Journalism fourth pillar of state: Pervaiz

ISLAMABAD, May 3 (APP): Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid has said that journalism is considered across the world as fourth pillar of the state.

The government believed in freedom of media as it was playing an important role in highlighting real issues of the common man, he said while talking to Pakistan Television (PTV).

The minister said the progress and development of a country and society could not be possible without contribution of all the pillars. Every one should play its constitutional role for the prosperity of the country, he added.

KARACHI, May 3 (APP): The work on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects worth dollars 28 billion, has been initiated.

This was stated by the Federal Minister for Planning and Development,
Prof. Ahsan Iqbal.

He was briefing media on CPEC programme at a local hotel on Tuesday.
Chairman of the Board of Investment (BOI), Muftah Ismail was also present on the occasion.

Independent media, freedom of expression hallmark of democratic society: Pervaiz

ISLAMABAD, May 3 (APP): Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid Tuesday said that independent media and freedom of expression were hallmark of a free and democratic society.

The minister, in his message on Press Freedom Day, said “independence of media and democracy go hand in hand and one cannot survive without the other.”

The people of Pakistan and media community, he added, had jointly waged a long struggle to achieve both the goals.

Muslim Ummah should adopt common strategy to deal with terrorism: President

ISLAMABAD, May 3 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain Tuesday said that the time has come for the Muslim Ummah to adopt a common strategy to deal with terrorism, as terrorists were tarnishing the image of Islam with their misguided ideology.

The President said this while talking to Saqr Bin Mubarak Al-Mansouri, Ambassador of Qatar to Pakistan who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

The President said that Islam was a religion of peace that believed in the sanctity of human life and did not allow the killing of people.

Ranjha for disseminating information without sensationalization

ISLAMABAD, May 03 (APP): Parliamentary Secretary Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha Tuesday asked to avoid sensationalization and disseminate information after scrutiny and examining facts.

Addressing a World Press Freedom Day function, he said freedom of expression was basic right of journalists, but sensationalism should be avoided and responsible journalism should be encouraged.

The event was organised by Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) to mark World Press Freedom Day.

Govt-opposition meeting soon to formulate consensus ToRs: Irfan

ISLAMABAD, May 03 (APP): Advisor to the Prime Minister for National
History and Literary Heritage Irfan Siddiqui Tuesday said a meeting of opposition and government representatives would be held soon for evolving consensus on Terms of Reference (ToRs) for the judicial commission on Panama Papers.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, he said, had addressed the nation and announced to form a judicial commission headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan and then its ToRs were prepared by the government.

Talking to a news channel, Siddiqui said on the demand of opposition, the Prime Minister had written a letter to CJP to constitute a judicial commission on Panama Papers.

National History & Literary Heritage Division to organize book festivals

ISLAMABAD, May 3 (APP): The National History and Literary Heritage Division Irfan Siddiqui will organize a series of book festivals in all the four provinces.

The decision in this regard was taken here at a meeting chaired by
Advisor to the Prime Minister on National History and Literary Heritage Division Irfan Siddiqui.

The book festivals will be held in Hyderabad, Bahawalpur, Quetta and Peshawar.  Speaking on the occasion, the Advisor felicitated the officials of his  Division and National Book Foundation on behalf of the Prime Minister for organizing the first mega National Book Festival in Islamabad last week.

Saima supports love story films

LAHORE, May 3 (APP): Famous film star Saima said the trend of film viewers had changed and now people started liking love stories instead of action movies.

Talking to APP here on Tuesday, she said Pakistan film industry had revived upto some extent and better films with new technology were being produced.

She advised the film producers to make films based on love stories. She said films on social subjects were also attracting the public, adding that the time of stereo type films had gone.

Rain, thunderstorm with strong gusty winds likely in upper areas

ISLAMABAD, May 3 (APP): Rain-thunderstorm with strong gusty winds is expected at scattered places in upper areas of the country while partly cloudy conditions to prevail in central parts during the next 24 hours.

Rainfall is forecast at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), FATA,
Islamabad, upper Punjab Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sahiwal and Faisalabad divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, while at few places in south Punjab at Multan, Bahawalpur and D.G Khan divisions, Sukkur, Larkana, Quetta, Kalat, Zhob and Sibbi divisions.

An official of met office told APP that low pressure area lies over north Balochistan and its adjoining areas with its trough extending eastward. A fresh westerly wave is affecting upper and central parts of the country and may persist till Thursday.

Four-member team to feature in two snooker events in UAE

ISLAMABAD, May 3 (APP): Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) on Tuesday finalized national team for participation in the 4th Asian Team Event and 5th Six Red Snooker Championship, scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi, UAE from May 18-26.

According to a PBSA press release, a four-member team – Muhammad Bilal, Muhammad Asif, Babar Masih and Asjad Iqbal will feature in the event.

The training camp for the players will be held at Movenpick Hotel Arcade, Karachi from May 10 to 16.
