WASHINGTON, April 16 (APP): Pakistan was promoting increased global connectivity through a series of initiatives and the government is committed to transform the country into a knowledge-based economy, Finance Secretary Dr. Waqar Maood Khan said.

Speaking at an event the “Global Connect Initiative” at the World
Bank, Washington, the Finance Secretary reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to support the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS), action lines and targets that were set under the agenda for the Sustainable Developments Goals (SDG).

The government was promoting increased global connectivity through a
series of initiatives to defuse the broadband penetration and encourage numerous applications in provision of public services, he added.

ISLAMABAD, Apr 15 (APP): Prime Minister’s son Hussain
Nawaz Friday said that establishing offshore companies was
legal.

Talking to a news channel, he said, he had two offshore
companies named NESCOL and NELSON, adding that Marryum Nawaz was trusty of those companies.

Hussain Nawaz said, “We do not own flat No 16 A, which
is mentioned in Panama papers, and anyone can verify it.”
Replying to a question, he said that he sold a factory in
Saudi Arabia and bought property with that money.

Pakistan, Turkey to finalize FTA by September: President

ONBOARD SPECIAL FLIGHT, April 15 (APP): President Mamnoon
Hussain on Friday said Pakistan and Turkey would finalize the Free
Trade Agreement (FTA) by September this year to further promote and encourage trade between the two brotherly countries.

“This issue came under discussion during my meetings with the
Turkish President and PM and we will finalise FTA by September 2016,” the President said while talking to mediapersons on board his special flight on way back to Islamabad from Istanbul.

The President, who represented Pakistan at the 13th Islamic
Summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation hosted by Turkey from April 14 to 15, was very hopeful about the results of Istanbul Summit.

PM announces compensation for AJK land slides affectees

ISLAMABAD, Apr 15 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif
Friday announced monetary compensation for the affectees of recent
landslides in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Under the compensation package, the owners of the completely
damaged houses would get Rs 5,00,000 each, while a sum of Rs 2,50,000 would be given to the owners of partially damaged houses, said a press release of the PM office media wing.

The Prime Minister said that he would soon visit the areas
affected by the landslides and personally meet the affectees.

President Mamnoon, Niger’s PM discuss bilateral, regional issues

ISTANBUL, Apr 15 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister of Niger Brigi Rafini met here on Friday and discussed issues of bilateral, regional and international importance.

Both leaders stressed strengthening of relations between the two countries in diverse areas particularly trade and economy.

Arab, ASEAN countries’ envoys briefed on RAW’s activities

ISLAMABAD, Apr 15 (APP): Ministry of Foreign Affairs Friday
briefed envoys of Arab countries and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), based in Islamabad, over the subversive activities of the Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) inside Pakistan.

They were briefed over the arrest of RAW’s officer Kulbushan
Yadav and his confession about the Indian sponsored subversive activities and terrorist financing to destabilize Pakistan, said a press release of the Foreign Office.

It was emphasized that in order to achieve regional peace
and stability, it was imperative that India should immediately
stop its interference in Pakistan and resolve all contentious
issues, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute through the
process of sustained dialogue.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during the upcoming high level strategic meeting to be held in Turkey in which all aspects of multifaceted bilateral relations would be discussed.

ISLAMABAD, Apr 15 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif Friday urged all political parties to give mandate to inquiry commission on Panama Leaks to reveal the reality before the nation.

In an interview to a news channel, he said the independent, powerful, and neutral commission on Panama Leaks would be formed to investigate the matter of 200 Pakistani mentioned in Panama reports.

The government has contacted with retired judges of Supreme Court to carry out transparent inquiry on the issue, he added. He said the Prime Minister has nothing to do with Panama Leaks as his name was not mentioned in the reports.
