PAF win Inter-Services of Golf Championship after 25-year

PESHAWAR, Apr 16 (APP): The spirited team of Pakistan Air Force clinched the trophy of the Inter-Services Golf Championship after 25-years long lapse by scoring 1139 over 72 holes here at PAF Golf Course on Saturday.

The start-studded PAF team succeeded in toppling both Pakistan Army and Pakistan Navy teams. Pakistan Navy took second position by scoring a gross score 1158 runs and Pakistan Army scored 1218 overall over 72 holes.

It is pertaining to mention here that the golfers who performed exceptional in the 2016 Inter-Services Golf would represent Pakistan in the CISM golfing event.

Rs 332.7 bln agri credit disbursed so far

Pakistan's regional exports increase 34.75% in July-August 2021

ISLAMABAD, April 16 (APP): Some Rs 332.7 billion agricultural credit has been disbursed during the first eight months of the current fiscal year by various banks and financial institutions against the target of Rs 600 billion set by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The disbursement of Rs 332.7 billion from July-March (2015-16), shows an increase of 15.3 per cent as compared to Rs 288.7 billion disbursed during the corresponding period of last year, according to official data.

The outstanding portfolio of agricultural loans has increased by Rs 46.9 billion i.e. from Rs 307.6 billion to Rs 354.5 billion with 15.2 per cent growth at the end of February 2016 as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

RAWALPINDI, April 16 (APP): Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana on Saturday conferred degrees to some 2360 students of undergraduate, Masters, M Phil and PhD courses at the 17th Convocation of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR).

Fifty-five students, who topped the examination in their respective disciplines, were given gold, silver and bronze medals and certificates.

Addressing the convocation held at the university’s campus, the Governor appreciated and felicitated Vice Chancellor Dr Rai Niaz, management and faculty of the university on the success of the students.

Peshawar win male, female squash titles as Nowshera bag Athletic trophy in KP U-23 Games

PESHAWAR, Apr 16 (APP): Peshawar clinched the trophy of the female squash after defeating Nowshera in the final while District Nowshera bagged Athletic trophy after securing 37 points in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa U-23 Female Games being played at BISE Sports Complex on Saturday.

Director General Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Miss Rashida Ghaznavi and Director Sports BISE Manzar Khan graced the occasion and distributed various trophies among the position holders.

The squash team of Peshawar comprising national ranking players Komal Khan, Laiba Ijaz and Kainat defeated Aysha, Aimen and Shezadi in straight sets. Laiba in the first match defeated her strong rival Aysha by 3-0, the score was 11-7, 11-6 and 11-5, Komal beat Aimen by 3-0, the score was 11-9, 11-7 and 11-6 and Kainat outclassed Shehzadi by 3-0, the score was 11-8, 11-7 and 11-6.

Pakistanis soon to watch popular Chinese TV programs

BEIJING, April 16 (APP): Viewers, pertaining to varied age groups in Pakistan, will soon be watching popular Chinese fashion dramas, documentaries and cartoon dubbed into Urdu as an effort to further strengthen the long standing friendship between the two countries.

The programmes, immensely popular among local viewers as well as those in other parts of the world, include Young Men in Beijing (drama serial), Adventures of Qin (cartoon), The Puzzling China and A Bite of China that has reportedly achieved record sale during a short span of time across the mainland China.

Senior officials of State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of China (SAPPRFT), talking to a delegation of journalists from South Asian countries attending a programme organized by China-South Asia Media Center, in collaboration with China Public Diplomacy Association, said Pakistan and China were also contemplating to enter into a joint film production venture.

Pakistan-South Africa relations are increasing with a steady pace

LAHORE, April 16 (APP): Since economic development is directly linked to research and technology, the government is paying special attention to strengthen research institutions and enhanced the PCSIR research and development budget to Rs 250 million from mere Rs 65 million.

Federal Science and Technology Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain stated this in a meeting with business community here at Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) on Saturday.

LCCI Senior Vice President Almas Hyder, Vice President Nasir Saeed, Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) Chairman Dr. Shahzad Alam, the LCCI Executive Committee member and representatives of trade & industry were also present.

VC AIOU book launched at fourth Islamabad Literature Festival

ISLAMABAD, April 16 (APP): A book of Vice Chancellor Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Dr. Shahid Siddiqui, “Education Policies in Pakistan” launched here on Saturday at fourth Islamabad Literature Festival (ILF) at Lok Virsa.

The three-day festival, started today, was organized by Oxford University Press to feature a line-up of around 165 authors, academics, journalists, and artists from Pakistan and abroad.

Speaking at the book launching ceremony, renowned scholars sharing their remarks said the author in his book focussed on improved education policies with better time specification for implementation.

No credible evidence of Pakistan involvement in 2009 attack on CIA in Afghanistan: WP Report

WASHINGTON, April 16 (APP): There is no credible evidence  exists of Pakistan’s government involvement in the 2009 attack  on CIA operators in Afghanistan, a Washington Post report said  citing unnamed US officials.

Declassified US documents made public this week by a
nonprofit group made allegations in a memo, written early in
2010 by a US official who was not named, according to the
Washington Post report.

The report posed a question about the credibility of the
claim made in the document saying that the new version of
events has prominent skeptics, including from the US
intelligence community which spent many months in
investigating the incident.

Yemen at critical crossroads, UN envoy tells UNSC

UNITED NATIONS, April 16 (APP): Yemen is now at a critical crossroads,
the UN envoy for the Arab country Friday told the Security Council, with one path leading to peace while the other can only worsen the security and humanitarian situation.

“This briefing comes on the eve of the next round of face-to-face talks in Kuwait, where I hope the parties will come to an agreement on a clear way to end the violence and devastation in Yemen,” Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, said.

“The cessation of hostilities began at midnight on 10 April and I hope
it will provide a conducive environment for the upcoming talks, offer the opportunity for expanded humanitarian assistance and provide a rare ray of hope for Yemenis longing for a return to peace,” he added.

The talks will commence on 18 April and aim to reach a comprehensive
agreement, to end the conflict and allow the resumption of inclusive political dialogue in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 2216 (2015) and other relevant resolutions.

New standard of transparency established for next UN chief: General Assembly chief

UNITED NATIONS, April 16 (APP): Three days of interviews with nine
candidates for the position of the next United Nations Secretary-General have concluded during which they answered all together some 800 questions from the UN membership and the public on how, if selected, they would lead the world body.

“We have established a new standard of transparency and inclusivity for
the appointment process, but it has the potential also to influence the final outcome of the selection of the Secretary-General,” UN General Assembly President Mogens Lykketoft told reporters at the conclusion of the unprecedented public dialogues.

Starting on Tuesday, each candidate was given a two-hour televised and  webcast timeslot. Prior to opening up the floor for questions from UN delegates and civil society representatives as well as from the public through social media, candidates gave short oral presentations their `vision statements’ addressing challenges and opportunities facing the UN and the next Secretary-General.
