Govt implementing comprehensive programme for development of school education: CM

LAHORE, May 2 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad
Shehbaz Sharif has said that government is implementing a
comprehensive programme for the development of school
education.

Presiding over a high level meeting here on Monday, which
discussed matters regarding improvement of school education,
teachers’ training, promotion of IT and others issues, he said
that teachers’ training programme was an important element of
educational reforms roadmap as it was vital for quality
education.

He said that schools reforms programme was yielding
positive results and steps taken by the government were
helping in raising the standard of education in the province.

Corps Commanders meet; COAS chairs forum

RAWALPINDI May 2 (APP): Corps Commanders Conference was held on Monday at General Headquarters (GHQ), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif chaired the conference.

Forum was briefed in detail about internal and external security situation of the country, press release of ISPR stated. Participants of the conference dwelt at length on operational preparedness, training and other professional matters.

COAS while lauding the successful completion of Shawal operation paid rich tribute to the sacrifices of the troops of Army, Frontier Corps and Rangers who are valiantly fighting war against terrorism to make Pakistan a safer place.

PM leaves for Quetta to inaugurate development projects

ISLAMABAD, May 2 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Monday left here for Quetta to launch the National Health Programme besides inauguration of development projects worth billions of rupees.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate a project for the supply of gas to Mastung, Qalat and adjoining areas.

Other projects include supply of gas to Inayatullah Karez Gulistan in District Qilla Abdullah, construction of an underpass at Brewary Road, Golimar Chowk, construction of another underpass at Zarghoon Road in Quetta and electricity transmission to Loralai-DG Khan.

World Bank approves $1 billion to Pakistan

WB hails Pakistan for economic recovery, policy reforms

ISLAMABAD, May 2 (APP): The World Bank has approved a package of assistance worth US$1 billion to support Pakistan’s economic reforms.

The assistance package consists of two Development Policy Credits
(DPCs) to support the Government of Pakistan’s efforts to improve the power sector, and reinvigorate growth and investment for reducing poverty and building shared prosperity.

“The Government of Pakistan deserves appreciation for stabilizing the
economy, initiating reforms in the power sector as well as revenue mobilization and drawing in the private sector for spurring growth”, said Philippe H. Le Houerou, Vice President of World Bank Group’s South Asia Region.

ISLAMABAD, May 02 (APP): Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali
Khan Monday directed National Database and Registration Authority
(NADRA) and Passport Office to issue Computerised National Identity
Cards (CNICs) and passports to citizens without any delay.

Chairing a high level meeting of officials of Interior Ministry
and its attached departments, he directed the concerned to ensure
quick grant of “Right to Identity” of citizens living in Pakistan
and abroad.

The Interior Minister ordered the NADRA Chairman and Director
General Passport to take immediate measures for improving public
dealing and redressing public complaints locally and aboard to
facilitate process for giving “Right to Identity” to every
Pakistani.

WTO urged to support Pakistan in trade facilitation for CPEC

ISLAMABAD, May 2 (APP): Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Ahsan Iqbal Monday urged World Trade Organization (WTO) to support Pakistan in capacity building in SME sector and trade facilitation for CPEC.

Pakistan eyes $150 billion exports by 2025 under Vision-2025, which requires a paradigm shift in nature and composition of exports by adding value and introducing innovation in existing export regime.

Ahsan Iqbal stated in a meeting with Director General WTO Roberto Azvedo, who called on him at Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform.

RAWALPINDI, May 2 (APP): Iranian Ambassador, Mehdi Honardoost said on Monday that Pakistan and Iran had old history and were culturally, historically, linguistically and religiously attached with each other.

He said Pak Iran India gas pipeline project needed to be reactivated adding We had signed preferential trade agreement and it was operational since September 2006.

He said this while visiting Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry here. The Ambassador said there were tremendous opportunities to improve trade relations between the two countries.
Pakistan he said was facing energy crisis and Iran with its electricity and gas was ready to help Pakistan to meet its energy shortage through cheap Iranian gas.

Temperature on the rise in different cities

ISLAMABAD, May 2 (APP): Temperature is on the rise in different cities
of the Pakistan, with Okara topping the heat with 40 degrees Celsius while Lahore stands at 34øC on Monday.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), dry and hot weather will maintain its course in different cities in the coming days.

Temperature is likely to hit 47øC in Sindh’s Dadu and Nawabshah. However, weather in Karachi will remain dry and hot in coming 24 hours.

Interests, rights of tribal people to be protected under FATA reforms:Governor

PESHAWAR, May 2 (APP): Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra on Monday said the interests and rights of tribal people would be protected under FATA reforms, that would be finalized as per the aspiration of tribal people and traditions.

Addressing a meeting of consultative meeting with tribal elders from
Frontier Regions and public representatives from FATA on reforms in tribal regions, he said the government is committed to introduce such reforms in FATA that could translate the aspiration of tribal people besides strengthening ties between the state and people.

He said comprehensive reforms are being proposed for speedy justice,
improved administrative system, development and construction in FATA to improve the living standard of the common man.
