ISLAMABAD, Apr 17 (APP): First time in the history of Pakistan, the glorious National Book Day under the organization of National Book Foundation will start in 22nd April 2016 (Friday) in Pak- China Friendship Center, Islamabad.

Advisor to Prime Minister on National History and literary Heritage Division, Irfan Siddique expressed these views in the meeting with the officers of National History & Literary Division and National Book Foundation in his office at Islamabad.

He informed media persons that the renowned intellectual and literary personalities, Book Ambassadors, Book- lovers, educationists, well known writers, poets, famous artists, students of educational institutions, including book readers and people from all walks of life in large number are expected to participate in it.

SAARC Chamber strives to enhance intra-region trade’

LAHORE, April 17 (APP): South Asia Association for Regional Cooperation Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SAARC CCI) has since its inception been striving hard to enhance trade among all the SAARC countries- Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, and Afghanistan.

SAARC CCI Vice President Iftikhar Ali Malik told media here Sunday that
Chamber has been holding fruitful meetings with businessmen, industrialists and top government functionaries of the SAARC member countries, which would definitely put a very positive impact on the overall intra-SAARC region trade.

He mentioned that he had recently led a high-level delegation to Afghanistan in the line of Chamber’s efforts to improve trade and economic activities. “We have discussed at length the matters pertaining to free trade in the SAARC region,” he added.

Rescuers race against landslides to reach Japan quake victims

MASHIKI, Japan, April 17, (APP/AFP): Rescuers were racing against the weather and the threat of more landslides Sunday to reach people still trapped by two big earthquakes that hit southern Japan.

At last 41 people are known to have died in the double disaster, with at least six still missing—feared buried in shattered houses or under torrents of mud.

Heavy rain was lashing the area around Kumamoto, where officials have warned quake-loosened hillsides could be at risk of collapse as aftershocks continued to roil the ground.

NAP to continue till elimination of last terrorist: President

KAKUL, April 16 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain Saturday said the National Action Plan would continue till the elimination of the last terrorist to ensure peace not only within the country but also in the region.

Addressing the 134th Long Course Passing Out parade here at the Pakistan Military Academy the President paid rich tributes to the sacrifices of the country’s armed forces who were successfully countering the terrorists through Operation Zarb-e-Azb.

Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif also attended the passing out parade.  The President said the national political leadership unanimously agreed on the National Action Plan to eliminate extremism and terrorism from the country.

BHIMBER, April 16 (APP): Minister for Information, Broadcasting
and National Heritage Pervaiz Rashid on Saturday said those accusing Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif were running the election campaign of the son of James Goldsmith against Sadiq Khan, the son of a Pakistani labourer, for London’s mayorship.

Speaking as chief guest at a public meeting after inauguration
of Regional Passport Office here, he said the Pakistan Muslim
League Nawaz (PML N) was standing by the son of the labourer. How could the person, who did not support a fellow Pakistani in the London mayoral election, expect that Pakistanis and Kashmiris would vote for his party, he asked.

The minister congratulated the people of Bhimber over the
inauguration of passport office. On January 11, Deputy Opposition Leader in Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly Chaudhry Tariq Farooq had demanded to set up a passport office in a public gathering at the same place. The Interior Minister gave approval for the office, which was inaugurated on Saturday.

Nisar in Germany for medical treatment of his family

Ali Khan is in Germany for medcial treatment of his family, a spokesperon of the Interior Ministry said on Saturday.

The spokesperson, in a statement, said the people, who were
indulging in unwarranted and unjustified kite flying, should have decency and courtesy to respect the privacy of the minister.

He categorically rejected the reports in a section of
the press about the purpose of the Interior Minister’s visit to Germany, which he said, were false, concocted and ridiculous.

Javaid Sheikh plans to bring foreign investment in films

LAHORE, April 16 (APP): Famous film star Javaid Sheikh
Saturday said some new Pakistani films had been liked by a
large number of people in many countries and that was why foreign investors had shown interest to invest in the industry here.

Javaid Sheikh told APP that the Pakistan film industry
had started to revive as young talented actors were getting success at the box office with the guidance of seniors.

“If we produce films with foreign partnership, we will
be able to make a tremendous progress,” he added.
He said he had planned to bring foreign investment
in Pakistan film industry.

ISLAMABAD, April 16 (APP): Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting of the Laws Review Committee here on Saturday.

The meeting had detailed discussion on the legislation which would now be placed before the Senate after passage by the National Assembly, said in statement issued by Ministry of Finance here on Saturday.

Proposals regarding pending legislation in the pipeline were also discussed and finalized.
