BEIJING, Aug 30 (APP): A Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Wednesday rejected India’s protest over the release of standard map and hoped that the Indian side could stay objective and calm and refrain from over interpreting.

India on Tuesday lodged a strong protest with China over its release of standard map that laid claim over Arunachal Pradesh and the Aksai Chin as region within its borders.

“On August 23, the Ministry of Natural Resources release the 2023 edition of standard map. It is a routine practice for China to exercise sovereignty in accordance with the law,” Wang Wenbin said during his regular briefing held at the International Press Center (IPC).

“We hope relevant side can stay objective and calm and refrain from over interpreting,” he added.

According to reports, India launched a strong protest through diplomatic channels with the Chinese side on standard map released by China saying such acts will only complicate the situation.

Indian External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said India rejected these claims as they had no basis and that such steps by the Chinese side only complicated the resolution of the boundary question.

Vanuatu to host ICC Women’s T20 WC 2024 EAP qualifier

0
ISLAMABAD, Aug 30 (APP):The road to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 continues in September with the East Asia Pacific (EAP) regional qualifying event taking place in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
One team would book their spot in the Global Qualifier, where they will hope to qualify for the World Cup, said a press release.
The island nation has qualified for the event and plays host to the Cook Islands, Fiji, Indonesia, Japan, Papua New Guinea, and Samoa. Vanuatu, which earlier this year was hit by two major cyclones within 48 hours of each other, will welcome the competing teams as a way to boost tourism and support the local economy.
The event marks the return of an ICC Women’s Qualifier to the region, with the last tournament played in 2019 due to the global pandemic. Defending champions, Papua New Guinea, will be looking to retain their place on top of the region, but will face some tough opposition in the single-round robin.
The ICC was also hosting the 100% Cricket Leadership Program which focuses on athletes (leading female cricketers from the seven competing nations), commentators, and coaches.
The program seeks to uplift sports knowledge and sports-based skills within the EAP region. The program would be in part, facilitated by former Australian cricketers and media personalities, Mel Jones, Julia Price, and Cathryn Fitzpatrick, as well as representatives from Australian Cricket and New Zealand Cricket.
As part of the Leadership Program day, a 100% Cricket Women’s Health Education session would be held with the participating teams. The objective of this was to normalize and drive necessary conversation around the topic of women’s health and menstrual cycles within the cricket ecosystem.
Vanuatu Cricket Association (VCA) CEO Tim Cutler said, “Our national women’s cricket team is the country’s highest-ranked team and under the guidance of new coach Joshua Rasu we look forward to watching Selina Solman’s squad continue to represent the country with honour.
EAP Regional Development Manager Rob Gomm said, “I am particularly excited to see the 100% Cricket Leadership Program run concurrently.
We wanted to utilise having close to 100 female athletes in attendance and have designed the sessions to enhance their leadership capability and develop their off-field skills.
Our cohort of world-class facilitators is ready to go in what will be an excellent program for all involved.

AMIA calls for reforms in energy sector, privatization of DISCOs

0
PESHAWAR, Aug 30 (APP):All Pakistan Marble Industries Association (AMIA) Wednesday called for massive reforms in energy sector including the privatization of all distribution companies (DISCOs) and abolition of single buyer system across the country to promote wheeling system.
These proposals were flouted by Chairman AMIA, Asghar Khan while addressing a press conference along with office bearers from various marble industrial estates here.
He said that Pakistan had 2300 large marble industrial units and over 400 marble show-rooms and giving dierct and indirect employment to over 0.2 million people, which spoke crucial role in the economic development of the country.
He said that consecutive increase in the power tariff had rendered 40% to 50% marble units closed and if the issue was not addressed then the remaining units would stop operation.
He demanded abolition of taxes from the electricity bills to provide maximum relief to marble and granite industries to save the workers from going unemployed.
The association further demanded review of the agreements with independent power producers (IPPs) and abolition of all those agreements, which were  made in haste and instead of imported resources give priority to local resources of energy.
He has also called for focussing on the prevention of power pilferages and performance of the distribution companies. He said that the companies should ensure their timely recoveries and avoid to the burdenof their incompetency on the honest consumers.

Body cameras distributed among cops to ensure transparency in policing affairs

0

ISLAMABAD, Aug 30 (APP): Islamabad police have distributed body cameras among the dedicated personnel of the Dolphin Squad to bolster transparency and accountability within the force.

Under the direct orders of Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, the Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO), the SSP Safe City initiated the distribution of these body cameras, coupled with comprehensive training on their proper usage.

The primary objective behind this initiative is to ensure the secure and verifiable recording of interactions between police officials and the public.

By doing so, the Islamabad Capital Police aims to foster a safer environment, deter criminal activities, and keep a vigilant eye on any suspicious individuals or events.

During the training session, Dolphin Squad members were instructed to consistently wear and operate these body cameras while on duty. This practice guarantees that all interactions with the public are securely recorded, serving as a deterrent against unlawful activities.

Furthermore, officials were unequivocally directed to refrain from conducting vehicle searches without the explicit authorization of senior officers.

They were also reminded to uphold courteous and respectful behaviour when interacting with the public, maintaining the highest standards of professionalism.

The Islamabad Capital Police remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of the citizens it serves. Islamabad police have appealed to all citizens for cooperation in a collective mission to uphold peace and security. It has been also asked to report any suspicious activities promptly to your nearest police station or dial the “Pucar-15” helpline.
