CPEC’s first phase to be completed by 2018: Ahsan

ISLAMABAD, April 16 (APP): Federal Minister Planning, Development and Reform Ahsan Iqbal said on Saturday that the first phase of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would be completed by the year 2018.

The production of 10,000 MGW of energy under CPEC would help overcome the energy crisis by 2018 as well as upgrade the existing road network of the country, especially western route, through construction of missing links on it would provide the safest and shortest passage of cargo from Gwadar Seaport to upcountry for their onward movement to China’s western provinces, he said in a statement on the CPEC.

Ahsan Iqbal said that Pakistan and China were working closely and wholeheartedly to implement the CPEC projects in the speediest manner.

UNICEF, World Bank urge greater investment in early childhood development

UNITED NATIONS, April 16 (APP): The heads of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Bank Group are jointly urging
global and national leaders to step up action and investments in nutrition and early childhood development programmes as a critical foundation for equitable development and economic growth.

The two organizations said in a statement hat they have established a new alliance that aims to make early childhood development a global policy, programming and public spending priority, to give all young children access to quality services that improve their health, nutrition, learning ability and emotional well being.
Advances in neuroscience and recent economic studies show that early childhood experiences have a profound impact on brain development and on subsequent learning, health, and adult earnings. Children, who are poorly nourished and nurtured, or those who do not receive early stimulation, are likely to learn less in school and earn less as adults.

Pak. army, nation ready to respond Indian aggression: Minister

ISLAMABAD, April 16 (APP): Federal Minister for Religious Affairs
and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf on Saturday said the designated branches of scheduled banks would start receiving applications under the Government Hajj Scheme on Monday.

Announcing the Hajj Policy 2016 at a press conference here, the
minister said the applications would be received till April 26.
Balloting for successful intending pilgrims would be held on April 29,
who would be intimated through a letter, he added.

He said the Hajj package for pilgrims from Karachi,
Quetta and Sukkur (South Region) would be Rs 261,941 and from
Peshawar, Islamabad, Lahore, Multan, Rahim Yar Khan, Faisalabad and
Sialkot (North Region) Rs 270,941.

Addressing a foundation stone laying ceremony in
connection with reconstruction of Sahiwal Railway Station here Saturday, he said when the PML N came to power with the pledge to work for the country’s development and launched many projects for the purpose.

The minister said when he took over charge
as minister a large number of railway stations were in
poor condition and many other problems also existed.

Sardar Yousuf rejects KPK govt’s false propaganda against CPEC

MULTAN, April 16 (APP): Federal Minister for Religious Affair and Inter-faith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf said on Saturday that a tracker system would be introduced for pilgrims to ensure their connection with the control room during Haj.

Talking to the media here at the Multan International Airport, he said the tracker system would be introduced by keeping in view the stamped occurred during Haj in the previous year.

He said the ministry of religious affairs had completed work on Haj policy and the prime minister had given approval of it. He added the new Haj policy would be announced on April 17 in Islamabad.

Talking to the media after having a detailed meeting with business community here at Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), he said that PTI chairman was maintaining double standard with regard to Panama Leaks by saying that he would clear his position after objection by the PML-N, and when PML-N uttered the same answer, Imran Khan resorted to unjustified sit-in and protest politics.

To a question, Federal Minister said that innocence of Sharif Family members could be well-judged from the fact that they presented themselves for accountability and before the masses, and were ready to clear their position before any commission or investigative body etc. regarding Panama papers.

LAHORE, Apr 16 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said special attention is being paid for the uplift of backward areas under balanced development policy.

Presiding over a meeting here on Saturday which reviewed the pace of progress on ongoing projects in the province, he said people were benefiting from mega development projects completed in the province and work was being carried out speedily on public welfare projects of billions of rupees in education, health and other sectors.

He said programmes like Daanish School, Punjab Educational Endowment Fund, distribution of laptops and encouragement of talented students were leaving a positive impact on the education sector.

MULTAN, Apr 16 (APP): Pakistan army and Wapda teams won gold medals in the 52nd national table tennis championship at gymnasium hall on Saturday.

According to results, in mixed double final, Asim Qureshi and Sadia Falak of Wapda beat Rameez and Ayesha of Wapda with (3-0) sets.

In women’s double final, Raheela and Shabnam of Pak Army defeated Ayesha and Sidra of Wapda (3-0) sets.

Ajoka Theatre stages play

LAHORE, Apr 16 (APP): Ajoke Theatre, a social drama organization, staged a play “Anni Mai Da Sofna” at the Alhamra on Saturday in collaboration with the Lahore Arts Council.

The story of the play is about people who migrated from India to Pakistan in 1947.

The Ajoka Theatre will also stage the drama in Gujranwala and Faisalabad too.

‘Panamanian minister’s calim for meeting Dar in Washington baseless’

ISLAMABAD, April 16 (APP): A spokesman of the Ministry of Finance on Saturday termed the claim of Panamanian Deputy Minister for Economy about a meeting with Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in Washington baseless.

Referring to electronic media reports in this regard, the spokesman in a statement, said Panama’s Deputy Minister of Economy Ivan Zarak made an absolutely baseless, unfounded and extremely surprising claim during a CNN interview of meeting with Pakistan’s Finance Minister in Washington.

The Finance Minister, he said, had cancelled his visit to Washington DC where he was scheduled to participate in the spring meetings of World Bank and International Monetary Fund from April 14-17.
