RAWALPINDI, May 9 (APP):Rawalpindi Arts Council RAC arranged a Musical Night in honor of famous folk and sufi singer Qurban Niazi on being awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz.

Member Punjab Assembly Raja Hanif Advocate and MPA Tehseen Fawad were guests of honor accompanied by Naheed Manzoor and Resident Director Waqar Ahmed.

Member Punjab Assembly Raja Hanif Advocate speaking on the occasion said that Qurban Niazi served the folk music throughout his life.

Rain-thunderstorm likely in different parts of country

ISLAMABAD, May 9 (APP): Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD)
Monday forecast rain-thunderstorm for most parts of Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA and Kashmir during next 24 hours.

According to the synoptic situation, low pressure area was lying over
northeast Balochistan and its adjoining area with its trough extending southeastward.

Very hot and dry weather is expected over most parts of the country during the next 24 hours particularly Sindh and Balochistan.

ISLAMABAD, May 9 (APP): The large-scale initiative of China including
China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project will effectively serve long-term economic interests of several countries in region including Pakistan.

All Pakistan Business Forum (APBF) on Monday hailed robust investment plans and trans-national initiative of China for boosting cross-border trade activities.

In a statement issued here, President of APBF, Ibrahim Qureshi said
this pioneering venture inclusive of CPEC project, promised to bring great enrichments to legendary trade-route that had historically nurtured political, cultural and business relations all over the region.

Four-member Pakistan squash team off to Taiwan

ISLAMABAD, May 9 (APP): A four-member Pakistan contingent took off for Taiwan on Monday to participate in the Asian Senior Squash Championship.

Talking to APP, Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) Vice President Qamar
Zaman said the Squash Championship will be played in Taiwan from May 11 to 16.

“As many a four players and two officials will be representing Pakistan in the event,” he said.

Italian investors keen to invest in Pakistan’s construction sector

ISLAMABAD, May 9 (APP): A delegation of Italian investors Monday
visited Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry and showed keen interest to invest in Pakistan’s construction sector for constructing solar power based energy efficient residential, industrial and commercial buildings.

The delegation representing M/s. Natali Construction Company of Italy,
led by Dr. Fabrizio Fava and Giacoma Natali was of the view that construction style in Pakistan was highly energy inefficient as lot of electricity was being wasted and said that their highly energy efficient construction technology and style could save 10 times energy cost in
Pakistan.

The delegation was keen to immediately set up a branch in Pakistan to
introduce their construction style and technology and also wanted to know about the taxation system of Pakistan.

Never thought of being dishonest: Shoaib Akhtar

ISLAMABAD, May 9 (APP): Former pacer Shoaib Akhtar Monday said that though he had faced many controversies in his entire cricket career but he had never thought of being dishonest with the game.

According to a private news channel, Shoaib Akhtar, also known
as the Rawalpindi Express said the maximum number of audience encourage him and make him happy.

Shoaib, who made his test debut in November 1997 as an opening fast bowler, said that his hard work was known to him and his mother only.

NEW YORK, May 9 (APP): Pakistan’s culture defines its humanity and
reflects the spirit of a nation on the upsurge, Ambassador Maleeha Lodhi has said, while calling for promoting greater engagement across cultures to counter xenophobia.

“Today, the amazing outpouring of art and literature in Pakistan is the
most forceful response to a tiny minority that seeks to impose an alien orthodoxy,” she told a large and distinguished gathering amidst applause at the start of the festival, the first time a Pakistani cultural festival has been held abroad.

“Lahore has arrived in New York,” the Pakistani envoy said of the US
city known as the one that never sleeps. “Nor does Lahore by the way!” Lahore, she said, has led the national engagement with modernity and it  embodies the country’s unique identity as a modern nation and ancient civilization.

Lahore Cultural Festival, showcasing Pakistan’s talent, makes it mark in New York

celebrated Lahore Literary Festival (LLF) featuring lively discussions on a variety of subjects and showcasing Pakistan’s cultural mosaic of music, art, film-making and literature that kept the audience engrossed for more than seven hours in a packed hall of Asia Society.

“LLF is the most effective use of soft power, “Kati Marton, an award-winning American author and journalist remarked, while assessing the impact left behind by the festival, the first time a Pakistani literary festival has taken place abroad on Sunday.

She added that the 4-year-old festival, provided the people in this
creative city an opportunity to explore the cultural advancement in Pakistan.

No consultative meeting at PM House

ISLAMABAD, May 9 (APP): No political consultative meeting was held at the PM House on Monday.
The PM Office media wing briefly clarified that certain news item about holding of such a meeting was baseless.
It said that no such meeting was held at the PM House and any news in this regard was rebutted.

PM ready for transparent probe into Panama Papers: Zubair

ISLAMABAD, May 09 (APP): Minister of State for Privatization
Muhammad Zubair Monday said Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was ready for a transparent investigation into the Panama Papers.
The Prime Minister presented himself and his family for accountability soon after publishing of the Panama reports though his name was not mentioned, he said while talking to a news channel.
The minister said like other Pakistanis the Prime Minister’s
children were doing their business abroad which was not illegal.
