Regaining National Champion Taimur wins 49th KP Amateur Golf Championship

PESHAWAR, May 08 (APP): Regaining National Champion Taimur Naseer clinched the coveted trophy of the prestigious and oldest 49th Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amateur Golf Championship after securing four under par
212 over 54-holes here at PAF Golf Course on Sunday.
Spotted, groomed, polished and supported by international golfer
Major Arshad Mehmood, former adviser to the than Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani on golf, the than President Pakistan Golf Federation, under a talent Hunt scheme, Taimur Naseer never looked behind and bagged almost all titles.
The talented Taimur recently won National Championship title,
followed by Chief of Army Staff Cup and now the prestigious 49th KP
Amateur Golf Championship and also win back laurel for the country by winning international events at India, Sri Lankan, Bangkok, Dubai, and Malaysia.

Mobile phone imports up 6.25% in 9 months

ISLAMABAD, May 8 (APP): The import of mobile phones into the country witnessed an increase of 6.25 per cent in first nine months (July-March) of the year 2015-16 as compared to same period of last year.
The mobile phone imports during first nine months of current fiscal year rose to US $573.284 million from $539.581 million in the same period of last year.
According to the latest data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the mobile phone imports also increased by 2.92 per cent and 19.05 per cent in March, 2016 as compared to March, 2015 and February, 2016 respectively.

Subh-e-Nau National Clay Court Tennis from Monday

ISLAMABAD, May 08 (APP): The Subh-e-Nau (SN) National Clay
Court Tennis Championship 2016 will roll into action on Monday
here at Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Complex.
The country’s top seed players would also be seen in action
in the six-day championship, a spokesman of Subh-e-Nau said on Sunday.
He said Pakistan number one Aqeel Khan, Davis Cupper M. Abid,
Shahzad khan, Heera Ashiq, M. Mudassar, M. Muzammil as well as top
seed lady players Sara Mansoor and Meheq Khokhar were among others who would participate in the event.

ISLAMABAD, May 08 (APP): Legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram has
criticized former cricketers, who refused to go through the process
of applying for the position of the national cricket team’s head
coach.
Wasim Akram along with former captain Rameez Raja was part of the
panel, appointed by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to shortlist
candidates for the new coach after the resignation of Waqar Younis
following the national team’s disappointing show in the ICC
World T20 2016.
Though the former captain did not take any name, his criticism
seemed directed towards former opening batsman Mohsin Khan and fast bowler Aaqib Javed – the duo who showed interest in the position but refused to go through the process.

Sports goods’ export increase 11% in 2 months

KARACHI, May 8 (APP): Zain Ehtisham qualified for the final in
U-10 while 10 other tennis players qualified for semi-finals in
Men’s singles, U-18, U-16, U-14, U-12, and U-45 Double respectively in
the 4th Essa Lab Open National Tennis championship.
The championship entered the 6th day on Sunday at the hard courts
of Karachi Gymkhana.
The prestigious week long championship, organized by Sindh
Tennis Association (STA), is being sponsored by Dr. Essa Laboratory &
Diagnostic Center Karachi. Championship carries cash prizes of
Rs.100,000.

Dar chairs committee to review Draft Amendment Bill relating to ECP members appointment

Committee on Electoral Reforms meets

ISLAMABAD, May 8 (APP): Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Sunday chaired a meeting of the Laws Review Committee and reviewed the progress on the Draft Amendment Bill relating to appointment of members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The committee also discussed and reviewed other ancillary matters which would come up for discussion at the meeting of Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms on Monday.
The committee also had discussion on the Draft Apprenticeship Bill, Credit Bureaus (Amendment) Ordinance, 2016 and Public Private Partnership Authority Bill, 2016 which have been pending consideration in the National Assembly and Senate.

KARACHI, May 8 (APP): Adviser to the Prime Minister on National
History and Literary Heritage Irfan Siddiqui Sunday said the opposition’s Terms of Reference (TORs) were not aimed at addressing the Panama Papers issue but to complicate the matter.
Talking to the media here, the Adviser said even serious opposition
personalities did not agree with those TORs as they considered the
same a person-specific.
The people were interested in, what he said, ‘Tamasha’ (theatre),
which was aimed at hampering the path of progress and development and creating instability in the country.

Pervaiz Rashid condemns Khurram Zaki’s murder
