US Ambassador calls on Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): US Ambassador David Hale Tuesday called on Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and discussed matters of mutual interest.

The US Ambassador apprised the Finance Minister about the Pak-US Business Opportunities Conference scheduled to be held in New York in the first week of June 2016.

He said the event would help businessmen from both sides to forge economic collaboration.

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): International Shoaib Khan of Peshawar created major upset in junior U-18 Singles’ first round match of 1st HASCOL National Ranking Tennis Championships, 2016 when he eliminated 5th seed Barkatullah of his own city in a three-set long dual on Tuesday here at PTF Tennis Complex.

The match lasted for two hours and 15 minutes and score in favour of  Shoaib Khan was 4/6 6/4 7/6 (2).

It is pertinent to mention that in the last tournament, he created major upset by defeating top Junior Muzammil in straight sets and showed his promise that he is going to make a significant impact in Pakistan Tennis.

LAHORE, May 17 (APP): Ajoka Theatre staged a play “Koun Hay Yeh Gustakh” here on Tuesday at Alhamra Lahore.

The play is based on the biography of Sa’adat Hassan Mintoo.

The Ajoka Theatre will stage another play “Lo Phir Basant Aye” on Wednesday. These plays are being staged on the thirty second founding anniversary of Ajoka Theatre.

Pervaiz for establishing peace zones in Afghanistan nearing Pak- Afghan border

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid Tuesday said that peace zones should be established in Afghanistan near Pak-Afghan border so that the people are not forced to migrate to Pakistan.

He said the world community including regional states and especially international organizations should help Afghanistan to build economic opportunities, skills and development to the war threatened people.

He was speaking at the concluding ceremony of a two-day conference on “Refugee Crisis and its Ramifications for Global and National Security,” organized by South Asian Strategic Stability Institute (SASSI) University here.

Discriminatory approaches negatively impact South Asia’s stability: Fatemi

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi Tuesday said strategic stability in the South Asia was negatively impacted by discriminatory approaches and deviation from established non-proliferation norms.

Tariq Fatemi, in his statement at the Conference on Disarmament Plenary Meeting held in Geneva, said to ensure South Asia’s long term peace, stability and prosperity, it was essential for the international community to adopt an approach that was even-handed and criteria-based rather than driven by strategic and commercial considerations or political expediency.

“As a responsible nuclear state, Pakistan desires to contribute to global efforts towards non-proliferation and disarmament on an equal footing as a mainstream partner of the international community.”

PEMRA issues notices to Dunya News, Channel-24 for airing objectionable contents

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Tuesday issued show cause notices to Dunya News and Channel 24 for live airing objectionable contents on May 15.

The notices have been served to the television channels for the live telecast of the news conference of leaders of the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Allam Raja Abbasi Jafri and Sunni Ittehad Council’s Sahibzada Hamid Raza Khan in which they used inappropriate language against judiciary and army, particularly the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

According a PEMRA press release, the authority had given warning to all TV channels time and again to be responsible while reporting on the matters relating to judiciary and army.

ISLAMABAD, May 17 (APP): President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday summoned the joint sitting of Parliament on June 2 (Thursday) at 11.00 a.m. in the Parliament House.

The President, in this respect, has approved the Prime Minister’s advice on a summary initiated by the Parliamentary Affairs Division.

Shehbaz thanks China for releasing first installment of OLMT

LAHORE,May 17 (APP): Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has thanked Chinese government and leadership for handing over funds of 33 billion rupees to Pakistan for Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) Lahore project.

He said that despite propaganda, speculations and doubts, provision of installment of 33 billion rupees for the project by Exim Bank of China reflects full confidence of China in the leadership and policies of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, as well as Punjab government.

He said that Chinese Prime Minister has described Orange Line Metro Train as a gift for Pakistan.
