LAHORE, May 9 (APP)- Country’s top volleyball players will be seen in
action during Allied Bank 49th National Senior Men’s Volleyball
Championship being played from May 12 at the Liaquat Gymnasium of
Islamabad Sports Complex.
This was stated by Chairman, Pakistan Volleyball Federation, Ch.
Muhammad Yaqoob at a press conference here on Monday along with Tahir Yaqoob, Chief, Commercial Manger, ABL, the sponsors of the premier activity.
He said sixteen departmental and provincial teams are featuring in
the Championship and they have been divided into four groups.

Japanese investors welcome to Pakistan’s auto market: Dar
ISLAMABAD, May 09 (APP): Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq
Dar Monday said Japanese investors were welcome to Pakistan’s auto
market.
The auto policy announced by the present government was aimed at attracting foreign investment which would in turn strengthen its
endeavours to achieve growth and employment generation, he added.
The minister was talking to new Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan
Takashi Kurai, who paid a courtesy call on him here.
Meeting reviews preparations for IDB meeting
ISLAMABAD, May 9 (APP): Finance Minister, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar on Monday chaired a meeting which reviewed preparations of Pakistan’s delegation for attending the upcoming Islamic Development Bank Annual General meetings in Jakarta.
Secretary Economic Affairs Division (EAD) Tariq Bajwa, briefed the meeting about the schedule of different events to be held during the annual general meeting of IDB from May 17-19.
The Minister gave instructions for completing all the preparations in time to ensure active participation of Pakistan’s delegation at the meeting.
President for creating awareness about Thalassemia
ISLAMABAD, May 9 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain on Monday underlined the need for creating awareness among people for prevention of Thalassemia noting that lack of education, unsafe blood transfusions and ignorance from basic principles of hygiene lead to the spread of this fatal disease.
He emphasized that educational institutions, teachers and Ulemas can play an important role for sensitizing the public against this disease.
The President said this while addressing the Awareness Campaign on the occasion of “World Thalassemia Day” organized by Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal here.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to reject PTI in PK-8 by-poll: Kirmani
ISLAMABAD, May 9 (APP): Special Advisor to Prime Minister Dr Asif Kirmani Monday said that people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would reject the political party in by-poll of PK-8 constituency that had electioneered against London’s mayoral candidate Sadiq Khan.
In a statement issued here, Asif Kirmani said that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would bring an end to the politics of lies and cheating on May 12.
He recalled that in the past, the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had supported Muslim League and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah
through referendum.

LAHORE, May 9 (APP): ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) Retail Chains and Franchise Federation, one of the leading groups of companies in Malaysia Monday showed keen interest in setting up here a state-of-the-art amusement park.
The Group’s delegation disclosed this here in a meeting with Punjab
Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) CEO Ms. Amena Cheema.
The delegation members told the PBIT team that for this project 300
acres of land would be needed at a place that was easily accessible, ideally near the motorway.
SBP issues prepaid card regulations
ISLAMABAD, May 9 (APP): In order to promote electronic payments in Pakistan by introducing alternate digital means of payments and achieve greater financial inclusion by taking advantage of the technological developments in the card industry, SBP has issued Prepaid Card Regulations.
A statement of the Central Bank issued on Monday said prepaid Card is a payment instrument built around a pay early, spend later model rather than the pay now and pay later models used in debit and credit cards respectively.
Prepaid Cards are considered ideal for giving unbanked segments of the population a flavor of formal financial products without the need of opening a formal banking account.
Contribution of ‘Ancient Pakistan’ to human civilization well-recognized in world: Pervaiz
ISLAMABAD, May 9 (APP):Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage, Senator Pervaiz Rashid Monday said the contribution of ‘Ancient Pakistan to development of human civilization was well-recognized across the world.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a three-day ‘Ancient Pakistan’ exhibition here at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he said “Pakistan is a prehistoric land.”
The minister said the celebration of ancient Pakistan by Ministry of Foreign Affairs was a praiseworthy initiative.
Govt done away with several bad traditions: Pervaiz
ISLAMABAD, May 09 (APP): Federal Minister for Information,
Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid Monday
said the present government had done away with several bad traditions
of the past, including the secret fund maintained by the
Information Ministry.
Speaking in the meeting of Senate’s Standing Committee on
IB&NH chaired by Kamil Ali Agha, the minister said, “The PPP and
PML-Q governments had misused the secret fund created with tax
payers money for political, personal and party benefits.”
He said the present government believed in transparency
and it was ready to face accountability for its three years rule.
Energy shortage to be overcome by 2018: Khawja Asif
ISLAMABAD, May 9, (APP): Federal Minister for Water and Power, Khawaja Muhammad Asif Monday said government would be able to overcome electricity shortage across the country by 2018 after completion of several mega projects of energy generation.
He was speaking in Senate in response of a seeking recommendation to
government for release of funds to convert tub wells into solar system in Balochistan.
He said government had allocated Rs 20 billions for PSDP projects in
Balochistan but the provincial government did not give a single project, which led to the laps of funds.
