Shab e Meraj being observed on Wednesday night

ISLAMABAD, May 4 (APP): Shab e Meraj un Nabi (Peace Be
Upon Him) was being observed across the country on Wednesday night
with traditional fervor, great respect and devotion.
The Muslims every year on night of 26th of Rajab (Islamic
calendar) observe Shab e Miraj in which the Holy Prophet (PBUH) went on a special journey to meet Allah Almighty, crossing seven skies on the heavenly animal named ‘al Buraq.’

The women devotees are offering prayers in special gatherings
inside their homes during the night.

ISLAMABAD, May 4 (APP): Federal Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid Wednesday said the opposition’s Terms of Reference (ToRs) were focusing the Prime Minister and protecting their own people.

“Opposition’s ToRs were not based on justice.” While government’s ToRs were not framed to save any person. Opposition has framed ToRs with the sole purpose of saving their own members from accountability, he said while talking to a news channel.

It was a moral responsibility of opposition to send their ToRs to the
government first but their ToRs are being discussed in media for the last 24 hours but the government did not receive it officially.

'Right to Information' makes Govt organizations accountable to people

ISLAMABAD, May 4 (APP): The ‘Right to Information’ gives
people a wide choice to get information from any government
organization, particularly the journalists can use it for
investigative stories and for playing an effective role as
watchdog of the society.

It also gives an extensive option to journalists and
mass communications students to take information from any
public organization for their professional requirements.

This was the main theme of speakers at a seminar on
“Using Right to Information Laws for Investigative Reporting
in Pakistan” in connection with World Press Freedom Day,
organized by Preston University Islamabad.

Managing Director Associated Press of Pakistan (APP)
Masood Malik, addressing the seminar, said that APP was not
only sharing information but also engaged in educating people
on the issue.

ISLAMABAD, May 4 (APP): Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar
Ali Khan Wednesday said that the issue of international non governmental organisations (INGOs) was being addressed by the interior ministry amicably and without any hurdles.

The Interior Minister shared his views during a meeting with
the Canadian High Commissioner Heather Cruden here on Wednesday.
“We will ensure that the issue of INGOs is settled and sorted
out in an amicable manner and this is being addressed professionally,” said Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.

The high commissioner Heather Cruden extended her government’s
support to Pakistan for capacity building in policing and narcotics control.

ISLAMABAD, May 4 (APP): Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad
Rafique on Wednesday said concocted stories and false allegations
had become a trade-mark of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
In a statement issued here, he said that Imran Khan should
probe harassment issue of women in public gathering rather than
making baseless allegations against PML-N.
He asked PTI leadership why they failed to protect women
workers in their public gatherings.

UAE investors urged to invest in Pakistan for high returns

Industry (ICCI) Wednesday urged United Arab Emirates (UAE)
investors to focus on Pakistan for investment.
The UAE investors should invest in Pakistan and launch
joint ventures in many sectors of Pakistan’s economy which
are open for investment, ICCI Acting President, Sheikh Pervez
Ahmed said.
Addressing a seminar here, he said, the government has
provided lucrative incentives to foreign investors and China-
Pakistan Economic Corridor Project would start a new era of
investment activities in the country.

ISLAMABAD, May 4 (APP): Ministerial Committee for Construction of Diamer-Bhasha Dam Wednesday informed that around 90 percent land for the construction of dam had been acquired.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit Affairs Barjees Tahir, minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, minister for Inter Provincial Coordination, Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada,
minister for Overseas Pakistanis Pir Sadaruddin Shah Rashdi, Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, chairman WAPDA Zafar Mehmood, federal secretary of Kashmir Affairs and Chief Secretary of GB.
The committee apprised that entire land of the dam for the storage of water had been acquired while instruction had been issued for obtaining of remaining 10 percent land.

Pakistan, France acknowledge to collectively address terrorism threat

ISLAMABAD, May 4 (APP): Pakistan and France have
acknowledged the need to work together to address the
continuing threat of terrorism and radicalization which had
affected both Pakistan and France.
It was acknowledged during 12th round of Pakistan-France
bilateral political consultations at the Foreign Secretary
level held in Paris.
Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry led the Pakistan
delegation while the French side was led by Christian Masset,
Secretary General of Foreign Affairs, said a press release on
Wednesday.

Fatemi, new Japanese envoy discuss bilateral issues

(SAPM) Tariq Fatemi and Japanese ambassador Takashi Kurai met here
Wednesday and discussed bilateral matters particularly related to
trade, investment, energy, health and education.
Welcoming the newly appointed ambassador, Fatemi expressed
confidence that Ambassador Kurai would impart a new vigour to the
existing level of bilateral relations between the two countries.
The SAPM briefed the Japanese envoy on the ongoing socio-

Govt to hold Asian libraries conference at AIOU

ISLAMABAD, May 4 (APP): First-ever Asian Libraries Conference
will be held here at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) in first week of
September this year to promote book-reading culture and strengthen
research-based academic work at higher education level.
It is being organized by the Pakistan Library Association in collaboration with AIOU and Department of Libraries. It will be a two-day event, to be participated by the representatives of national libraries from home and abroad.
It is aimed at enhancing regional cooperation in respect of knowledge
and resource sharing. The conference’s participants will exchange their
expertise and experience to make the library a strong source of academic research.
