Interest free loans worth Rs 3.4 bln distributed under PM’s scheme: Leila

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Chairperson Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Ms Leila Khan Tuesday said about 161,840 loans worth Rs 3.4 billion had been distributed under the Prime Minister’s Interest Free Loan Scheme amongst the poorest of the poor.

Chairing a meeting of Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) here, she expressed satisfaction over achievements of the scheme, under which interest free loans were distributed among the poor from 287 Union Councils of 44 districts across the country.

She said these loans had enabled households in establishing their own businesses in livestock, petty trading, agriculture, stitching, embroidery, handicrafts and small scale rural manufacturing, raising living standards of around one million population.

Ahsan Iqbal calls for political stability for growth, development

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Federal Minister Planning, Development and Reform Ahsan Iqbal Tuesday said that political instability and inconsistency in policies, poor investment in infrastructure, wrong economic policies and disjointed governance cost dearly in the past.

“We will not let mistakes of the past to be repeated.

Pakistan’s  Vision-2025 has put country on path of transformation and building a modern economy,” he said.

country, the DG ISPR in a tweet said it was a focused visit and the strategic relationship manifested in talks and interactions.

SNGPL incurs Rs 83,545 mln non-development expenditure in three years: Senate told

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources Jam Kamal Khan Tuesday said the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) had incurred Rs 40,576 million expenditure (capital expenditure) and Rs 83,545 million non-development expenditure (operating cost) during the last three years.

Replying to a question in the Senate, the minister said the company took prior approval of budgets for incurring its expenditures from the regulator (OGRA) and the Board of Directors.

He added the reduction either in development or non-development expenditure of the company fell within the ambit and scrutiny of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

Parliament best forum to resolve all issues: Khurram Dastgir

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Minister for Commerce Engineer Khurram Dastgir Tuesday said the Parliament was the best forum for resolving all issues and the opposition should discuss all matters in the parliament rather than any other place.

Talking to PTV, he said the Prime Minister had presented himself and his family for accountability in front of any forum regarding Panama Papers’ investigation, The Prime Minister did not want any type of immunity and he believed in politics of respect rather revenge, he said.
He said that opposition had staged a walkout after being knocked-out by the Prime Minister’s address in the National Assembly.

PHC in Sri Lanka invites applications for Jinnah Scholarship

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Pakistan High Commission in Sri Lanka has invited applications for award of Jinnah Scholarship from the deserving Sri Lankan students pursuing their studies at O and A levels.

The Government of Pakistan is awarding Jinnah Scholarships for Sri Lanka O/A levels students for the past 11 years through its High Commission in Sri Lanka.

The scholarships are named after the great statesman and great leader of Sub continent Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah who is the founder of Pakistan, said a message received here Tuesday.

Rabbani for making CCI more vibrant, functional

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani Tuesday said Council of Common Interest (CCI) should be made more effective and functional keeping in view its importance in the federation.

Giving his remarks on debate in the Senate on annual reports of CCI for the year (2013-14, 2014-15), he said when federating units realized that they had been involved and had stakes, then the federation would be more strong and they would defend it.

He said, “if Parliament was brain in a democratic system then CCI was heart. If heart is not allowed to function, then body goes on ventilator.”

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Minister for Information Technology Anusha Rahman Tuesday said that nothing was proved against Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in past probes.

Talking to a private news channel, she said that it was very
unfortunate that whenever the country was on track to development and prosperity such conspiracies were hatched against the elected government.

The minister said allegations were also levelled against the Prime Minister in Musharraf regime but not a single case was proved.

Pakistan’s Western part to be hub of international investment soon: Dastgir

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Minister for Commerce, Engineer Khurram
Dastgir Khan Tuesday said that the Western part of Pakistan would be the hub of international investment in the near future with the development and connectivity projects linking South and Central Asia.

“This will provide innumerable opportunities of economic engagement
for the technologically advanced countries to invest in Pakistan and the region”, Khurram Dastgir said during his meeting with the Chairman of the Italian Industrial Federation for Airspace, Defence and Security, Guido Crosetto here.

Mr. Guido informed the meeting that the Italian companies with higher technological value were keen to expand and deepen civil and military cooperation between the two countries.

Pakistan, China economic ties also benefit region: Awais

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Pakistan and China have greatly expanded economic dimension of their relationship as China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was a flagship initiative in this regard which would speed up economic cooperation and connectivity.
