LAHORE, May 11 (APP): Former prime minister Syed
Yusuf Raza Gilani‘s son Ali Haider Gilani arrived
here on Wednesday in the prime minister‘s special plane.

Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani along with other family members
received him at the airport. Overjoyed, Ali Haider Gilani lifted his son Jamaluddin in his arms and expressed his happiness.

Emotional scenes were also witnessed at his residence
in Defence where his mother Fouzia Gilani received him with tears of joy.

202 Army troops left for Darfur,Sudan

LAHORE,May 11 (APP): A batch of 202 Pakistan Army troops
left here on Wednesday to perform peace keeping duties under the aegis of United Nations Mission in Darfur,Sudan.

According to ISPR, Brigadier Riaz Ahmed bade them
farewell at the Allama Iqbal International Airport, prior to their departure on a UN chartered aircraft. The departing troops will replace the already deployed Pakistan Army Contingent in strife torn country as part of the relieve and rotation schedule.

Speaking to troops,Brigadier Riaz Ahmed said that
Pakistan Army had added glorious chapters in the annals of peace keeping history by rendering dedicated services for the restoration of peace all over the globe.

Mission oriented strategies to be followed for resolving Kashmir issue: Minister

ISLAMABAD, May 11 (APP): Federal Minister for States and Frontier
Region, Senator Lt.Gen (Retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch on Tuesday said mission oriented strategies are required for a long term solution of Kashmir.

He said it is not an era of conventional or traditionally war,
now we are facing non cognitive war, which focuses to weak the nations internally, he said.

Addressing a seminar ‘Human Rights, Youth and the Issue of
Jammu and Kashmir’,organized by Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), as chief guest he said when nations are free, their identity is based on their vital national interest.

ISLAMABAD, May 11 (APP): The unsuccessful applicants of
Government Hajj Scheme should avoid approaching the Ministry of
Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony for inclusion of their
names in the scheme on Parliamentarians’ quota.

Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar
Muhammad Yousaf in a statement said that the ministry had already
allocated its available quota of 69,534 to the applicants in a
transparent balloting.

No quota had been reserved for senators, members of national
as well as provincial assemblies on the directives of Prime
Minister, he said.

Pakistan to develop rail corridors for trade with Afghanistan, Iran

ISLAMABAD, May 11 (APP): Commerce Minister Engineer
Khurram Dastagir Khan said Wednesday that Pakistan was deeply
interested in laying modern rail tracks and refurbishing of
existing routes for direct and transit trade with Afghanistan
and Iran.

Chairing a meeting held here with business delegation
from South Africa, the minister said the govt considers rail
tracks as trade corridors because these would play vital role
in boosting Pakistani exports and facilitate transit trades.

The delegation was led by Willem Goosen of M/s Grindrod
Rail, Multi Continent Investment Company while Asfhaq Anwar,
a Pakistani businessman in South Africa also accompanied the
visiting businessmen.

AGP calls on British High Commissioner

ISLAMABAD, May 11 (APP): British High Commissioner Thomas Drew called on Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Ashtar Ausaf Ali at his office on Wednesday.
The two discussed Britain’s continuing contribution to Pakistan’s
legal development, as well as the training of prosecutors and
investigators.
The AGP appreciated the strides made towards strengthening the
capacity of the justice system, and the varied and constructive
initiatives being undertaken by the Department for International Development, among other international agencies.

UN conference in Turkey May 27 29 to review progress of least developed countries

UNITED NATIONS, May 11 (APP): A United Nations conference is set to undertake a review of progress made during the past five years by the world’s 48 least developed countries (LDCs), which comprise about 12 per cent of the global population.

Called the Midterm Review conference for the Istanbul Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries, it will take place in Antalya, in the south of Turkey, from May 27 to 29.

Adopted in 2011, the Istanbul Programme of Action (IPoA) is a plan that charts out the international community’s vision and strategy for the sustainable development of LDCs for the next decade.

Budgetary allocation for education being increased: Baligh

ISLAMABAD, May 11 (APP): Minister for Federal Education and
Professional Training Baligh Ur Rehman Wednesday said the government was taking concrete measures to increase budgetary allocation for education.
During question-hour in the senate, the minister said the expenditure
on education was around two percent of GDP, which was steadily increasing according to fiscal space.
All governments including federal and provincial were committed to
achieve four percent of GDP, he added.

UN chief regrets execution of BD leader Nizami

UNITED NATIONS, Dec 14 (APP): UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
regrets the hanging of the Jamat-i-Islami (JI) Bangladesh chief Motiur Rahman Nizami after a decision by a controversial war crimes tribunal
for his involvement in 1971 events, his spokesman said Wednesday.
Responding to a question at the regular noon briefing, Spokesman
Stephane Dujarric said the UN chief stands against the death penalty
under any circumstances, reflecting the global trend away from capital punishment.
“We raised our concern to Bangladesh over the handling of this
case,” he added.

Portugal envoy resolves to promote bilateral trade

LAHORE, May 11 (APP): Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan, Dr. Joao Paulo Sabido Costa, said on Wednesday that Portugal was a gateway for Pakistani community for entering into European countries as Portugal was the country with least of cost of ease of doing business.
During his visit to regional office of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) here, the Ambassador appreciated role of the FPCCI for trade promotion and assured his full support to enhance bilateral trade.
The FPCCI Regional Chairman Mian Rehman Aziz welcomed Dr. Joao Paulo Sabido Costa, and discussed with him various matters of mutual interest.
