assembly after the passage of budget, the finance minister said there was no doubt that contributions, and constructive feedback from both sides of the aisle had played a vital role in the successful completion of the budget process.
He appreciated members of the treasury as well as the opposition for openly expressing their views during the debate, describing it as a hallmark of democratic culture.
He especially thanked the Speaker of the National Assembly for allowing the opposition full opportunity to share their opinions, thereby lending greater legitimacy to the parliamentary proceedings.
Senator Aurangzeb also acknowledged the efforts of parliamentary staff, officers, and other government employees who worked diligently throughout the session.
He lauded the secretaries and additional secretaries of both the National Assembly and Senate, commending their dedication and professionalism.
The minister made special mention of the legislative team that worked tirelessly, often through the night, to ensure error-free documentation of the budget.

NA approves Rs743.48 bln in Supplementary, excess grants for FY2023–24 and 2025

ISLAMABAD, Jun 27 (APP):The National Assembly on Friday approved supplementary and excess demands for grants amounting to Rs743.48 billion for the financial years 2023–24 and 2025 to meet additional expenditures of various federal ministries and divisions.
Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Muhammad Aurangzeb, presented the demands for grants in the House, which were subsequently passed.

Finance Minister lays budgetary documents in NA

ISLAMABAD, Jun 27 (APP):Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Friday laid key budgetary documents before the National Assembly in accordance with Article 83 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
The documents tabled before the House included the Schedule of Authorized Expenditure for the fiscal year 2025-26, the Schedule of Supplementary Authorized Expenditure for the fiscal years 2023-24 and 2024-25, and the Schedule of Excess Authorized Expenditure for 2023-24.
