Chinese Mela to celebrate Pak-China diplomatic relations from May 21

ISLAMABAD, May 19 (APP): National Institute of Folk and
Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) would organize two-day ‘Chinese Mela’ from May 21 in Line with 65th annual celebrations of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.

The event would be organized in collaboration with China
Embassy. The ‘Mela’ would highlight the Chinese Culture, cuisine and photo exhibition along with Pakistani Artisans and music would also be arranged.

The performers would present fusion of Pakistani and Chinese culture and traditions with a focus on performing arts of both countries, an official of Lok Virsa told APP.

Pakistan to host Asia Kabaddi Cup 2022, World Cup 2024

FAISALABAD, May 19 (APP): A floodlight Kabaddi tournament will be organised at Iqbal Stadium Faisalabad here on Friday (May 20).

President Punjab Kabaddi Circle Association, Naseer Yousuf Vohra said on Thursday that well known players will take part in this tournament for which arrangements have been completed.

He said entry for the spectators will be free of cost.

Youth drama festival in full swing at PNCA

ISLAMABAD, May 19 (APP): A week-long youth drama festival in full swing here at Pakistan National Council Of Arts (PNCA), attracting a large number of people from twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The students of various education institutions are participating in the week-long drama festival. The event was specially arranged by the Council to hunt the new talent and encourage the youth of the country.

A large number of people from different walks of life are daily
attending the festival and enjoying the plays being performed by the students of various institutions.

NA passes 22nd Constitution Amendment Bill, 2016 on eligibility criteria for appointment of CEC, Members of ECP

ISLAMABAD, May 19 (APP): The National Assembly on Thursday passed [The Constitution (22nd Amendment) Bill, 2016] unanimously with two third majority on eligibility criteria for appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and members of the Election Commission of Pakistan
(ECP).

The bill was moved by Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid.

According to the law, at present only retired Judges of Supreme Court or High Court are eligible for appointment as chief election commissioner or members, respectively. Now after amendment, in addition to retired judges of Supreme Court or High Court, retired senior bureaucrats or senior civil servants and technocrats will also be eligible for appointment as chief election commissioner or a member.

GILGIT, May 19 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Thursday said the ambitious China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would not only bring prosperity to the region but also help put an end to extremism and terrorism.

Addressing the ground breaking of the 820 km long Optic Fibre Cable linkage between Khunjrab and Rawalpindi, the Prime Minister also directed extending its linkages to other CPEC project areas.

The Prime Minister said the world has transformed over the
years and now “Knowledge-based economy” was the buzzword. He urged the youth, particularly of Gilgit and Baltistan to get ready for the challenges ahead and strive for excellence.

GILGIT, May 19 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Thursday administered oath of office to six members; elected by the Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly.

The Prime Minister in his capacity as Chairman Gilgit
Baltistan Council administered the oath.

The six new members who joined the 12-member Council after their oath include Syed Afzal, Sultan Ali Khan, Ashraf Sada, Syed Abbas Rizvi, Arman Shah and Wazir Ikhlaq Hussain.

Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Richard Olson Thursday congratulated Finance Minister, Muhammad Ishaq Dar on successful conclusion of 11th review under Extended Fund Facility with International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Richard Olson who called on Finance Minister here was accompanied by US Ambassador, David Hale.

GILGIT, May 19 (APP): Gilgit Baltistan Council, in its 9th session chaired by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif here on Thursday, approved the council’s annual budget of Rs 831.925 million for the fiscal year 2015 16.

Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Barjees Tahir while initiating proceedings of the session, expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for personally coming to Gilgit Baltistan (GB), for the Session.

Barjees Tahir expressed the hope that Members of the Council would deliberate and make decisions to realize the vision of Prime Minister for the development and prosperity of Gilgit Baltistan at par with rest of the country.

National Savings collects Rs 201 bln in 10 months

ISLAMABAD, May 19 (APP): Central Directorate of National
Savings (CDNS) collected Rs 201 billion against the proportionate target of Rs 253 billion by May 5, during the current fiscal year (2015-16), a CDNS official said on Thursday.

The official said that the estimated target of the national
savings for the year 2015-16 had been set at Rs 304 billion.

Likewise, he said during the first quarter of the current
fiscal year, the CDNS collected Rs 82 bln against the
proportionate target of Rs 66 bln.

Chinese Admiral Wu Shengli holds Pakistan's highest military award

KARACHI, May 19 (APP): Admiral Wu Shengli, Commander PLA (Navy) China, has been conferred with Pakistan’s highest Military Award, Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military), Thursday.

The Award has been conferred in recognition of his distinguished  services and significant contributions in strengthening the bilateral relations between Pakistan and China in general and Navies of both the friendly nations in particular, said a statement.

Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Quadir
Baloch conferred the award at an impressive ceremony held here at Pakistan Navy Dockyard.
