Govt to ensure full use of SIFC forum for economic development: Kakar

ISLAMABAD, Aug 17 (APP):Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Thursday said that the government would ensure full use of the forum of Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) to carry forward the development agenda.
Terming the SIFC a ray of hope for Pakistan’s economic development, the prime minister said the government would focus on development of different sectors under the Council’s umbrella.
Addressing a meeting held here in connection with the working of SIFC, Prime Minister Kakar said the caretaker government during its short tenure would fully devote all its energies to the stability and progress of the economy.
He directed to harmonize the regulatory structure with the contemporary international requirements to improve the energy sector.
He said Pakistan had vast potential for foreign investment in the fields of agriculture, mining and minerals, information technology, energy and defence production.
During the meeting, Secretary SIFC Jahanzeb Khan and Secretary Implementation Jameel Ahmed Qureshi briefed the prime minister about the steps taken to bolster foreign direct investment.
PM Kakar was also apprised about the whole of government approach under SIFC to increase the foreign investment by facilitating investors.
The meeting was further informed that under the forum, the government would provide one window facility to the investors for different projects.
The prime minister appreciated the efforts of Jahanzeb Khan and Jamil Ahmed Qureshi for bringing investment in the country, adding the SIFC would play a vital role in improving the economy.
He said there was huge potential for foreign investment in the infrastructure and tourism sectors.

Inter-religious harmony committee strongly condemns Jaranwala incident

RAWALPINDI, Aug 17 (APP): Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi Hasan Waqar Cheema and City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Hamdani while chairing a meeting of Inter-Religious Harmony Committee here on Thursday, strongly condemned the Jaranwala incident and said that no one would be allowed to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the district.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue, Nabil Riaz Sindhu, District Khatib Hafiz Iqbal Rizvi, Father Azam of the Christian community, Pastor Daniel Bhatti, Pastor Karamat, Maulana Izhar Hussain Bukhari, President Anjuman Tajaran Rawalpindi Shahid Ghafoor Paracha, Shaukat Jafri and other religious scholars attended the meeting.
The scholars of all schools of thought expressed their solidarity with the Christian community on Jaranwala incident.
“We stand side by side with the Christian community,” they added.
Leaders of all religions have always played a key role in maintaining the atmosphere of law and order in Rawalpindi district, the DC said.
“We strongly condemn the Jaranwala incident,” he said adding, no one would be allowed to create law and order situation in Rawalpindi.
Jardanwala tragedy is an attempt to disturb the peace of the country, the CPO said and added that the accused involved in Jaranwala incident would be given exemplary punishment. Security has been beefed up at all the churches in the district, he informed and urged the ulemas that the religious scholars should spread the teachings of peace and brotherhood in their Friday sermons.
Later, the DC and CPO also visited various churches and expressed solidarity with the Christian community.
During the visit, they also inspected security arrangements made at the Churches.

Taimoor to face Indian on Aug 26

ISLAMABAD, Aug 17 (APP): Pakistani boxer and Asian Boxing Federation Heavyweight Champion Taimoor Khan would face India’s Jaskaran Singh in a bout at Dubai on August 26.
Taimoor said the bout was part of the Word Boxing Association’s (WBA) Colour World Cup World Tour.
It may be mentioned that Taimoor Khan retained his Asian Boxing Federation Heavyweight Championship title after defeating his Thai counterpart, Aekkaphob Auraiwan, in a highly-anticipated bout in Bangkok earlier this year.
Taimoor who knocked out his opponent in the second round to defend his title and extended his overall fight record to seven wins, which now include six knockouts, said he would fully prepare for the fight.
