Rupee sheds Rs1.39 against US Dollar

ISLAMABAD, Aug 30 (APP): Pakistani rupee on Wednesday witnessed a Rs1.39 devaluation against the US dollar in the interbank trading and closed at Rs304.44 against the previous day’s closing of Rs303.05.

However, according to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the buying and selling rates of the dollar in the open market stood at Rs320 and Rs323 respectively.

The price of the Euro increased by Rs3.21 paisa to close at Rs 330.77 against the last day’s closing of Rs327.56, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The Japanese Yen went up by 01 paisa and stood at Rs2.07, whereas an increase of Rs2.73 was witnessed in the exchange rate of the British Pound, which traded at Rs384.83 as compared to the last closing of Rs382.10.

The exchange rates of the Emirates Dirham and the Saudi Riyal increased by 37 paisa each to close at Rs82.88 and Rs81.37 respectively.

Govt taking numerous steps to promote religious tourism: Spokesperson

ISLAMABAD, Aug 30 (APP): The government has already taken numerous measures to promote religious tourism in the country as this sector can play an important role in reviving the national economy.
According to the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) spokesperson, a total of 480 tourist destinations exist in the country, out of which 120 are religious sites.
He said that Pakistan is blessed with multiple religions such as Islam, Sikhism, Buddhism and due to its magnificent blend of cultural, religious and natural tourism opportunities.
Almost 0.9 million international tourists visit the recreational and historical sites across the country annually, he added.
The government was improving the law and order situation to attract the immense number of tourists coming from various countries as religious-based tourism is flourishing and attracting different communities, he said.
It is important to realize that religious beliefs and practices are sacrosanct to their followers. Acknowledging, respecting and accommodating these beliefs generates massive goodwill.
Pakistan is situated in a region that has been home to diverging civilizations, the world’s two major religions Buddhism and Sikhism have been dominant in this land for many centuries.

DC visits DHQ hospital, inspects facilities

KOHAT, Aug 30 (APP):Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohat Dr. Azmatullah Wazir along with Assistant Commissioner Usman Ashraf here on Wednesday visited the district headquarters hospital (DHQ) and inspected the facilities being provided to the patients.
According to the DC office, he inspected various departments of the hospital including the emergency ward, OPD, laboratory, pharmacy and other wards.
During his visit, DC said that efforts were being made to provide modern and better health facilities to the people of the area.
He issued necessary instructions to the concerned authorities to further improve the public services and sanitation situation.

SARGODHA, Aug 30 (APP):A civil defence team on Wednesday sealed three illegal diesel agencies during a
crackdown launched against illegal business of petrol and diesel in Bhakar.
According to official sources, the team under the supervision of CDO Irfan-ul-Haq checked
various fuel agencies in the city and sealed three fuel agencies over violation.
The team also got registered cases against Haqnawaz, Imam Bakhsh and Elahi Bakhsh.

Five killed in different incidents

FAISALABAD, Aug 30 (APP):Five people were killed in different incidents in and around the city during the last 24 hours.
According to police, unidentified armed men shot dead Hassan, in Chak No 35-GB, in the
limits of Satiana police station.
The police shifted the body to hospital for postmortem and registered a case against unknown accused.
A collision between two motorcycles near Gatti in Millat town police limits left a man dead
on the spot who was identified as Safdar Hussain,50, of Bhaiwala.
A 40-year-old Muhammad Hanif died in a hospital after receiving critical injuries in a collision
between a bus and a rickshaw in Haq Bahoo Chowk, Sargodha road area. The body was
handed over to the heirs.
A labourer died when a wall of a well collapsed near Chak No 632-GB, tehsil Jaranwala.
The victim was identified as Sarfraz.
Tanveer Hussain (34), resident of Chak No.39-GB died of critical injuries when
a truck hit his motorcycle.
The body was removed to THQ hospital.

KP cabinet approves grant for setting up of Forensic Lab

PESHAWAR, Aug 30 (APP):The ninth meeting of caretaker provincial cabinet on Wednesday approved supplementary grant for the establishment of Forensic Science Laboratory in Peshawar.
The cabinet meeting chaired by caretaker chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Azam Khan.
The caretaker ministers, advisers, special assistants and other high officials attended the meeting.
The agenda of the meeting included seven points.
Cabinet approved revision of PC One of Janikhel Bannu Police Station.
The caretaker cabinet approved the nomination of senior judge Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim Khan as an administrative judge for anti-terrorism courts on the recommendation of Chief Justice Peshawar High Court.
The cabinet decided to form a sub-committee under the chairmanship of senior member Board of Revenue for the Service Rules 2023 of the employees of the Provincial Ombudsman Office.
It also decided to send PC One of Women and Children Liaquat Memorial Teaching Hospital to be established in Kohat district to the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP).
The cabinet decided to send PC-I of National Program for Improvement of Water Courses in Pakistan Phase II-KPC to PDWP for a revisit.
The caretaker cabinet approved the recommendations of the committee regarding a case of teachers police public school teachers in the light of Supreme Court orders and constituted a committee under the chairmanship of caretaker minister Syed Masood Shah to ensure its implementation.
