ISLAMABAD, May 14 (APP): Two batches. consisting 190
Pakistanis, had been deported from Greece to Turkey, said
Pakistan Embassy in Ankara, Turkey.

It also termed the information as incorrect which
had put the numbers of deported Pakistanis to 500.

Out of 55 batch, a total of 31 were repatriated to
Pakistan whereas other 159 would be repatriated after
verification of their national identity and subsequent completion of other formalities, said a press release of the Foreign Office, referring to Embassy’s clarification on Saturday.

The Turkish authorities have also refuted claims
that the detainess were without food, it added.

About 1,000 refugees and migrants rescued off Italian coast—UN refugee agency

UNITED NATIONS, May 14 (APP): Some 1,000 people of various nationalities, including refugee families and unaccompanied children, have been rescued from the Mediterranean Sea, the UN refugee agency said Friday.

In one operation carried out on Thursday, about 500 people travelling in two fishing boats that had departed several days earlier from Egypt were rescued off Sicily, south east of Cape Passero, William Spindler, spokesperson of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said in a regular bi weekly news briefing to reporters at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

According to the Italian Coastguard, there are some Syrians and Iraqis among this group, as well as people from other nationalities.
Apart from the two fishing boats that sailed from Egypt, it is believed that there were other smaller boats that came from Libya, the spokesperson said.

CPJ calls for probe into killing of two Indian journalists

NEW YORK, May 13 (APP): The Committee to Protect Journalists, an
independent watchdog body, Friday called on investigators in the central Indian states of Bihar and Jharkhand to act quickly to bring the killers of journalists Akhilesh Pratap and Rajdev Ranjan to justice.

Unknown men today shot Rajdev Ranjan, the Hindi national daily newspaper Hindustan’s bureau chief for Siwan, at close range, according to press reports.

His killing came less than 24 hours after the murder of Akhilesh Pratap,
a journalist for Taza TV in Chatra, in the neighbouring state of Jharkhand.

Lok Virsa to screen Japanese film on Saturday

ISLAMABAD, May 13 (APP): Lok Virsa Mandwa Film Club would organize screening of Japanese film “Always Sunset at Third Street” on Saturday at Lok Virsa Media Center.

‘Always: Sunset on Third Street’ is a 2005 Japanese film co-written and directed by the Japanese filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki, based on Ryohei Saigan’s long-running ‘manga Sanchome no Yuhi’.

It was chosen as best film at the Japan academy prize ceremony.

Youth drama festival to start at PNCA from May 16

ISLAMABAD, May 13 (APP): Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) would organize a week-long youth drama festival 2016 from May 16 at PNCA auditorium.

During week-long drama festival a number of educational institutions including universities and colleges would present their stage plays.

Various theater groups will also perform during the festival with their plays based on social issues, said an official of PNCA. Around eight plays will be staged at the festival while best plays will be awarded in various categories.

Training camp for ODIs against West Indies underway

ISLAMABAD, May 13 (APP): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to send the national team to England in June for a two-weeks training camp prior to their series in July so as to get them familiarize with conditions there.

Talking to APP, a top PCB official said the team will be sent to England on June 14 or 15 for a two-weeks training camp. “Pakistan team will train for two weeks in the Rose Bowl cricket ground in Hampshire, England,” he said.

He said chief selector Inzamam ul Haq and head coach Mickey Arthur were serious in having the team to prepare in England prior to the series.

PCB looking to host home series in SL, SA in future

ISLAMABAD, May 13 (APP): Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday said it is looking for options to move their base from United Arab Emirates (UAE) for staging its home series in future because of financial considerations, revealing that Sri Lanka and South Africa are the top contenders for their neutral venue.

Talking to APP, a top PCB official said “we have been unable to make profits from our series held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)”.

“The UAE have started charging us too much therefore we have decided to shift our base from UAE to other countries,” he said adding just because to host our home series in the UAE the board had already lost millions of dollars.

closing ceremony of Pakistan National Chess Championship held Thursday evening.

Sindh Ministers Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Fayaz Ali Butt distributed prizes among Chess Masters and participants of Pakistan National Chess Championship on conclusion of the championship Thursday.

Chess Masters would compete in 42nd Chess Olympiad to be held from September 1-14,2016 in Baku, Azerbhaijan in which teams from 175 countries are participating.

33rd death anniversary of film actor Allauddin observed

ISLAMABAD, May 13 (APP): Thirty-third death anniversary of the legend film actor Allauddin is being observed on Friday.

Born in 1923 in Rawalpindi, he worked in Pakistani movies and his film career spanned over four decades. He made his debut with Mela in 1948 while his lst released film was Dushmani in 1990.

His famous film include Mehbooba, Anokhi, Wada, Paatey Khan, Peenghan, Baghi, Mirza Saheban and Umraujan Ada.
