President leaves for Islamabad

MULTAN, May 5 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain left for the federal capital after completing a day long visit to Multan on Thursday.
The President left for Islamabad by his special plane after attending a ceremony at a private medical college and meeting with delegations at the local circuit house.

President signs three Bills into law

ISLAMABAD, May 5 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain has signed
into law three Bills of various natures after they were adopted by
the National Assembly and Senate.
According to a President House statement issued Thursday, the
President accorded his assent to the ‘Equity Participation Fund
(Repeal) Bill, 2016’ approving the Prime Minister’s advice on a
summary, initiated by the Senate Secretariat.
On another summary initiated by Senate Secretariat, the President approved PM’s advice according his assent to the ‘Offences in Respect of Banks (Special Courts) (Amendment) Bill, 2016.’

Pakistan participates in U.N. International Bazaar in New York

UNITED NATIONS, May 5 (APP): A range of Pakistani products, both food  and merchandise were on display and for sale at the annual United Nations International Bazaar held on Wednesday at UN Headquarters in New York.

Braving cold weather and intermittent rain, a large number of people  visited the bazaar,  which was organized by the UN Women’s Guild (UNWG) in collaboration with permanent missions accredited to the United  Nations.

The event featured cuisine from around the world as well as fine arts  and handicrafts.

President summons Senate, National Assembly on May 9

ISLAMABAD, May 5 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain on
Thursday summoned the sessions of the Senate and the National Assembly on May 9.
According to a statement from the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the
President approved the Prime Minister’s advice and summoned the next session of the Senate on Monday at 3 pm in the Parliament Building.
The President approved the Prime Minister’s advice and
summoned the next session of the National Assembly also on Monday at 5 pm.

CPEC Parliamentary Committee to visit China from May 20

ISLAMABAD, May 5 (APP): A delegation of Parliamentary
Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would undertake week-long visit to China from May 20.
In this connection, Parliamentary Committee on China-
Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC met here at the Parliament House in a marathon session under the chairmanship of Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed.
The three-hour long meeting was briefed by the Chief
Minister Balochistan, Nawab Sanaullah Zehri and Minister for
Planning, Development and Reform, Ahsan Iqbal.

Winners of Hifz-o-Qirat competition awarded cash prizes

ISLAMABAD, May 5 (APP): Minister for Religious Affairs and
Interfaith Harmony, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf on Thursday distributed cash prizes and certificates among the winners of the Annual National Hifz-o-Qirat competition held here.
The distribution ceremony of cash prizes and certificates was
organized by the International Islamic Relief Organization (IIRO) and International Organization for Tahfeez-e-Quran Kareem.
Around 65 ‘Huffaz and Qurah’ from all over the country won the cash prizes with certificates in different categories.

Ban on new gas schemes for Parliamentarians lifted: Minister

ISLAMABAD, May 5 (APP): Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Thursday apprised the National Assembly Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Resources that Prime Minister had lifted ban on launching of new gas schemes for the Parliamentarians.
The meeting held here under the chairmanship of Chaudhry Bilal Ahmed Virk to discuss the current status of ongoing gas schemes of Parliamentarians, defaulting Industrial Consumers, Industrial Consumers involved in theft of gas and allocation of HSD/Motor Gasoline in the last week of each month to PSO retail stations.
He said that 38 percent gas had been added in the system after the import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

“Operation Combat” initiated against big rats in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, May 5 (APP): Since the fixing of head money for killing big
rats in provincial metropolis of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa did not yield positive results, the district administration of Peshawar has now announced “operation combat” against the exotic species of rats that had killed eight children and injured over 400 persons so far in the city.
The district administration has constituted a committee comprising
officials of Health, Agriculture and Water and Sanitation Department to
kick off house to house combat operation against the rats and their
multiplication, official sources said.
The district administration has initially released an amount of Rs One
million for the operation and research based action and the amount could further be increased up to Rs 10 million to wipe out the menace of rats from the city, it was informed.

Pakistan committed to facilitate Afghan transit trade: Envoy

ISLAMABAD, May 5 (APP): Pakistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan Syed
Abrar Hussain has stated that his country was fully committed to facilitate Afghan Transit Trade through Pakistan which would also help increase bilateral trade between the two neighbouring countries.
He said Pakistan was the largest and most important trade partner of
Afghanistan and efforts were being made to enhance the bilateral trade volume from existing US $ 2 billion to $ 5 billion in the near future.
The Ambassador made these remarks while addressing the inaugural
session of 4th “Made in Pakistan Exhibition” in Kabul, organized by the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with Pakistan Embassy and Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a message received here from Kabul on Thursday said.

PM appoints 2 Parliamentary Secretaries

ISLAMABAD, May 5 (APP): The Prime Minister has appointed
two Member of National Assemblies (MNAs) as Parliamentary Secretaries for the Ministries/Divisions.
According to the notification issued by the Ministry of
Parliamentary Affairs, Azhar Qayyum Nahara MNA has been appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Water and Power while MNA Mian Najeeb Uddin Awaisi has been appointed for Ministry of Commerce.
