Islamabad police to enhance traffic management, safety measures

ISLAMABAD, Aug 17 (APP):Islamabad police have decided to enhance traffic management and safety measures for a safe road environment in the city.
In line with the directives from Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan, Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO), the Chief Police Officer (CPO) of Safe City/Traffic Shoaib Janbaz convened a significant gathering at Safe City Islamabad to discuss and strategize traffic-related matters.
Present at the meeting were key personnel, including the Chief Traffic Officer of Islamabad, the AIG General and Development, and the SSP Logistics, according to a police public relations statement.
During the session, the CPO Safe City/Traffic issued crucial directives aimed at integrating modern technological systems into the printing of driving licenses, while also emphasizing the importance of maintaining the current procedural standards.
Furthermore, the officials were instructed to enhance the effectiveness of drone cameras and refine their Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Deliberations encompassed a wide range of traffic-related concerns, with a strong emphasis on enforcing traffic regulations, curtailing the frequency of repeated offences, and imposing stricter penalties on habitual traffic violators.
The discussion also highlighted the need to expedite the collection of outstanding fines from prior violations. The CPO Safe City/Traffic underscored that addressing the recurrence of traffic transgressions is pivotal in reducing the occurrence of traffic accidents.

Suspension of PHF office-bearers not to affect national team’s preparations for Asian Games, DG PSB

ISLAMABAD, Aug 17 (APP):The national hockey team’s preparations for national and international events will not be affected by the suspension of office-bearers of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), Director General of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Shoaib Khoso said on Thursday.
A notification issued by the PSB on Thursday about the suspension of office-bearers of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) had cast doubt on the holding of the camp for the Asian Games but the DG PSB clarified that as the team management and selection committee were intact, the preparation of the national outfit for the Games would not be affected.
Around 35 probables and ten officials are set to attend the one-month training camp, commencing on Sunday at Naseer Bunda Hockey Ground Islamabad to prepare the national team for the coveted Games, which also serve as qualifiers for next year’s Paris Olympics.
“If you look at the notification it is clearly mentioned that the selection committee and team management will continue to function,” Khoso told APP.
“The board is bearing all the camp expenditures. The preparation and participation of the national team in the national and international events will not be disrupted,” he said.
According to the notification, the PHF officials were suspended on the instructions of the Prime Minister’s Office. It said that scrutiny of clubs across the country should be conducted under the supervision of the sports board.
The notification stated that the PHF election process under the supervision of the PSB should be completed in a transparent manner as soon as possible.

Six international cricketers to attend PCB Level-2 Cricket Coach course

LAHORE, Aug 17 (APP):Six Pakistan internationals (men and women) cricketers are among the 30 participants who have registered for the six-day Level 2 Cricket Coach course. The course will be held at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore from 18 to 23 August.
Pakistan international players include Aimen Anwar (8 ODIs, 37 T20Is), Imran Butt (6 Tests), Javeria Khan (116 ODIs, 112 T20Is), Javeria Rauf (4 ODIs, 13 T20Is), Mansoor Amjad (1 ODI, 1 T20I) and Sajid Khan (7 Tests).
The Level 2 course participants will be taught on advance coaching skills which include how to deduct errors and rectifying it through video analysis. This also includes work on communications skills, mental and physical strength, nutrition, planning and creating plans to help players graduate to the next level.
The course will be conducted by NCA coaches Shahid Aslam, Rahat Abbas Asadi, Imran Abbas, Rao Iftikhar Anjum, Mauhtashim Rashid, Umar Rashid, Saqib Faqir and Yasir Malik.
At the conclusion of the course, the participants will be given three months to complete their assignments. The successful participants will be awarded Level 2 coaching certificates.

U.S. Consul General calls on Chairman Management Committee Zaka Ashraf

LAHORE, Aug 17 (APP):U.S. Consul General William K. Makaniol, accompanied by his wife, paid a courtesy visit to Pakistan Cricket Board Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf at the Gaddafi Stadium, here on Thursday.
The meeting was held as part of farewell meetings for the U.S Consul General, whose two-year term is coming to an end.
The meeting was held in a cordial manner, wherein as a gesture of solidarity, the U.S. Consul General pledged the support of the United States Government for the handicapped cricket team in Pakistan.
Zaka Ashraf extended his best wishes to the U.S. Consul General for his future endeavours, and emphasised the significance of sports diplomacy in developing good relations between both countries.
In return, the U.S. Consul General expressed his wishes to Zaka Ashraf and the PCB for the upcoming events.

Water level at Mangla Dam reaches to its peak

MIRPUR (AJK), Aug 17 (APP):Water level in the Mangla dam reached very much close to maximum level  after only 0.25 feet of water was away of  maximum 1242.00 feet of the water level in the reservoir on Thursday.
According to the official sources, the water level in the reservoir was recorded as 1241.75 feet against maximum conservation level of 1242.00 feet with live storage of 7.336 MAF.
Jhelum River to the reservoir at Mangla was reported 38700 cusecs with the outflows of 10000 cusecs from the reservoir,  the sources added.
The overall position of the river inflows and outflows at Tarbela, Mangla and Chashma along with the reservoirs levels and the barrages were

The inflows and outflows of River Indus at Tarbela, Jinnah and Chashma, River Kabul at Nowshera and River Jhelum at Mangla have been reflected as mean flows of 24 hours, whereas the other flows have been gauged at 6.00 a.m.

Gold rates up by Rs 1,200 to Rs 225,000 per tola

ISLAMABAD, Aug 17 (APP):The per tola price of 24 karat gold increased by Rs 1,200 and was sold at Rs 225,000 on Thursday compared to its sale at Rs 223,800 on the previous day.
The price of 10 grams of 24 karat gold also increased by Rs 1,029 to Rs 192,901 from Rs 191,872 whereas the prices of 10 gram 22 Karat gold went up to Rs 176,826 from Rs 175,883, All Sindh Sarafa Jewellers Association reported.
The price of per tola and ten gram silver remained constant at Rs 2750 and Rs 2357.68 respectively.
The price of gold in the international market decreased by $5 to $1,900 from $1,905, the association reported.

16-member caretaker federal cabinet takes oath

ISLAMABAD, Aug 17 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday administered the oath of office to members of the newly appointed 16-member caretaker federal cabinet.

The swearing-in ceremony was held here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr that was attended by Interim Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, politicians and prominent figures from different sectors.

The ceremony started with the national anthem before the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran.

Among the newly appointed federal cabinet members who took oath included Senator Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti, Jalil Abbas Jilani, Shamshad Akhtar, Lt. General (Retd) Anwar Ali Hyder, Murtaza Solangi, Sami Saeed, Shahid Ashraf Tarar, Ahmad Irfan Aslam, Muhammad Ali, Gohar Ejaz, Umar Saif, Nadeem Jan, Khalil George, Aneeq Ahmed, Jamal Shah and Madad Ali Sindhi.

503 killed, 270 injured in accidents on national highways, motorways in one year

ISLAMABAD, Aug 17 (APP):As many as 503 persons were killed and 270 were injured in various accidents that took place on national highways and motorways in the jurisdiction of National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) during one year period from July 12, 2022 tto July 11, 2023.
According to official figures issued by the NHMP here Thursday, a total of  259 fatal and 128 non-fatal mishaps occurred at national highways and motorways during one the period. The NHMP has taken several steps to control accidents on motorways.
To ensure smooth flow of traffic and control accidents, the NHMP has been conducting round-the-clock patrolling and providing help to the commuters in distress through its Helpline-130, an official of NHMP said. He said the NHMP has installed LED lights at all toll plazas and it displays safety messages to sensitize the general public at toll plazas and their vehicles. Motorway Police regularly takes measures for road safety education to educate the general public through seminars, workshops, walks and briefings. Massive road safety campaigns are also launched through print, electronic and social media.
“Moreover printed pamphlets and brochures regarding road safety are distributed among road users. The NHMP has taken steps to ensure availability of two drivers in public service vehicles traveling on long-routes. The NHMP officials hold meetings with transporters/ terminals managers to educate them about road safety issues including installation of dash cameras and availability of emergency exit doors. The NHMP is deployed for speed checking during both day and night hours to curtail and reduce hazards of over-speeding. Drone cameras were being utilized to curtail violations and  now driving licenses, route permits, fitness certificates were being canceled on gross violations. The National Highways and Motorway Police has closed illegal U-turns on highways as a measure to control traffic accidents”.
